Huge thank you to our Veterans today, and every day. Of all the hard things I have done over the years, your service trumps them all. This quick clip is an article I originally wrote for my blog, then later was published in the local newspaper. Thank You.
Arlo sits down with great friend Todd Becraft. A suicide survivor, Todd's mission in life is to help raise awareness for mental health and suicide prevention. In this episode, they talk memories, marathons, and about Todd's upcoming bike across America in the summer of 2024. His ride across America is going to require an enormous amount of planning, financial support, and coordination for speaking engagements in communities across the US during and after his adventure. Let's show this man some support! Learn more about this amazing man and his huge upcoming adventure at www.ridetotomorrow.com
Today Jeff Moore turns the tables on Arlo Gagestein, interviewing HIM rather than vice versa. Listen in as they dicuss training, shifting priorities, and a huge change for Arlo and Competitive Edge Fitness happening at the end of the month. Life changes can definitely be uncomfortable, so naturally we needed to have Arlo as a guest on his own show!
Most people sign up for a 5k their first race - John signed up for an Ironman Triathlon. With a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and a 26.2 mile run several days ahead of him, things started to go wrong. Race day, thing went even worse. Bad enough that on the drive home, John ended up in the emergency room with a tube in his chest. Crazy, right? What if I tell you he considers it one of the best days of his life? Don't miss this episode where we sit down with John to hear about his motivation and his incredible story!
In keeping with a relatively young, yet wildly successful Jiu-Jitsu career, Amy Campo has established herself as one of the best black belts in the world. Join Arlo and Amy as they discuss all things Jiu-Jitsu, training with Eduardo Mori, competition mindset, and what makes her such a dominant grappler. Enjoy!
In this episode, Arlo catches up with current All-Time World Record holder in the squat, Nathan "Tractor" Baptist. Conversation touches on childhood influences, football, powerlifting, world records, Tractor's BBQ, and Hope Kids the charity that Tractor supports. Tractor is a big man with a big heart, and the only man on the planet who has been under the bar with 1,311 pounds! This is a fantastic conversation with one of our favorite people. In this episode, Arlo meets with friend, Physical Therapist and lifelong competitive athlete, Dusty Campbell. If you like beach volleyball, deep conversations and 80-mile rollerblade sessions in the dark, this one's for you. It was a joy getting to know Dusty on a deeper level and it's clear that we will definitley have to have him on the podcast again! If you haven't heard about Dusty's huge fundraiser for Wounded Warrior Project last year...you NEED to listen! His wild adventure dangerously flirts the line between crazy and impossible. In this episode, I get in a post-training chat with David Castillo. We look back at his career as a professional MMA fighter, discuss lessons learned through fighting, his new-found love of Jiu-Jitsu, parenting done right, life on a farm, and juggling FOUR businesses! We also reminisce about pulling a motorhome for 10 miles across the Bonneville Salt Flats together last fall to raise money for Operation Underground Railroad. In this episode, Arlo sits down with dear friend, mother, massage therapist, former Division 1 All American, and all around rockstar athlete, Sariah Long. We follow her running journey, from constant middle-of-the-night runs growing up in California, to high school, to her collegiate career, to the Olympic Trials, to marathon course records, to her new-found love of hunting. Sariah is one of our alltime favorite people and her competitive mindset is the most intense we've ever known. *After recording, Arlo and Sariah instantly regretted the things over their 12 year friendship that they forgot to talk about! So, clearly, we will need to do a "Sariah Long - Revisited" episode in the future. It will be wildly amusing, so don't miss it!
Podcast host and strength coach, Arlo Gagestein, sits down with Jiu-Jitsu black belt and owner of Alpha Counseling and Treatment, Jeff "The Ginja Nina" Moore to discuss the appeal and benefits of doing difficult things. Thanks to Jeff for joining Arlo at 4am for the final 4 snowy miles of his 24-hour, 30-mile project marathon, then immediately recording the 1st episode of Dabbling in Discomfort. Jeff's insight both as a therapist and a fellow seeker of uncomfortable experiences, make him the perfect guest for this show! Listen as these long-time friends and training partners discuss the project marathon, high elevation jiu-jitsu tournaments, mental games, and the benefits of venturing outside your comfort zone.
