Description
Welcome to the All of You Podcast with Dave and Shiv Martinell! A few years and one too many fights ago, our relationship led us on personal journeys toward self awareness, healing, and personal growth. We started to see that the more we healed, the better we started showing up not just in our relationship, but in the workplace, in our friendships, with our daughters, and most importantly for ourselves.
Our hope is that in sharing our own raw and vulnerable truths, others will be inspired, feel seen, and will want to pursue growth and healing in their own lives. We’re driven by the belief that as each person heals, the collective heals and that’s how we make this world a more beautiful and loving place.

In this episode, we explore why maintaining a positive view of your partner is one of the most protective forces in a relationship and how easy it is to lose.
We talk about the subtle ways resentment, unspoken expectations, triggers, and everyday stress can slowly shift the lens you see your partner through, and what it actually takes to find your way back to seeing each other with softness, curiosity, and goodwill.

Why do the relationships that once felt electric start to feel exhausting as you grow? This conversation was sparked by watching Wuthering Heights and realizing just how differently we define love, chemistry, and passion now compared to earlier versions of ourselves.
In this episode, we talk about why intensity can stop feeling like chemistry, how peace starts to feel way more appealing, and what it looks like to outgrow old relationship patterns without shaming who you used to be. A real, honest convo about how your love life evolves as you do.

Vulnerability sounds simple, but in real life it’s layered, tender, and requires more than just one person being willing to open up. In this episode, we explore what actually creates the conditions for people to feel safe enough to be seen and why trust is something that’s built in small, quiet moments, not forced breakthroughs.
We talk about the ways defensiveness, ego, and lack of presence can get in the way, and what it really looks like to hold space for someone you love. A grounded, honest conversation about the courage it takes to soften and the safety that makes connection possible.

This episode is a rapid-fire Q&A sharing an honest snapshot of where we’re at right now, both individually and in our relationship. We talk about what’s been activating us, patterns we’re noticing, beliefs we’re outgrowing, and what feels tender, easier, or still requires intention in this season.
We also keep it light with some fun questions: the habits we’re low-key judging, things we definitely overthought, simple joys bringing unexpected happiness, and yes…even ways that we annoy each other. It’s not about having it all figured out, just being honest about what feels true right now.

Our limiting beliefs and insecurities don’t come out of nowhere—they’re learned, often in moments where we were trying to protect ourselves.
In this episode, Dave and Shiv explore how these patterns form and why they can feel so hard to break. Dave shares how his beliefs around working out kept him from going to the gym for years, while Shiv opens up about how past trauma led her to suppress her feelings and avoid vulnerability.
We talk about how these thoughts once helped us feel safe, but can quietly limit our relationships, growth, and self-trust as adults. This conversation is about understanding your patterns with compassion—and learning how to move beyond them without shame.

In this episode, Dave and Shiv share why making peace with your past is foundational to healing, emotional safety, and healthy relationships. They explore how unresolved experiences quietly shape the way we show up, love, and protect ourselves. Shiv vulnerably shares some of the hardest parts of her own past to make peace with, and what that process has actually looked like in real life. This conversation is an invitation to soften toward your story, release what no longer needs to define you, and begin relating from a place that feels more grounded, honest, and free.

This episode explores what people usually mean when they say a relationship feels toxic and how to tell when something is no longer just difficult, but unhealthy. The conversation looks at the difference between conflict that leads to repair and patterns that repeat without real change.
It also touches on what happens when emotional safety is missing, including walking on eggshells, editing yourself, and slowly disconnecting from your own needs. An honest, grounded conversation meant to bring clarity and language to experiences that can be hard to name.

Holding space is one of the most powerful and misunderstood relationship skills. In this episode, Shiv and Dave break down what emotional validation really is, why it’s what every partner wants when they are upset, and what makes it so hard to offer in the moment.
They explore the blocks to holding space, from personalizing and ego stories to emotional immaturity and share real examples from their own relationship around home, family, and navigating hard conversations without defensiveness. You’ll also learn practical tools for doing this well, like checking for capacity, getting clear on your own feelings first, and learning how to ask to be seen instead of fixed.
If you want deeper connection, more emotional safety, and fewer reactive cycles in your relationship, this episode is for you.

Family estrangement is one of the most painful and complex relationship experiences a person can walk through, and this episode approaches it with honesty, compassion, and deep care.
Dave shares his personal journey with family estrangement, what it has cost him, what it has taught him, and how he’s been able to create healthier relationships on the other side. Shiv and Dave explore estrangement from the perspectives of the parent, adult child, and sibling, and the emotional dynamics that often shape these ruptures.
The conversation unpacks why someone may choose distance, the grief that follows for everyone involved, and the critical importance of validating the hurt of the person who comes to you — because that validation can be the difference between preserving a relationship or losing it.
A grounded, tender episode about boundaries, repair, and the courage it takes to do family differently.

The New Year tends to arrive with a lot of pressure — to change faster, do more, fix everything, and somehow become a brand-new version of yourself overnight. In this episode, we slow the whole thing down and offer a different perspective on what this season is actually for.
We talk about why this time of year is better suited for rest, reflection, and intention than rigid goal-setting, and how many of the resolutions we’re taught to make are rooted in shame, comparison, and fear of being behind. When goals are chosen from self-criticism instead of self-connection, motivation becomes exhausting, failure feels personal, and trust in yourself slowly erodes.
Instead, we explore a more sustainable way of approaching growth — one that honors who you’ve been, gets honest about who you’re becoming, and allows your goals to come from alignment rather than pressure. If you’ve ever felt discouraged by resolutions, stuck in the same cycle year after year, or unsure what you even want next, this conversation will feel like a deep exhale.

The holidays are often framed as the happiest time of the year… but for many, they can also be the hardest. In this episode, Dave and Shiv talk honestly about why the holiday season can feel so heavy, from unmet expectations and family dynamics to grief, loneliness, and the invisible mental load—especially for women. Shiv shares why she used to dread the holidays, and together they explore what it’s like to navigate this season when you’re already on emotional thin ice. A real, compassionate conversation for anyone trying to hold space for what this time of year actually brings.

We talk a lot about the power of gratitude—but if it’s so good for us, why don’t we live there all the time? In this episode, we explore the blocks to gratitude and what actually gets in the way of feeling it, even when there’s so much to appreciate.
Using a real moment from the day after Disneyland, we unpack how easy it is to slip into shame and self-criticism—and how gratitude isn’t about bypassing the hard, but staying grounded in reality. We talk about how gratitude allows space for both the good and the hard to exist at the same time. Because when gratitude is embodied—not forced—it changes your energy, your perspective, and the way you show up in the world.

In this conversation, we explore one of the most surprising truths about personal development: the work you do for your relationship is the same work that transforms every part of your life. Relationships act like a mirror—showing you the patterns, wounds, and habits that quietly shape how you communicate, lead, set boundaries, and move through the world.
When you choose to grow inside your partnership, that growth follows you everywhere. Your career, your confidence, your spiritual life, your friendships… all of it gets upgraded when you start doing the inner work that creates safety, honesty, and emotional maturity at home.
In this episode, we talk about how healing relational patterns naturally spills into your work life, why breakthroughs in communication become breakthroughs in leadership and self-trust, and how tending to your inner world creates ripple effects you never expected.
If you’ve ever wondered why the hardest moments in your relationship also end up being the biggest catalysts for your evolution, this is the episode for you.

In this episode, we unpack the complicated relationship between trauma and growth—and why going through something hard isn’t what makes you stronger. We talk about the difference between experiencing trauma and actually healing from it, and Shiv opens up about how the saying “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” she was told in the wake of extreme loss did more harm than good.
We also dig into the way our upbringing shapes us, especially the belief that harshness builds resilience. (Spoiler: yelling doesn’t make kids stronger—it creates insecure attachment.) By looking at our childhood patterns with honesty and compassion, we can understand ourselves more clearly and choose a healthier path forward. It’s a tender, grounding conversation about growth without glorifying the pain that came before it.

In this episode, we’re getting honest about a pattern we didn’t expect to find in our own relationship: using personal growth tools in ways they were never meant to be used. We talk about how easy it is, once you’ve done a lot of healing and communication work, to slip into correcting, analyzing, or psychoanalyzing your partner — all under the guise of “using the tools.”
If you’ve ever caught yourself turning relationship tools as a weapon, this conversation will feel like a deep exhale.

This week we’re diving into the uncomfortable truth that not everyone is going to like you — and why that’s actually okay. We talk through our own experiences with rejection, wanting to be misunderstood, and the pressure to manage how people see you. It’s an honest, unstructured conversation about what it looks like to release that weight and stay grounded in who you are.
If you’ve ever felt the urge to shrink, shape-shift, or people-please your way into being liked, this one’s for you.

Ever feel totally fine… until your partner seems a little off? And suddenly you’re questioning yourself, replaying conversations, or wondering if you did something wrong? That’s outsourcing your self-worth — and most people don’t even realize they’re doing it.
In this episode, we break down why your partner’s mood or behavior can feel like it determines your value, how this pattern quietly shows up in relationships, and what it actually takes to stop letting someone else’s emotions dictate how you feel about yourself.

Ever notice how when one part of your life feels off, everything else starts to feel a little off too? In this episode, we explore how all areas of your health: mental, physical, emotional, relational, spiritual, and even financial are deeply connected.
We talk about why you can’t truly feel well if you’re neglecting one area, how imbalance shows up in subtle ways, and what it actually looks like to bring yourself back into alignment. You’ll walk away with a deeper understanding of how caring for one area of your life creates a ripple effect of healing and wholeness in the others.

We think we want “I’m sorry,” but what we’re really craving is to be seen in our pain. In this episode, we share a story from one of our own past fights and talk about why apologies sometimes don’t land the way we hope they will. Because not all of the pain is from the moment—it’s often old, living in our bodies and showing up when we least expect it. We’ll unpack what it really means to feel seen, and how to repair in a way that brings you closer instead of getting stuck in the same loop.
This one’s for anyone who’s ever thought, “Why doesn’t their apology feel like enough?”

Have you ever accused someone of something, only to realize later that it was actually about you? In this episode, we’re diving deep into projection, which is the unconscious defense mechanism that makes us see our own wounds, insecurities, and traits in others.
We talk about why projection is so sneaky, how it keeps both people stuck, and what to do when you’re either the one projecting or the one being projected onto. You’ll hear real examples of how projection shows up in relationships (including ours) from jealousy and criticism to perfectionism and even social media comparison and how to recognize when it’s happening.
If you’re ready to stop seeing your pain in someone else and start meeting it within yourself, this episode will help you take that first step.
