Description
By placing humanity at the center of all design, the Human School seeks to share an evolving story of learning and its impact on the world. We live and use a four point framework –– The Human School Compass (Objector, Inventor, Curator, and Storyteller) –– to provide a new lens to explore and uncover the mindshifts necessary to realize a fully human-centered, transformed learning experience where all are seen, heard, and valued. The Human School: Placing humanity at the center.

You’re a Storyteller when you reflect on what you learned being an Objector, an Inventor, and a Curator, and you share that story with the world. When storytellers share, they are uncovering and exposing what happened and this new story is used as an opportunity to learn, to help others learn, and to inform future iterations, inventions, and curations. You’re a Curator when you design and implement a plan to gather evidence reflecting the effectiveness of your solutions. Curators value feedback and have a need to understand the impact of their work. They have a unique insider perspective and leverage this perspective as they gather and prioritize different types of evidence.

You’re an Inventor when you design solutions that bring about change. Inventors are designers and begin the invention process with the user, the person––the human––in mind. They prioritize people before content. They also embrace the longview and invent in collaboration with others.

You're an Objector when you identify those things you want to change, and you commit to taking action upon them. Objectors feel a restlessness; their beliefs and values are often at odds with the current compliance-driven systems. Objectors are curious, and they influence others to join in the cause for change.

Mindsets are what we think in our heads. They’re invisible and can often feel vague.
We can grow and shift our mindsets by making them explicit and exploring new possibilities.
When we shift our mindsets…we can change just about anything…including the current dehumanizing system of schooling.
