There is a great quote by Suzy Kassem, she says, " Doubt Kills More Dreams Than Failure Ever Will". It does seem to be accurate in our field too, where we go through hell lot of exams before we start earning. Many of us do feel the anxieties related to the exams. And these exams determine many things including our future. The anxieties related to exams do have a significant impact on our mental health creating chaos in day to day life. Many of us do feel the enormous pressure before Exams specially before the viva. Some of us couldn't bear the pressure & end up in severe negative consequences like medical suicide. When we clear these competitive exams, we do get into the medical residency, but the story doesn't end here. It's not the happy ending, actually it's the real beginning of our life in Medicine. Heavy workload does help a lot in creating the work performance anxiety. Stress in the residency does seem to be a tradition, passing from generation to generation. These alarming situation demand for a major change in the work culture during medical residency.  This podcast is purely dedicated to all the students like me who are preparing for any competitive exam, also to those who are in their Medical Residency. Both are in different battlefields fighting for their existence.  Do listen to our special guest Dr Divya Devulapally (Consultant Psychiatrist) who shares her tips on reducing the exam stress & work performance anxiety in this episode. I hope I'll be able to add a perspective through this & this podcast would be helpful to those in need.  Thank You All The Best!  Keep Calm: It's Just An Exam! Keep Listening The Khoj Podcast. We all witnessed many cases related to suicide in the news lately. Every such news has put me in the act of introspection. I stayed in my house 24*7 and it did take a toll on my mental health. The Pandemic and lockdown has put us in a vulnerable position. It surely has triggered the anxiety for many of us. I am no different. In the midst of these thoughts I realised the importance of mental health. When I hear the news of a medical student commiting suicide, I ask to myself, why we become so resistant at a point of time that we couldn't share our stress with anyone? Then my subtle mind answers to this , may be the stress overtakes all the positive feelings which act as a healer in us or may be it's the social rule of strength. What is it ? The social rule of strength teaches us to behave strong in front of the others everytime. We live in a society where we label people into weak and strong the moment we meet them. People call a person weak who is on medication for depression/ anxiety. It's a stigma in the Indian Society. This pandemic time has shown us a way to take care of our mental health. We realised the Power of Sharing. In this part of the episode  Dr Srushti Sahukar has guided us with her knowledge about the existing stigma in society. We have discussed the difficulties a medical student has to face in terms of the mental health.

Episode#4 : Open Yourself to The World of Possibilities  In the field of Medicine, we all know the importance of reading books. We all feel the pressure to acquire maximum knowledge & score good marks in exams. But dont you think  learning life skills, developing new hobbies and  improving our abilities to deal with life are some other things that also need our attention. It is often perceived that you can be a good doctor if you have a great knowledge of your field. Agreed! But don't you think, learning leadership skills, making new contacts, learning how to deal with patients & their attenders, developing the stress buster hobbies & improving our extra/ co- curricular abilities are some very very important  areas where a good doctor should strive excel at. Because, after passing out, a doctor has to lead a team, he has to bring positivity around them and their patients, he has to have a peace of mind in order to function properly. I think this becomes more important in a long run and there these skills help. Help in building a network, help in creating a positive ambience around them. This episode revolves around this topic.   In this episode, I have discussed all these topics with our guest Dr Anmol Patted. She will be sharing her journey & guiding us to a world that is full of possibilities.   Listen to her and I hope you will find your way through this podcast ❣️ Do listen to the episode. Find your way every single day ❣️
In this part of the episode, Dr Keshav has shared his Medicine Residency experiences.  I got to know behind the scenes from him. From managing 24-48 hours longs duties to saving lives in time, from treating diseases to treating the emotions of patients as well as the attenders, residents hustle. After treating many patients we feel like winners but,in a sense, we also lose many battles in our lives. The heavy workload of a Resident can sometimes be compelling enough to take unwanted decisions (suicide). Those who think we are printing money & building empires, should definitely listen to a Resident Doctor. While saving lives of others we do sacrifice our personal, emotional & social lives. Knowledge of a great doctor is built upon the countless hours  that one has dedicated to their patients. Listen to this episode to know more about the life of a Medicine Resident. I sincerely apologise for the background noise and my grammatical mistakes. I'm working on that. All sorts of feedback are welcomed.
