#Episode 5 Depression/Anxiety: New Reality of Medical Students (Part-1)
Description
We all witnessed many cases related to suicide in the news lately. Every such news has put me in the act of introspection. I stayed in my house 24*7 and it did take a toll on my mental health. The Pandemic and lockdown has put us in a vulnerable position. It surely has triggered the anxiety for many of us. I am no different. In the midst of these thoughts I realised the importance of mental health. When I hear the news of a medical student commiting suicide, I ask to myself, why we become so resistant at a point of time that we couldn't share our stress with anyone? Then my subtle mind answers to this , may be the stress overtakes all the positive feelings which act as a healer in us or may be it's the social rule of strength. What is it ?
The social rule of strength teaches us to behave strong in front of the others everytime. We live in a society where we label people into weak and strong the moment we meet them. People call a person weak who is on medication for depression/ anxiety. It's a stigma in the Indian Society. This pandemic time has shown us a way to take care of our mental health. We realised the Power of Sharing.
In this part of the episode Dr Srushti Sahukar has guided us with her knowledge about the existing stigma in society. We have discussed the difficulties a medical student has to face in terms of the mental health.
