This week on Confessions from the Home Office, I’m tackling one of the biggest questions business owners face: How in the world are you supposed to market your business when you’re already drowning in work? If you’ve ever said, “I’ll get back to marketing when things slow down,” consider this your friendly nudge, because that mindset is exactly what keeps businesses stuck in the feast-and-famine cycle. In this episode, I break down the simple system I use and teach clients to stay visible even on the weeks when life looks like a circus on fire. You don’t need complicated strategies, fancy graphics, or a four-hour planning session. You just need three core pieces that work together.  When these three elements work together, you stay top-of-mind without burning yourself out. It’s simple, it’s sustainable, and it keeps your marketing from slipping into panic mode later. I’ll walk you through what this looks like even during your busiest weeks, why consistency beats complexity every single time, and how staying visible now prevents that “oh no, everything is slowing down” moment later. Listen now on all major podcast platforms. Want to be on my email list so you get an email each week about the podcast and marketing insights? Before I dive into planning for the new year, I like to take time to declutter my digital space. In this episode, I’m walking you through a simple end-of-year reset to get your business systems back in alignment with where you are right now, not where you were three years ago. I'm covering everything from outdated bios and broken links to messy desktops and forgotten Canva folders, and I’ll share the exact steps I use to clean up my website, social profiles, email list, and files. By the end, you’ll feel lighter, more organized, and ready to start the new year with clarity.  Do you want a checklist to follow? Email me: wendi@marketmomentum.biz, and I'll send it right over!   P.S. Work on this now. Don't wait until the week between Christmas and the New Year. Cross this off your list now and enjoy that week NOT working!   #podcast #ConfessionsFromtheHomeOffice #digitalcleanup #marketingpodcast #marketingstrategy #MarketMomentum
In this week’s episode of Confessions from the Home Office, I’m talking about something that quietly drains the energy out of so many small businesses...random marketing. You know, when you post or send an email only when you have time, and it feels productive for a minute but never really builds momentum. I share why random marketing fails every single time and how to fix it for good by creating simple, repeatable systems that keep things moving even when life gets busy. I walk through how I structure my own weekly rhythm, how I document everything so nothing slips through the cracks, and how to measure simplicity, not just success. If you’re tired of starting over with your marketing every few months, this episode will help you find a rhythm that actually sticks. Questions? (Document your marketing before your memory deletes it.) In this episode, I’m confessing that my business has been partially running on what I call a “brain-based filing system.” I’ve always prided myself on knowing exactly where everything is, and I have a decent system, but as the business grows, I’m realizing that what’s in my head isn’t a system my team can follow. My business coach challenged me to document every process by December 10th, and I’m sharing how I’m doing it, client by client, using Trello, Loom videos, and checklists. This isn’t about control, it’s about freedom and scalability. If it’s only in your head, it’s not a process. So grab your Google Doc or Trello board and start documenting your marketing before your memory deletes it. #ConfessionsFromtheHomeOfficePodcast #WendiHill #MarketingSOP #MarketMomentum #GreenvilleSC
If your marketing to-do list feels like chaos and nothing seems to stick, this episode is for you. This week I walk through five essential questions to help you simplify your strategy, stop chasing shiny objects, and focus on what actually drives results. From narrowing your marketing channels to auditing your tech stack and knowing when “good enough” is truly enough, this conversation will help you clear the clutter and find momentum again. Listen how to identify what’s working, define clear goals, and stop overcomplicating your marketing, so you can get back to building a business that grows with less stress and more focus.   Contact Wendi at wendi@marketmomentum.biz   #confessionsfromthehomeofficepodcast #organizeyourmarketing #simplifyyourmarketing #marketmomentum #wendihill
A quick stop at TJ Maxx turned into one of the best marketing lessons I’ve ever had. As I stood in that winding checkout line with a serving dish I didn’t need, I realized TJ Maxx has mastered the art of small, strategic offers; upsells and add-ons that feel helpful, not pushy. In this episode, I share how that same approach can grow your business without adding chaos. From knowing what to offer next to timing it just right, I’ll walk you through how to create your own “checkout line” moments that increase revenue and make your clients’ lives easier. Because sometimes, growth isn’t about finding new customers, it’s about serving the ones you already have a little bit better. So many business owners confuse random marketing tactics with having a real strategy. Posting memes, chasing trends, and boosting a post here and there might feel productive, but it often leads to burnout, wasted money, and very little actual growth.  In this episode of the Confessions from the Home Office Podcast, I answer five common questions that will help you shift from scattered efforts to intentional strategy. You’ll learn why a simple plan makes all the difference, how to define your target audience, which platforms you should (and shouldn’t) focus on, what metrics truly matter, and the very first steps you can take to create a strategy that actually works. By the end, you’ll see that marketing doesn’t have to be overwhelming. With a clear goal, a defined audience, and consistent action on the right platforms, you’ll finally have a path forward that drives real results, not just likes. And if you’re ready to stop guessing and start building systems that work, I share how my 60-day Accelerate program can help you set goals, map out strategy, and put everything in place without having to do it alone. In this episode of Confessions From the Home Office, I’m digging into one of my favorite topics: customer experience and retention. While chasing new leads and closing fresh sales might feel exciting, the real growth often comes from the people already working with you. Long-term clients, some who’ve stayed with me for 7, 8, even 12 years, are the ones who have truly built my business. I answer five big questions that come up again and again in consulting sessions, podcasts, and even conversations with other business owners: Which matters more, acquiring new customers or keeping the ones you already have? How can you create a customer experience people can’t help but share? What’s the easiest way to turn happy clients into advocates for your brand? How do you handle unhappy customers without damaging your reputation? And how can small businesses build loyalty without expensive programs? If you’ve ever wondered how to keep your clients coming back, and get them talking about you, this episode will give you practical, sustainable ideas you can start using right away.
In this episode of Confessions From the Home Office, I answer five of the most common social media strategy questions I hear from clients, colleagues, and fellow business owners. If you’ve ever felt stuck trying to keep up with shifting algorithms, struggling to balance AI tools with authentic content, or wondering if you’re spreading yourself too thin across platforms, you’re not alone! I share what really matters when creating content that gets seen without paying for ads every time, why AI should be treated more like a helpful intern than a replacement for your voice, and how choosing focus over frenzy can help you avoid burnout while building traction. We also look at the real way to measure ROI on social media (spoiler: likes don’t pay the bills), and I give simple strategies for repurposing content across TikTok, Instagram, and LinkedIn without feeling like you’re just copy-pasting. Along the way, I include real client stories, such as how one company boosted engagement by ditching “buy now” posts in favor of behind-the-scenes moments, and practical tips you can apply right away to your own social media. If you’ve been second-guessing your strategy or spinning your wheels trying to keep up with every trend, this conversation will help you step back, simplify, and start creating content that actually works.   #wendihill#marketmomentum #confessionsfromthehomeofficepodcast #marketingstrategy #SocialMediaFAQs #SocialMediaStrategy
This week’s episode of Confessions From the Home Office is a little different, I almost didn’t hit record. My voice is shot, I’ve been knocked down with bronchitis (and probably COVID), my golden retriever Lola may need knee surgery, and I just learned about a new people tracker app. You'll have to listen to get the scoop on that.  In other words…life has been a lot. But even in the middle of chaos, the business still has to run. In this episode, I share: What it’s like when there’s no “sick note” when you’re your own boss The near-meltdown I had at the vet’s office (Lola may need Instagram brand deals to pay for TPLO surgery) Why systems and delegation kept everything moving even when I couldn’t How Trello saved me from forgetting projects and client updates while I was medicated and exhausted The importance of knowing your “backup people” before you need them And why grace, buffer time, and documented processes belong in every business plan I also give a sneak peek into something I’m building: a new membership program called Marketing Tech Skills That Pay the Bills. It’s designed to help you learn practical, in-demand tech skills that can boost your job, freelance opportunities, or side projects, without getting drowned by AI hype. Sometimes running a business from home means powering through when you’d rather crawl back to bed. Other times, it means giving yourself permission to slow down because you’ve built the systems and support that let things keep moving. So grab your tea (or cough syrup in my case) and join me for this week’s confession. #confessionsfromthehomeoffice #lola #trello #covid #TPLO #wendihill #marketingagency
In this episode of Confessions From the Home Office, I talk with my good friend and nationally known speaker, Deb Sofield. Deb has spent her career coaching leaders, executives, students, and public figures all over the world on how to communicate with clarity and confidence. She’s also the first woman to serve as Commissioner of Public Works for the Greenville Water System since its founding in 1918, and she’s the author of five books on speaking, leadership, and encouragement. We talk about the number one mistake people make when preparing for a presentation, and Deb doesn’t hold back...“good enough” is never good enough. She shares her tough-love advice on how to practice, prepare, and deliver a message that truly resonates. From auctioneer school to the political stage, Deb’s career has given her a unique perspective on how words and delivery can make or break opportunities. You’ll hear practical tips that go beyond the usual “just breathe” advice, why you should never pop a mint before speaking, how to choose three memorable words to weave into your talk, and why showing up for others matters as much as what’s on your résumé. Whether you’re a student interviewing for your first job, a professional trying to stand out, or a leader speaking to thousands, Deb’s no-nonsense wisdom will give you tools you can put to work right away. Be sure to check out her books, including Speak Without Fear and Perfecting Your Platform, and visit DebSofield.com for more resources. This conversation is full of stories, humor, and practical advice that will change the way you think about communicating.   #debsofield #speakwithoutfear #greenvillewatersystem #confessionsfromthehomeoffice #wendihill #perfectingyourplatform #interviewcoaching
In this episode, I'm stepping away from marketing strategies to talk about a season of life that is both challenging and full of love. Running a business from home is demanding enough, but what happens when you are also the go-to person for college-age kids, aging parents, and clients who count on you every day? I share a recent scare with my dad, the constant stream of "hey I need help or did you see my Venmo" texts from my kids, and the daily reality of managing it all while trying to keep my business running smoothly. What could feel overwhelming is reframed through my many years of client service. I explain how staying calm under pressure, asking better questions before reacting, and reading between the lines, skills honed with clients, have unexpectedly prepared me for family emergencies and everyday surprises. This episode is not about having it all figured out. It is a confession about the messy middle: the guilt, the fatigue, and the moments of wondering where there is space for yourself. I'm sharing practical strategies that keep me grounded, from time-blocking and delegation to ten-minute “micro rests” and laughter with friends. I'm also giving a shout out to the steady support of my husband, who shows up in ways big and small to remind me that I am not alone in carrying the load. If you have ever felt like you are holding everything together for multiple generations, this conversation will remind you that you are not the only one. It is okay to admit it is hard, and it is also okay to let others in. If this resonates with you, share it with a friend who is also juggling a lot. Sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is say it out loud: yes, this season is tough, and we are still doing it.   #thesandwichgeneration #confessionsfromthehomeofficepodcast #wendihill #takingcareofparents #takingcare ofcollegekids #caregivingpodcast #marketingpodcast
Do you ever catch yourself scrolling through Instagram, comparing your offers, your branding, or even your pricing to someone else’s? I’ve been there, more times than I’d like to admit. It feels like “research,” but in reality? It’s a competition trap that drains your energy and steals your momentum. In this episode, I’m sharing my own confession about becoming a “competition stalker” and how I broke the cycle. We’ll talk about: Why obsessing over competitors keeps you stuck and second-guessing yourself The real cost of comparison (it’s more than just wasted time) How to put yourself on a “competitor diet” and redirect that energy toward your clients Building your own scorecard to measure progress that actually matters Simple ways to create client experiences that bring referrals, repeat business, and stability At the end of the day, your competitors aren’t paying your bills, your clients are. The more you focus on serving them well, the faster your business will grow. This week, mute or unfollow the competitors who trigger your comparison cycle. Instead, use that time to serve your clients or improve your systems. If this episode resonated with you, I’d love to hear your story. We’ve all heard it: Just start. You see it on Instagram quotes, printed on mugs, and dropped into motivational talks like it’s the magic key to success. And sometimes, it is. But other times? It’s a straight shot to burnout, half-finished projects, and a whole lot of frustration. In this episode, I’m sharing: The times “just start” pushed me past fear and into big wins. The times it led me straight into overwhelm and unfinished ideas. My personal checklist for deciding when to go for it and when to put an idea on the “later” list. You’ll learn how to keep the spirit of “just start” while avoiding the chaos it can cause, plus why the middle of a project, though rarely Instagram-worthy, is where the real magic happens. If you’ve ever wondered whether you should jump in or hold back, this one’s for you. Your takeaway this week: Decide if you’re in a starting season or a finishing season, and focus your energy accordingly.   #juststart #confessionsfromthehomeofficepodcast #marketingagencygreenville #wendihill #boundaries
Have you ever paid a marketing agency a lot of money… only to wonder what you actually got in return? You’re not the only one. In this episode of Confessions from the Home Office, I’m talking about what’s really happening behind the scenes when agency support goes sideways. From confusing deliverables to MIA communication, I share why the agency model can feel broken and what marketing support should look like when done right. You’ll learn: The biggest red flags before you sign an agency contract Why you’re not the problem (even if you’re feeling burned out and second-guessing everything) What real marketing support should give you: clarity, traction, and results—not stress Plus, I’ll share how we do things differently at Market Momentum and how we’ve helped business owners rebuild after agency disappointment. Hi there, it’s Wendi Hill, and if you've ever wondered whether to start a blog, launch a newsletter, or dive into podcasting, you're not alone. I get this question all the time from clients and friends trying to figure out the best way to build visibility and share what they know. In this episode, I discuss the real differences between the three, how they work, what they’re great for, and what it actually takes to keep them going. Newsletters are still one of the highest-ROI marketing tools out there. No algorithm, no dancing, just your message sent directly to your audience. If you're not ready to start one yet, at least start building that email list. Blogs are powerful for SEO and long-term traffic, especially if you're in a niche like law, wellness, or home services. But it’s not instant gratification. You need a plan and patience, one strong blog post a month is better than 20 random updates. Then there’s podcasting. It builds trust fast because people hear your voice and get to know your personality. Yes, there’s a little more production involved, but it doesn’t have to be fancy, I started mine in my home office. I also repurpose each episode into a blog post and LinkedIn newsletter to reach more people with less work. If you're not sure where to start, go with what you’ll actually stick with. Like to write? Go with a blog or newsletter. Like to talk? Try podcasting. Commit to it for 90 days and see what happens. Thanks for joining me in the home office today. If this episode helped, share it with someone who’s stuck. And if you want help figuring out where to start, my contact info is in the show notes. Talk soon, because I always have something to say! This week, I’m talking about something that doesn’t get nearly enough credit in the marketing world: consistency. It’s not flashy. And it's not sexy. Consistency is what actually builds businesses. It’s the behind-the-scenes move that separates the people who slowly build momentum and fill their client rosters, from the ones who keep reinventing the wheel every few weeks. In this episode, I'm talking about why consistency feels so hard, specially when you’re not seeing immediate results, what it actually looks like in a sustainable way, and why doing the same “boring” actions week after week builds the kind of trust that turns followers into clients. I share real stories from clients who struggled with giving up too soon and how a small shift in expectations helped them start seeing traction. This episode also goes over simple strategies to help you show up regularly, without burning out or over-committing. If you’ve ever felt like no one’s paying attention or like your message isn’t landing, this episode is your reminder to stay in the game. Because the truth is: you don’t need to do more. You just need to keep showing up. If this episode gives you the nudge you needed to finally hit publish on that post or send that email, let me know! My email inbox is a dumpster fire. If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by a mountain of unread messages, accidentally ghosted someone, or hit send without the attachment, you’re in good company. In this episode of Confessions from the Home Office, I’m sharing my biggest email confessions, a few embarrassing confessions, and what I’ve learned about managing my inbox along the way. From dreaming about a zero inbox one day to aggressive archiving, I talk through the real-life systems I use now, including email templates, batching responses, and the importance of writing clear subject lines. After listening to this episode, you should feel a little less alone in the inbox overwhelm. If you’re trying to keep your business running from the home office, the kitchen table (or your car), this episode is your permission to stop chasing perfection and start managing email with a little more humor and grace. In this episode, I'm talking to business owners who prefer to work behind the scenes, those who know they have something valuable to offer but don’t feel the need to constantly be online, posting, or shouting to prove it. I'm sharing how I built a sustainable, successful business over the past 20 years, not by being the loudest in the room, but by being consistent, strategic, and deeply trustworthy. I'm taking the pressure off to “show up” loudly on social media. In this episode, you’ll hear: The reality of online noise and why more isn’t always better How I quietly built a thriving business as a new mom without a brand or following What it looks like to be “confidently quiet” in your business, such as setting boundaries, being intentional, and doing great work Why calm, focused professionals often earn more trust (and more referrals) The long-term benefits of choosing depth over hype If you're tired of chasing trends and just want to do meaningful work in a way that fits you, this episode will feel like a deep breath. Key Quote: “Attention is cheap—but trust builds momentum.” Know someone who needs to hear this? Share this episode with a friend who’s building quietly—or wants to.
