Patrick Holford
Patrick Holford, BSc, DipION, FBANT, NTCRP, is a leading spokesman on nutrition and mental health and founder of both the Food for the Brain Foundation, VitaminC4Covid and the Institute for Optimum Nutrition, an educational charity that offers degree accredited training in nutritional therapy.
Originally trained in psychology. Patrick was involved in groundbreaking research showing that multivitamins can increase children’s IQ scores – the subject of a Horizon television documentary in the 1980s. He was one of the first promoters of the importance of zinc, essential fats, low-GL diets and homocysteine-lowering B vitamins and their importance in mental health and Alzheimer’s prevention, working closely with David Smith, Emeritus Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Oxford.
He is CEO of the charitable Food for the Brain Foundation and Director of the Alzheimer’s is Preventable campaign and Chair of their Scientific Advisory Board.
He is the author of several papers and 46 books, translated into over 30 languages, including The Optimum Nutrition Bible, Optimum Nutrition for the Mind, Food is Better Medicine than Drugs, the Ten Secrets of Healthy Ageing and Upgrade Your Brain, as well his latest book Alzheimer’s:Prevention is the Cure. He is a retired visiting professor at the University of Teeside and is in the Orthomolecular Medicine Hall of Fame and on the Editorial Board for the Orthomolecular News Service. Patrick brings 40 years of research and experience in the field of nutrition.

Take fish seriously especially oily fish.

Hi, I’m Faith-Anne! I’ve been sugar and wheat free since I was four years old. Before that, I only had tiny amounts, but when I started school, my parents noticed I was getting a lot more, and they didn’t feel okay with that. Since they don’t eat sugar themselves, they decided to feed me only real food, the kind they’d eat too.
Now I feel amazing! I can focus better at school, I don’t get so fidgety, and I have loads of energy for swimming, which I love. I’m making this podcast to help other kids (and grown-ups!) learn what sugar really does to us and how much better we can feel without it.

Faith’s Top Tips
Don’t let other people talk you into something by telling you it is cool.
Don’t be a cog in a machine – there is sugar everywhere so don’t be a part of it that machine – don’t buy it for them.
Don’t believe the famous the people that have sugary drinks placed in front of them – they probably don’t drink them.
Look at labels – if one of the first 3-5 ingredients is a sugar product don’t buy it.

Dr Sarah Myhill
Dr Sarah Myhill qualified from the Middlesex Hospital Medical School in 1981. For the next 20 years she worked as an NHS GP and later moved into Independent Medical Practice with a special interest in CFS and ME .
She practices Ecological Medicine which diagnoses mechanisms of disease with obvious implications for management. Since 1986 she has been an active member of the British Society of Ecological Medicine and has a Diploma in Clinical Nutrition.
She is a published author and researcher on chronic fatigue syndrome and mitochondrial dysfunction. Her books include “Chronic Fatigue Syndrome – it’s mitochondria not hypochondria” and “Ecological Medicine – the antidote to Big Pharma and fast food”
She has made many media appearances including Newsnight, Dispatches, Woman’s Hour and the Esther Rantzen Show.
Sarah loves walking, riding, gardening and is very much into self-sufficiency. One of the joys in her life along with her two daughters is her Patterdale terrier Nancy.

Consultant Clinical Health Psychologist.
Past Chair UK Association for Solution Focused Practice. Winner of the British Psychological Society Karen Ehlert Lifetime achievement award in clinical health psychology. Co-founder of Food Addiction Solutions.
Dr Jen Unwin has spent her professional life interested in the role of hope in chronic disease and how it can be used to bring about behaviour change.
Her insights teamed up perfectly with Dr David Unwin’s interests in bringing about drug-free type 2 diabetes remission. For over 13 years they have been running group sessions in primary care to achieve just that, so far for more than 150 patients.
Both doctors were featured in a BBC TV documentary ‘The truth about carbs’ that was seen by 3.7 million viewers.
Jen has written a book ‘A Fork In The Road’ and is part of a team that published the first ever treatment study in the field and co-ordinated an international expert consensus on food addiction.

Casey Ruff has been a certified personal trainer since 2007. He successfully ran a metabolic testing program for a large gym and oversaw 13 programs in the west region. He has multiple certifications as a personal trainer, lifestyle coach, and performance enhancement specialist.

She practices full scope obstetrics and gynecology at Loma Linda University Health, an academic medical center in Southern California. Her clinical practice is diverse, ranging from low risk women’s health care to complex gynecologic and obstetric problems.
A large part of her practice involves root-cause investigation into the development of gynecologic disease. Particularly, she focuses on metabolic health, as it relates to the development of uterine fibroids, endometrial polyps, and endometriosis. She has a special interest in using non-surgical strategies to treat endometriosis. Dr. Salcedo is a clinical researcher and published author in peer-reviewed academic journals. She has spoke at several conferences, including at the prestigious, Symposia for Metabolic Health, in San Diego and Boca, she is a clinical instructor for the Nutrition Network, and has been a featured on several podcasts. She also serves as an expert for the Osteopathic Medical Board of California.
She is an active member of the Society for Metabolic Health Practitioners.
She also has a YouTube Channel that promotes metabolic strategies to treating gynecologic problems, called Conscious Gynecologist. She also has an active telehealth practice where she consults on a metabolic approach to treating gynecologic diseases.
She is fluent in English and Spanish. Dr. Salcedo has a passion for cooking, lifestyle design, and work-life balance. She is an avid reader, and often reads outside of her field to make connections to what she does every day, treating patients.

I am a life-long vegetarian turned carnivore. Now with far too much actual fuel going to my brain, I have become utterly obsessed with the topic and writing a book hoping to inspire people to spend parts of their life in ketosis and reduce their disharmonies.
The intention of the book is that anyone from any country, religion, education and budget, can benefit from applying what is laid out inside it. Other than that, I am also studying with Dr Nasha Winters, mostly for my own understanding rather than as a potential job.
I also make a superb line of unique jewellery often combining precious stones with 2000 year old beads and some gold!
Since carnivore for the first time in my life I can sleep through the night, and do maths. I marvel at how it buffers mental states such as depression and anxiety. Perhaps because I have more mental energy to think, I am more angry, or perhaps that is the peri-menopause which is a whole other conversation.
I am totally in love with the subject of health, and through keto, carnivore and low carb, my understanding has gone through a huge upgrade. I am also a trained acupuncturist since 2002 and was a masseur for 12 years.

Angela A Stanton, PhD has earned her doctorate in NeuroEconomics (experimental neuroscience using economic models) and is also fMRI certified, having earned the following degrees: PhD Claremont Graduate University in Economics with dissertation in neuroscience; fMRI certification at Harvard University, Athinoula A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging; MS in Management Science & Engineering, Stanford University; MBA at University of California, Riverside; BSc Mathematics, UCLA.
Her doctoral research focused on understanding how human decision-making is influenced by neurotransmitter changes. She ran clinical trial experiments, gaining an appreciation of the role hormones play in emotional and physiological decisions.
A lifelong migraine sufferer, in 2008 she took early retirement from her academic position and has been an avid researcher in the field of migraines. Her efforts of understanding the cause of migraines have been assisted by thousands of migraine sufferers around the world.
In 2014 she published the first, and in 2017 the second edition, of the book (Fighting The Migraine Epidemic: Complete Guide. How to Treat & Prevent Migraines Without Medicines) that established her as a leader in the field of migraine research based on nutrition and electrolyte management.

Doug Reynolds is the author of The Road to Metabolic Health, the Founder and CEO of LowCarbUSA® and President of the Society of Metabolic Health Practitioners.
LowCarbUSA (now called Symposium of Metabolic Health) provides a platform for internationally renowned scientists and medical practitioners to present the ever-increasing body of evidence on the benefits of reducing carbohydrates in the diet and adding in healthy fats. Gayle Gerry
Gayle Gerry qualified in 1998. She spent her first 8 years in Accident & Emergency, and was also in the Army reserves as a Nursing officer. During this time she did operational tours to Kosovo, then was compulsory mobilised to Iraq in 2003 as a specialist A&E nurse based in the 200 bedded field hospital.
The move to general practice was by accident when she met a GP who was desperate for a nurse. At this point she was looking to change career.
She met a patient in 2012 who ended up putting this diabetes into remission, and her curiosity from this, led her to where she is today.
She is an ambassador for the PHC. She has run group consultations for diabetes remission since 2019 both face to face and online, and is one of the organisers of the Primary Care Lifestyle conference, which she is now planning the 4th one.
She also leads a session on David Cavern’s (endocrinologist) health care professionals course – low carb for type 2 diabetes.

Netta Gorman
Netta Gorman is the person behind Life After Sugar… because real life carries on even when you’re sugar free. Netta has been living happily free from sugar, flour and sweeteners since July 2015 (6 years now!). She spent most of her thirties and early forties struggling with chronic constipation and digestion issues but she never thought that her love for chocolate and desserts had anything to do with it. Doctors kept telling her to eat more fibre, but this was making things worse, not better.
In July 2015, she got to a breaking point where her pain and suffering was so bad that she decided to do something she’d never tried before: cut out sugar, flour and sweeteners for a temporary period of just 2 weeks. And to her complete amazement, she felt so much better that she just carried on and never looked back!
One thing that still amazes her is that her tastes changed, and now she doesn’t even *like* sweet tastes any more (whereas before, she was the world’s #1 sweet tooth). And most of all, the one word that sums up her life after sugar is “freedom” – freedom from cravings, from energy crashes, from that love-hate relationship with sugar, from all the health issues she had. And this is why she decided to help other people to get to this place of freedom and peace with food and with themselves, with the Life After Sugar Program.
