You'll be entered to win one of the beautiful Decision Masters Daily Check-Set Journals or the Grand Prize of a two-week Private Coaching Program with me! Let's keep the celebration going with a necessary conversation about Self-Trust. This is one of the foundational elements of Conscious Decision-Making (a Decision Masters concept), and I'm going to help you build it in under 10 minutes! What I've found over years of creating, achieving and (let's be honest) surviving things that I never anticipated — and years of helping high-achieving, busy-brained clients do the same — is that self-trust is at the heart of all of our success. AND our enjoyment of it. Listen for: The breakdown of my definition of Self-Trust ("the awareness and cultivation of your resilience and resourcefulness," if you're curious) - and why it's important not to think it's just a "feeling" How to proactively tune into and cultivate self-trust  What difference this will make on your perspective on past decisions and how you prepare for and face future situations!   LINKS! "I don't want to make a selfish decision" is something I hear a lot. "Here's exactly what I mean by that..." is not! This is why it's so easy to default to decisions you don't really want to make. If you're afraid a choice might be selfish — but you don't have a clear definition of "selfish" — of course the safest option is to avoid that choice, and thereby avoid the possibility of being selfish! In this episode, I'm going to help you know what you're really afraid of, when this "selfish" concern comes up. We explore 5 common fears (from thoughts people might think about you to negative consequences, and more!) And we break down how to truly identify if a choice is selfish (according to your definition), or if it's actually self-honoring. Because you don't just deserve to make decisions you stand behind, that serve you — you deserve to not feel GUILTY about them! This will set the record straight.   Links! This question will make you more productive, efficient and self-directed. When used correctly! Whether you're taking on a big scary goal or trying to lessen the chaos of your day — this question will help you shortcut to powerful action. How can I make this easier? If that feels too obvious, wait! Because there's a strategic way to answer it, and you'll be amazed at what you find: Limiting beliefs Assumptions creating obstacles Ways of thinking that you didn't even put in your own head! I walk you through real-life examples of how to use this question (strategically) to make it easier to see solutions, take action, and not melt into a puddle of overwhelm. Remember: You can do hard things. AND you can make them easier.  You've got this.   Links! What's your DECISION STYLE? Take the Quiz! So you've made a plan. You've separated your Decision Time from your Doing Time, to save yourself some precious energy. (See Episode #96!) But now the moment has arrived and all your brain minions are yelling I don't wanna! What do you do? Today's episode breaks down FOUR killer tactics to deal with resistance in follow-through. We cover: How to establish a new set of Life Rules that doesn't require "all or nothing" for you to get stuff done Why you should plan on not wanting to do stuff (instead of keep beating yourself up for it) The difference between "reacting" vs "responding" to resistance (that's also the difference between "avoiding/procrastinating" and "making a conscious decision") How to get to all that Important, Non-Urgent Stuff you keep putting off The value of declaring the stakes of WHAT you do and HOW you do it My favorite trick for getting myself to do things I don't wanna (but really DO wanna) A random personal story where I tell a Starbucks Barista I'm not weird (it's unrelated, but we go there)   Links! Sometimes, you need to think on your feet then act fast. It's not impossible — plus, you're really good at it! — but it does take a ton of mental energy. Today we're looking at the depleting habit of combining "decision time" with "doing time" as your norm. If you find your days FULL of choices about what to do next, how to do it, how long to spend on it...and those choices all feel like pretty heavy lifts...this episode's for you. This episode will show you how to make decisions in advance (sometimes they're full-on plans, sometimes they're tiny choices!) that set you up for easier and better follow-through. We look at:  The energy it takes to decide AND act all in one fell swoop Structure vs Routine (why you don't need to micromanage your whole life to feel the benefits of "decisions in advance") Honoring how you operate best How to spot prime opportunities to separate your decision time from your "doing time"   Links! If you've ever gotten stuck or overwhelmed making a decision, you likely have experience with Low-Quality Questions. It can seem like your brain hurls these at you, almost as an attack. The problem is: These questions are often unanswerable.  (How can you tell, for example, "What's going to happen?" - "Would I be happier doing X or Y?" - "Is this the best thing to do for my career / business / family?") And when you feel like you can't move forward without the answers to impossible questions - you leave yourself nowhere to go. In this episode, I walk you through spotting low-quality questions, getting out of their stressful spin cycle, and turning them into high-quality questions that are worth answering, that will move you forward. Do you have clear, specific goals? Are they written down? Do you talk about them with anyone regularly – check in on your progress and plans for pursuing them? Does it surprise you that most people's answers to all of these questions are NO? In this episode, I'm breaking down "goals" in a way you might not have heard before. Because I don't just want you to achieve what you want in life. I want you to know WHY you want those things, and to set yourself up to thrive EVEN IF plans go awry. The truth is: No life-changing goal is 100% guaranteeable. You can only control and predict and plan for the smallest, easiest, safest outcomes. But if you want to create an aligned life full of rich experiences, being your most unlimited, authentic self...You're going to need to set BIG goals. If you're on a mission to understand yourself better, so you can both have more self-compassion and be more equipped to handle the heavy machinery that is YOU, this episode is spot on. I've pinpointed 5 things I've learned about emotions over the course of my 6+ years Coaching, during which there's constant ongoing education and training. These are 5 things I actually wish I'd known sooner — because of the impact they've had on aforementioned self-compassion, -understanding and -direction. If you could only pack 5 podcast episodes for a trip to a deserted island for the rest of forever, this would be one of them. How do you deal with fear in the decision process. Concerns, worries, anxieties, worst-case-scenario'ing, fear of people's opinions (FOPO)... From the smallest choice about how to phrase a text, to the biggest life decision about your career or relationship - Fear will make all the difference in you understanding and loving your choice...or not.  This episode is a Masterclass in Conscious Decision Making. We cover: How to spot "fear" interrupting, delaying or misguiding your choices (even if it doesn't automatically look or feel like "fear") What it means to acknowledge a fear without judgment or arguing Why most fears come up (and what they want for you) The vital importance of validating fears (yup, even if you think they're f****ng irrational or infuriating) And TWO methods of having a thorough, efficient, effective (self-compassionate) conversation with yourself about these fears One is using the Four Fear Questions from Episode 16 (see free downloadable in the Show Notes!) The other is "handing that Minion the mic and letting him be heard by your Mind Committee" I also walk you through a real-life example of using these tools to arrive at a clear, confident decision - instead of angsting about it for a year: my own choice to start the very first Decision Masters Program back in 2021! Building up a fluency in your fear will let you feel so much more conscious and in charge - which means you'll make decisions in a different way than you would have otherwise, if you didn't know what to do with these fears. That level of ownership will save you time, energy, and angst. And open up more decisions that are in alignment for you, Which is, of course, the dream.   Links! If you're an overthinker, people-pleaser, indecisive or anxious...guess what. Fear is getting in the way of a lot of your decisions. Don't worry, I'm here to help! Wouldn't it be nice to have a formula for dealing with fear?  So when you went to make a decision and got worried, anxious, self-conscious, uncertain, or any other flavor of scared...it wasn't a big deal? What if you knew what do to when "fear happens" - and you could land on a clear, confident choice anyway? YES PLEASE. This is the second episode in a series all about fear in decision-making. Today, we focus on the DON'Ts.  Listen in for: How fluency in your fear is going to make your decisions 10x easier for LIFE What it looks / sounds / feels like for fear to influence your choices The 3 most common ways we unskillfully respond to fear when making a decision   Links! How to make a clear, confident decision when you're confused?  Well, that might not be the most useful question to ask here...Lemme try a rephrase.  How do you solve the problem of confusion? (Insert thinky emoji here) Feeling stuck in confusion is such a normal, human, no-need-to-judge situation.  But there's an easier solution than a) waiting for the answer to suddenly become clear or b) forcing a choice through basically-random selection. It starts with asking a better question: What might I be afraid of here? Today I propose that confusion isn't always the straightforward feeling we think it is. Sometimes, it's a subconscious an escape attempt to avoid using up energy and/or getting vulnerable enough to declare a choice! This episode kicks off a series on FEAR. By the end of the next few weeks, you'll be so fluent in your own personal language of fear that you'll cut decision time in half - starting with wherever you've been confused!   Links! The decision is DONE, hooray!...But wait. You're not doing the thing you decided to do. (Ruh-roh.) Whether it's sending a simple email or putting a large deposit down, implementing a choice can be the toughest part of this whole "deciding" process. Today we break down 3 specific issues that can contribute to this (super common) stall-out scenario, and how to get yourself into action. Listen in for how to: Make sure you truly ARE decided (and how to get there if you're not) Check if sneaky perfectionism is creating unnecessary obstacles (aka if you're "shoulding" all over yourself) Create an actionable plan for even the biggest, scariest decisions   Links! Your inner dialogue is like a radio station that's always running. There are times you're super tuned into it and listening closely to your self-talk (usually when you're feeling really good or really bad about yourself!) But even when these messages aren't coming through loud 'n clear...the station's still broadcasting. Today I'm asking you to tune in on purpose, and find out what your Self-Talk Baseline is. Why? Because these messages you're consciously and subconsciously sending yourself all day long are the biggest contributor to your Self-Concept.  And your Self-Concept (the story you believe about who you are) is a huge driver of decisions! If you want to be the type of person who is (fill in the blank: successful, confident, self-celebratory), then you need to make decisions that kind of person would make. And there's no way to do that if you don't believe you ARE that kind of person. So to hack your Self-Concept, we're going straight to the source: your Self-Talk. Listen in for 3 ways to check what your Self-Talk Baseline is, and how to create an Anchor Thought to shift your inner dialogue on purpose!   Links! What Kool-Aid are decisive people drinking, and where can we get some? Look no further my friend. Today we reveal the "secrets" that give decisive people their superpower. Spoiler alert, they ain't hard, surprising or even out of your wheel house! Let's dig into these 5 things you're already doing (yes, you!) that make it easy to make firm, confident decisions in certain areas of life.  When you realize what you're already good at, you can transfer those skills to the choices that seem harder to nail down. Here are the 5 "secrets" we get into in this episode: Where decisive people focus when facing decisions The decisive person's stance on perfection How people's reactions affect decisive people The decisive person's winning perspective on "options" How decisive people deal with high stakes   Links! Today we're diving into what you can DO differently in order to experience different results. Specifically: The results of not feeling *behind* all the time. If you want to be on top of things, prioritize on purpose, and feel good about how you use your time - this is the episode for you! In Part 1 (Ep 85), we explored how you can THINK differently (so make sure to catch that, since half our problems can usually be solved in the mind!) For everything else though, we have to change our tactics. In this episode I ask you to consider key questions, to find out which solutions will make the biggest impact for you: Is your schedule written down, and is it in one place or 20? Are your larger goals making it onto your calendar? Are you being DECISIVE? This is a big one! Do you have "alternate universe To Do List time"? Are you a Rollover Tasker or Repeat Event Ignorer?   Each of these questions points to a game-changing...erhm...change you can make, to feel more control over your calendar and feel better about how you use your time!  Links! GREAT. You're on board with the decision to stop living your life "feeling behind."  Let's do it. This episode is a two-parter because calendars can feel chaotic enough — We need a simple framework to de-behind-ify them. So we're going to look at your schedule thusly: To change your results — in our case, not feeling behind anymore) — you can either change what you're thinking, change what you're doing, or both. Today's episode explores what you might need to THINK differently, in order to stop feeling constantly behind. I ask you to consider these 3 questions (and go into mega detail about how to answer them!): Are you clear on what your hours are for (aka "have you defined "enough")? Are you setting kind and honest self-expectations? (note: there's a reason I didn't say "realistic") Who else is in your head (and trickling into those expectations we mentioned) Give these a good think and you'll be primed to make the most of the next episode (where we get into what you want to DO differently) — Goodbye, perpetual behind-dome! There are two main reasons I want you to consider unsubscribing from the "I'm Behind" mindset: #1: What it does to your self-concept. #2: How it distracts you from real problems worth solving! Here's what we're covering in the first of this series on never living in this "I'm behind" story again: How your Mindset Atmosphere works (what letting one belief in can do to the entire system) Why this is a decision you need to make BEFORE you reorg your schedule How to stop living in the cycle of feeling behind, burning out to catch up, repeat Links! As the chapter of 2023 comes to a close, you may feel compelled to reflect on the year — but if you're like me, you may also be too tired and forward-focused for a big "reflect sesh" to sound fun right now. So as to not miss out on any valuable lessons, but also to make reflection doable enough to, erm, DO...I'm offering a simple but powerful practice to look back and make a game plan for what's ahead. Listen in as I share 3 toxic, unhelpful thoughts I'm leaving behind (and how you can locate the beliefs you don't want to invest in next year). I like to think of goals as mountains we wanna climb. An obstacle "at the trail head" for a lot of people is this big misunderstanding. That you need a perfect routine and/or to go 110% HAM in order to achieve a goal. If you've been frustrated at your lack of progress on a goal (or starting, period) - but you also can't (or don't want to!) get into systematized daily routine, or take a week off to laser-focus on one thing only, this episode's for you.
