This was recorded earlier in the year but the message still holds true. I was able to connect with my right hand, Apollos Hall, and we rapped about how important the right community is for personal and spiritual growth. Apollos is someone I consider part of my wise counsel so me keeping this in the archive was disrespectful. :) hope y'all enjoy. In this conversation, we connect on the following: - Why it is so important to find your community - Why authentic and healthy are two different approaches when searching for community. - How a community isn't just having "yes" people around you? - How a community that promotes growth is a community that challenges you? - How stress is actually a tool - What word can you use to describe your community? - - - - - - - Let's build this community together, click here: Join the community - - - - - - - For More Dope Podcasts: Check out our projects on www.manna365.co - - - - - - - Follow the socials: IG: @beyondtheresume.pod Tik Tok: @beyondtheresume.pod YouTube: @beyondtheresume.pod
In this episode, I am asking the question "Who are you?" If anyone were to ask you that same question, would you know how to answer? I read a CNN article that stated suicide deaths reached a record high in the US in 2022. And earlier this year, the Surgeon General released a report stating Loneliness and Isolation was the new epidemic. I can't help but assume these two are closely related. In fact, I believe one leads to the other. But instead of discussing the symptoms, we need to dive deeper into the root cause... lack of self-discovery, absence of personal growth, lost identity, and misplaced identity. So I submit to you again, if anyone were to ask you the question "Who are you?", how would you answer? - - - - - - - For More Dope Podcasts: Check out our projects on www.manna365.co - - - - - - - Follow the socials: IG: @beyondtheresume.pod Tik Tok: @beyondtheresume.pod YouTube: @beyondtheresume - - - - - - - Chapters 00:00 Intro 00:40 Subscribe, Rate, & Share 02:20 Who are you? 03:40 Where do you put your joy? 05:55 Joshua & the Israelites 07:30 Your job isn't identity
Often, I find myself in conversations with people who have these game-changing ideas but feel as though they don’t have the necessary resources to turn those ideas into something tangible. If this sounds familiar, this 5-minute podcast episode is for you. I submit to you, even if it doesn’t appear so, you already possess all the necessary resources to convert these ideas from thoughts to something real. In this episode, I focus on 3 key things anyone can leverage to build that new business. • Focusing on what you have right in front of you. • Leveraging your 9-5 for your next move • Finding your next business partner - - - - - - - For More Dope Podcasts: Check out our projects on www.manna365.co - - - - - - - Follow the socials: IG: @beyondtheresume.pod Tik Tok: @beyondtheresume.pod YouTube: @beyondtheresume
Okay - that is drastic but some of us need an intentional change. As technology advances and accessibility increases, we are more subject to distractions than ever before. This episode is specifically for those who have a desire to better understand God's purpose for their life, who need help focusing on their dreams and/or goals, or who are looking for a drastic change but aren't sure how to do that. In this episode, I discuss the "law of use" as described in Matthew 25. This passage is titled the "Parable of Talents" and there are 2 key points from this message delivered by Jesus. You learn that we all have gifts and there is an expectation for us to use them. You also learn that God increases your responsibility when you properly manage what you currently have. I am a firm believer that everyone has gifts but if you aren't sure you do, then you are blinded by distractions. Here is my call to action: If need help removing distractions and want to understand how to discover your gifts, I submit the following Remove distractions like Netflix, Hulu, Social Media, and other streaming services that pull your attention. You don't have to cancel, but maybe pause the services for 3 weeks. Change your immediate environment - Join conversations with people who are purpose-driven. Pray and meditate on God's word. For awareness, Romans 12 is a good start. Paul describes the "New Life in Christ' and through the chapter he mentioned the gifts that come from the holy spirit. In this episode, I talk about how I use the power and purpose of the holy spirit to understand my direction. At age 36, I realize a lot of my 20s were my "figuring out" years. Though life is a constant journey, in this decade I am hyper-focused on understanding God's calling over my life. I now understand the urgency of purpose. If you are in a position where you are constantly thinking about what's next, or you are asking questions about discovering your purpose, or you are asking questions about identifying your gifts - this episode is for you. In this episode, I speak to my time in the wilderness where I was asking God these very same questions. I've since realized, that being in the wilderness journey is God's design and it is very intentional. This is a moment when God isolates you because he wants to prepare you for the next level. There are three things that are always consistent during this phase - he will purge you from things that hinder your growth, he isolates you because he needs to remove distractions, and he will test you to make sure you keep his commandments as he continues enlarging your territory. What's going on good people? In this episode, I dig deeper into the beginning thoughts of Beyond the Resume. Internally it has gone through many iterations but the problem I want to same remains the same. I built Beyond the Resume with me and other professional millennials in mind. I go back to 2017 when I started writing this book called The Millennial Memoir. No worries if you haven't heard of it - because it never surfaced. It was my attempt to articulate what I know now as a quarter-life crisis. By the grace of God, at age 26/27, by most standards, I accomplished a lot. On paper, everything looked good, yet I was still unsatisfied. From there, I started this quest to find my task. Along the way, I had some wins, but I also took some losses. Despite this, it all leads me here. This is what I call the compound effect. - - - - - Join the community through the links below. - - - - - For More Dope Podcasts: Check out our projects on www.manna365.co . What's going on good people? I am excited to be back in the podcast world. While away, I had a lot of time to reflect and focus on where I want to spend my time and energy. The longer I stayed away from this platform, my desire to return grew - so here we are! In my return episode, I share how my travels to Africa and Netherlands completely shaped my path forward. Africa and Netherlands were equally impactful; however, different. While in the Netherlands, time slowed down. It was almost as if I was detoxing from the grind and hustle of US culture. Africa is inexplainable; however, I will try my hardest. Africa showed me a deeper meaning of gratitude. While in Africa, I learned there are layers to thankfulness like when Paul summarizes in Philippians 4 do not worry about anything but in prayer give thanks. Being in Africa was a factory reset for me. - - - - Join the community through the link below. - - - - - For More Dope Podcasts: Check out our projects on www.manna365.co Check out the blog: www.manna365.co/blog YOU CAN ALSO FOLLOW THE SOCIALS: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/beyondtheresume.pod Tik Tok: https://www.tiktok.com/@beyondtheresume.pod?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=pc YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@beyondtheresume THANKS IN ADVANCE. In this episode, we dive into the peace that comes from trusting God with our future. What if we truly believed that God owns tomorrow? Would we chase our dreams with boldness instead of fear? I share reflections on why we shouldn't compartmentalize our faith and how scripture challenges the anxiety we often feel about the unknown. With headlines full of uncertainty and discouragement, it’s easy to worry. But today has enough struggles of its own. Let’s lean on God, stay obedient to our assignments, and release the results to Him. (Matthew 6:25)- - - - -Who is Patrick Croffie? In today's episode, I want to remind you that you possess everything you need to move into the next season but there are things we must shed. We must shed fear. We need to understand the perfect will of God is already in works and there is nothing we need more. And lastly, we need to know we do not need permission to move forward. --- One of my favorite coaching moments in the Bible is between God and Moses. In Exodus chapter 14: 15, Moses for a split second forgot about all the power God equipped him with. In this scene, Moses is stuck between the Egyptians who are looking to harm the people of Israel, and the Red Sea. As the Egyptians are approaching, Moses turns to the sky and calls on God. But in this moment God didn’t respond with "my faithful servant" or "my most devoted", he responded with a question and command " Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on." ---- Like Moses, I believe God is telling many of us to Just Move! There is a season for fasting and praying, and there is a season for action. I believe many of us are in the season for action but are waiting for permission. I submit to you that this next season is Green Light Season. Just move until God says otherwise. ---- Scriptures mentioned 2 Timothy 1:7, God doesn’t give you the spirit of fear. Exodus 14:15, Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on. James 1: 6-8, 6 But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7 That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8 Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do. ---- For More Dope Podcasts: Check out our projects on www.manna365.co - - - - - - - Follow the socials: IG: @beyondtheresume.pod Tik Tok: @beyondtheresume.pod YouTube: @beyondtheresume.pod --- #ChristianEntrepreneurship #Businessideas #beyondtheresumepodcast #patrickcroffie #Entrepreneurialtips #ChristianContent #ChristianpPodcast
I had the pleasure of interviewing my wife, Chanita Stone, (instagram: @writtenbystone_ ) for season 2 of her ministry project “Timeline Talks”. It was so good, I thought it would be unfair not sharing it on my platform as well. I am still in awe seeing her grow and utilize her gifts. We talked about: • Our unexpected journey into parenthood. • How she had a textbook pregnancy but her water broke at the 33rd week and then was induced at 34th weeks. • How we almost didn’t make it past our first year of marriage but we had to prioritize what was truly important • How Caleb came and rocked our lives • How she found herself angry with God • We also tap into her journey of discovering her gifts and how she is applying them. ... I believe this is story about vulnerability, discovering and applying your gifts, operating in faith and how God is still in control even if you question things … IG: @beyondtheresume.pod Youtube: Beyond the Resume #mannamedia
Consider this episode my graduation! There were 3 (three) key things I wanted to achieve during my first run at this podcast. I wanted to challenge myself to focus on base hits versus home runs, as my boy Jay puts it. Focusing on base hits still advances me through the bases - maybe not as quick - but there is still progress. Before even launching the first episode, I was in deep paralysis analysis and wanted to create this perfect roll out plan before officially announcing this project. Though honorable, it completely crippled me because nothing was ever good enough. With that said, I started to focus on the micro versus macro. I still have a vision for this project, but I am allowing the way I get there to be flexible i.e. giving myself grace and an opportunity to learn along the way. With that said, these are the key take-aways from what I am considering my last episode of season 1: Be Uncomfortable: Launching without having this drawn out plan wasn’t natural for me. It actually added more anxiety but it is something I needed to do. Because truthfully, if I approached this project like I typically do, I would probably still be in planning mode. And as James Clear puts it, “being in motion” trumps “taking action” every-time. Be Unapologetic: Do not deviate from who you are! In fact, double down! This can be defined in various ways, but for me its simply following your core beliefs, staying on your path, and not running someone else’s race. Betting Season: Challenging my self to think outside the box and not compartmentalize my efforts. The same critical skills and level of ownership I use for the 9-5 gig should be the same I apply to my personal endeavors. Lastly and arguably the connection between all of these Aligning Purpose & Vision (Bonus): Completely aligning your visions, core values, motivation with the purpose God has planned for you. This is an on going journey but I believe it is achieved through being uncomfortable, completely letting go, and intentionally leaning on Him for direction. —- Email: beyondtheresume.pod@gmail.com IG: @beyondtheresume.pod Youtube: @beyond the resume podcast
In this episode, I focus on two types of regrets: the action regret and the inaction regret. Action regrets are easier to identify. They are the regrets we can typically call-out after a moment of reflection. For example, instantly regretting saying something you shouldn’t have to a loved one or eating that piece of cake (*or three*) knowing you were working on summertime fine. Those regrets are quantifiable because we know what the impact is. However, inaction regrets are those that haunt us. They are the regrets of not doing something we wish we had. This can be as simple as not applying to a new job because we were afraid of leaving a comfortable position or more complex like not pursuing a dream opportunity because we didn’t have all the details completely figured out. These are typically the regrets that force us to look back and ask “What if… What if I pursued my dream of being a doctor, going to law school, opening that cafe, writing that book, or (fill in the blank)?” Lewis Carroll, author of “Alice’s Adventure in Wonderland” and its sequel “Through the Looking-Glass” wrote “In the end… we only regret the chances we didn’t take, and the decisions we waited too long to make”. And more famously, Mark Twain has a quote that reads “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail Away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade wings in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” Influenced by Mark Batterson’s book titled “In a Pit With a Lion on A Snowy Day”, I recall my inaction regret. In this episode I dive deeper into a business idea my partner and I pursued. Though this idea was growing support, we ended it pre-maturely. Years later, I still regret not seeing it through.
A few weeks ago, I set up an in-home date night for my wife and me. The date was simple. I wrote out 10 questions to draw at random for us to share and answer. One of the questions was “What’s a deep longing or dream for you?” I drew the question, so my wife had to answer first. When she answered, it struck a chord because in that moment we realized that we’ve allowed so many things to take priority. Consequently, our dreams have been reduced and put on the back burner. Towards the end of that conversation, we looked at each other and vowed to own our dreams and not let anything hinder us from achieving them. This episode serves as a call-to-action. For the 20-something year old, I want to encourage you to try new things. Don’t be afraid to fail because in those failures are priceless lessons. For the 30-something year old [my peers], I completely understand how difficult it is to work a 9 to 5 and carry the responsibilities of a household. In plain terms, it’s exhausting. But you can never forget or let go of the things you truly want. Key take-aways: Own your dreams and always feed them. Your friends may not understand your dreams but that is perfectly fine. Your dreams are designed exclusively for you. God has given you all the tools you need. You do not have to wait for tomorrow or next year - you are equipped now. Reminder to the listener: Matthew 5: 15-16: Don't hide your light! Let it shine for all; let your good deeds glow for all to see, so that they will praise your heavenly Father. ---- Instagram: @beyondtheresume.pod email: beyondtheresume.pod@gmail.com
There are hundreds of phrases around the pursuit of perfection. Mark Cuban says “ Perfection is the enemy of success”. There’s one that says “Perfection is the enemy of good”, another that goes “perfection is overrated”, and my personal favorite “perfection is the enemy of done”. Though I like it, I would challenge this and go further and say “Perfection is the enemy of even starting”. [Give me credit if this is your first time hearing that]. I am guilty of this and I know others are as well. We allow the self invoked idea of perfection to stifle us which leads to never writing those books, never launching those new products, never starting that blog, or never giving birth to those life altering ideas. Believe me, I fall victim to it but I am a firm believer that when you allow the enemy of perfection to take control you will never reach your full potential. And I am not dismissive to it being risky, scary even - but with risk comes reward. With risk comes invaluable lessons that will reshape your thinking, which will consequently reshape your life. In this episode I speak to my personal battles with perfection and the mental gymnastics I go through between these episode. These conversations are to drive further conversation but also let you know that I am also in the trenches. This isn’t from a place of retrospect where I can now wear the “been there, done that” t-shirt. It’s quite the opposite. But I share my own dealings because I know others will benefit and that is what truly matters. I leave with this powerful quote from Les Brown: “The graveyard is the richest place on earth, because it is here that you will find all the hopes and dreams that were never fulfilled, the books that were never written, the songs that were never sung, the inventions that were never shared, the cures that were never discovered, all because someone was too afraid to take that first step, keep with the problem, or determined to carry out their dream.” Imagine how many dreams were deferred because of the hunt for perfection. ------- IG: beyondtheresume.pod email: beyondtheresume.pod@gmail.com
In my household, the phrase “Lean in” has been circulating for months. It’s a simple phrase that speaks volumes. During a “timeline talk” interview my wife Chanita (IG:@writtenbystone_) was hosting, she mentioned she kept getting this push from God to “lean in”. And ever since that first mention, it has stuck with us. In today’s episode I really wanted to have a conversation with kindred spirits who are also defining their path. Though this episode is short, I wanted to focus on the following mental models that I am building, and I hope they benefit others listening. Key points: Business vs. Hobby - This was my declaration episode where I fully committed to this path in front of me. I do not know where it will lead but I am trusting the process and embracing the journey that follows. Putting Blinders On - The biggest deterrent getting started was comparing my literal day 1 to someone’s year 10. I found myself immobilized because I was too busy comparing my limited experience to other projects that have years in this game. Not only was it stifling, but it hindered me from honing my gifts and gaining my 10,000 hours. F.O.C.U.S. - I borrow this acronym from a really close friend who I consider part of my wise council. One thing that I suffer from is shiny object syndrome - where I constantly chase after everything new and shiny. You soon realize how detrimental this is. You begin to pursue things that aren’t meant for you, consequently re-routing you from operating in your purpose. ------ Instagram: @beyondtheresume.pod Email: beyondtheresume.pod@gmail.com
Funny enough I still haven’t shared that I am doing a podcast, but thanks to the algos that power IG, my page populated on a few “suggested friends list”. Though initially apprehensive - which I share in this episode- I am truly grateful for the conversations the first episode drove. The support was amazing and transcended numbers. Beyond listenership, the discussions were rich and proved how relatable this podcast is. In episode 2 I focus on the following: I share my initial apprehension with launching this podcast. How I am in the "garage day" phase The power I am beginning to see in being transparent and discussing things that are typically taboo.
If you're reading this, thank you for listening to the first episode of Beyond the Resume. With this being the 1st release, I thought it best to discuss the following 3 points: Why a podcast? The more concise answer is that I genuinely love podcast. I love the creation, the production, the craft and I'm learning to appreciate the business part as well. In addition, I believe content creators build legacies. My intent is to build a body of work that encourages people long after I am gone and I pray my kids learn more about their dad through these episodes. New book , who dis? I am legit in "betting on myself" mode. I am in a new environment, being exposed to new cultures, and living through new experiences. I’ve completely reshaped what I find important. I feel as though the cliche' "new chapter" doesn't suffice. For the past few years, I’ve been chasing my version of success but now I am chasing purpose. Sounds corny but it leads to my 3rd point. What is “Beyond the Resume”? Yes, it’s another podcast but I want to discuss things other than profit and losses, growing businesses, and making millions by age 20. I love and subscribe to those categories, but I want to bring light to other conversations. Conversations around parenting/spouse, unlearning things, or things that tend to follow success - imposter syndrome, self doubt, and survivor's remorse. So with that said, I am grateful you are here and hope you stay for the journey.
