Jan shares her experience of adoption with Sue Hughes, assessment services & permanency director. Jan was the first child Family Futures placed through iAdopt. She was matched with her adoptive mum at six years old after a previous adoption breakdown. Sue has been part of the team supporting Jan and her mum for the last 14 years. Jan talks about her mixed feelings of loss and confusion, moving from birth family, to foster family, to adopted family, and how integral patience and support was from her mum, and for her mum. Adoption UK’s helpline is specifically for adoptees, adopters, kinship carers and their support network. You can call them Monday to Friday, 10am to 2.30pm on 0300 666 0006. Our new series Pondering Pods, aims to provide insightful and engaging discussions on topics relating to child development, attachment, and trauma - offering greater understanding for professionals and parents. In this episode our podcast producer, Charlotte Mumford, sits down with Senior Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist, Karlien Smith-Claassens,  to talk about NPP and what it means in theory and in context.  Neuro Physiological Psychotherapy (NPP) is a therapeutic model and approach developed by Family Futures that focuses on healing the neurological, physiological and psychological harm to a child’s development caused by neglect and abusive parenting in infancy.
