Ep. 30 - Camp, Seasons, & The Loss of a friend Warm up - Camp • We all have places in our lives we go back to at different checkpoints of our lives. • We need to have spaces like that we can evaluate our progress and be honest with our ups or downs emotionally. • Find your own “camp” or check in place you can be honest with yourself. Workout - Seasons • Life is seasonal so just be you, and be ok to adjust your energy accordingly. • Don’t search for the past you, because the current you is amazing, even if you are a mess, embrace it. • Trust that you’re right where you need to be, but don’t be afraid to make a change too. Cool Down - Losing a friend • Losing a friend is hard, and as a dad I feel this loss deeply. • Talk about your feelings, worries, and things like this… don’t bottle it up.
NO Goal BUT Full of VisionEpisode 29 (when I recorded it I thought it was 30 hahaha dad fail but so funny... I need more sleep lol) is full of no outline and just talking!Dads need more community, conversations, and connections. I recorded this episode with the kids noise in the background, and that is how some of these episodes should feel. It is the Just Call Dad Podcast for a reason, we are dads who need to figure out how to manage the daily while managing the mess in our minds. The goal of this episode is simple, to show you that we do not always have to have some big goal in life, and this is tough because I am a goal setter. Driven by success, and honestly addicted to winning or competing at things in life. This can either be incredible, or awful, it really comes down to my vision. Vision is different than goals or having a goal. To have vision means you can see the end and the now. You can understand some of the past, and not seek to understand everything. It is like a hidden superpower we all have inside of us, ready, waiting for us to just let go and trust ourselves fully. We need to have media that can replace all the crap out there right now too. So, maybe if we fill up with good stuff, we can find that we trust or believe in ourselvves more each day as dads.I am really prone to dumb rabbit holes of time sucking videos, watching too much "fast food" social media or just wasting the few free moments I get because I am just so tired. My brain needs a break. Maybe the JCD podcast can fill a gap in your consumption time with some positive energy, I know I need that too. Thanks for tuning in today! If you or someone you know is a dad who would like this podcast, give us a follow and review here so we can keep creating positive content!

JCD 26: Just Call Dad Podcast Warm Up:What does it mean for you to be one on purpose? Do you believe that one on purpose action can change your day?My book: One On PurposeWorkout:No one can place value on things in your life... the value that you choose is the value that you take with you. So, set your own expectations on what you value so someone else does not tell you what you are worth. Also, we have so many things that compete for our attention as humans (sports too) so I wrote my own battle down in a book.My book on competing: Designed To Compete Cool Down:The emotional value that I found from writing books that were failures ended with me making something that was very special and unique. I want to help every kid, dad, and human have a book (or series to read) that can change the narrative on competing in life. We can flip the script one book at a time, taking identity off of outcome, and place that on the process. Dad Team 2.0 - When running by yourself is not worth it anymore...Embracing the Relay of Life: A Journey Through Fatherhood and PodcastingIntroduction: Welcome to the Just Call Dad podcast where host Sean Patrick opens up about the challenges and triumphs of fatherhood and the creative process. In a candid discussion, he reflects on the struggles of self-doubt, the fear of judgment, and the importance of community in navigating life’s hurdles.Main Content: The Struggle with Self-Doubt Sean begins by sharing the raw emotions that led him to consider quitting the podcast. "I almost quit this podcast," he admits, highlighting the unseen hard work that often goes into passionate projects. Many can relate to the feeling of inadequacy when confronted with criticism or even perceived judgment. Sean notes, "nobody really wants to listen to what I have to say," a sentiment that resonates with many dads who might feel isolated in their experiences.**The Dichotomy of Fear** One of the key themes in Sean’s reflection is the dual fear of failure and success. He expresses concern about creating something that no one listens to, as well as the pressure that comes with producing popular content. This fear is common among creators who seek validation while grappling with the potential for disappointment. Sean says, "If I create something good, it's terrifying. If I create something bad, it's terrifying." This paradox illustrates the emotional rollercoaster that often accompanies creative endeavors. The Analogy of Race DaySean introduces the analogy of race day to describe the pressures of life and fatherhood. He recalls his experiences in track and field, noting that he thrived in relay races due to the support of his teammates. "I felt this sense of connection," he explains, emphasizing the importance of community in achieving success. Dads, like athletes, can benefit from a supportive network to share burdens and celebrate victories together. The Importance of Connection and Accountability The idea of approaching life as a relay race rather than an individual competition is a transformative perspective. Sean encourages fathers to seek connections with one another, to hand off struggles, and to lean on each other for accountability. "Dad life isn't meant to be lived alone," he asserts, reminding listeners that collaboration can alleviate the weight of expectations.Finding Your IdentityAs Sean navigates his journey, he reflects on the need for self-discovery amidst the chaos of responsibilities. He admits, "I had no idea. I had never met myself." This realization is pivotal for many fathers who juggle multiple roles and may lose sight of their individual identities. Understanding one’s own motivations and desires is crucial in fostering resilience.ConclusionIn this episode, Sean Patrick courageously shares his struggles with self-doubt and the importance of community and connectivity in the journey of fatherhood and creativity. The key takeaway? Don’t quit when faced with challenges; instead, restructure your approach and surround yourself with a supportive relay team. Life’s race is not meant to be run alone, and by working together, we can strive towards our best selves.

Embracing the Present: How Dads Can Be Present and Accounted ForIntroduction: In today’s fast-paced world, many dads find themselves caught between the demands of work, family, and personal aspirations. In a recent episode of the Just Call Dad podcast, Coach Sean Patrick emphasizes the importance of being present and accounted for in our children's lives. He shares valuable insights and practical tips for fathers looking to improve their connection with their families while navigating daily challenges.Main Content:1. Understanding the Concept of Being PresentCoach Sean Patrick opens the episode by discussing the necessity of being genuinely present for our families. He reminds listeners that material possessions and accolades pale in comparison to the value of quality time spent with loved ones. As he puts it, "my present to my family... is far more significant than any gift I can buy."2. The Importance of ConnectionIn a world where social media often portrays a filtered version of reality, Sean highlights the significance of authentic connections. He recounts a personal experience of reaching out to friends and feeling disappointed when they didn’t reciprocate. This reflects a common struggle among dads who often invest in friendships that may not be as fulfilling. Sean encourages fathers to focus on those who do connect and to appreciate those relationships more deeply.3. The Focus 10 and Focus 5 TechniquesTo help dads become more present, Sean introduces two techniques: the Focus 10 and Focus 5. The Focus 10 involves dedicating ten uninterrupted minutes to engage in an activity with your child, such as coloring or building with Legos. The Focus 5, on the other hand, encourages quick, active moments like playing tag or having a dance party. These short bursts of focused time can lead to deeper connections and a more engaged parenting experience.4. Accountability Among DadsSean emphasizes the importance of accountability among fathers. He suggests creating a list of four to five dad friends to check in with regularly. By sharing parenting experiences and challenges, dads can support each other in their journeys. This camaraderie can provide motivation and inspiration, reminding each other of the importance of being present for their families.5. Overcoming the Pressure to Be PerfectAs the holiday season approaches, Sean addresses the pressure many dads feel to be perfect. He encourages listeners to let go of unrealistic expectations and focus instead on simply being present. He reassures that today can still be their best day, regardless of past challenges. Conclusion: In this enlightening episode, Coach Sean Patrick reminds fathers of the profound impact they can have on their families by simply being present. By implementing techniques like the Focus 10 and Focus 5, and fostering connections with fellow dads, they can enhance their roles as parents. The key takeaway is that being present is more important than striving for perfection. Dads can make a difference by embracing the moments they have now.Tags: #JustCallDad #Parenting #DadLife #BeingPresent #Fatherhood #Focus10 #Focus5 #DadSupport #QualityTime #MentalWellbeing
