Explore what you think you're truly capable of and how it shapes your self esteem. This directly impacts your self confidence and overall sense of self worth. Discover how to nurture your inner value and believe in yourself to enhance your sense of identity. In this insightful video, I delve into the fascinating world of self-perception, self-esteem, and identity, unveiling how our experiences shape these fundamental aspects of ourselves. Utilising principles from neuroscience and exploring the relationship between the conscious and subconscious mind, I provide invaluable insights to help you understand and redefine your self-image.Our brains constantly try to make sense of the world, forming narratives based on our experiences. From a young age, our neural pathways strengthen with each significant event, leading to deeply ingrained beliefs and stories about ourselves. This self-definition affects how we perceive challenges and interact with others, influencing our lives in ways we often don't realise.I reveal how our subconscious mind plays a crucial role in shaping our self-image, managing multiple processes simultaneously, and influencing our behaviour and choices. By understanding the power of these subconscious narratives, we can empower ourselves to challenge and redefine our identities.Do you want to know how to achieve your goals? Do you lack the enthusiasm or energy to go for the things that, apparently, you would like to achieve? The stories that run inside our minds frame every choice we make. They dictate whether or not we think we shall succeed, the outcomes we aim for, and the enthusiasm and energy we expend. They define what we attempt to do and what we see the results of. We deduce what we are capable of.When our imagination conflicts with our will, willpower alone rarely beats imagination. When we think we can, we do. When we think we can't, we don't (or we procrastinate). The fixed ideas in our subconscious lead us inexorably towards our expectations. Ultimately, we get better at what we are passionate about because we practice a lot. The motivation to practice comes from focus and belief: where focus flows, energy goes. That all begins with the fixed ideas of our mind."Whether you think you can or you think you can't, either way, you are right" (Henry Ford). Join me as we explore the depths of the human mind and unlock the keys to personal growth, increased self-awareness, and a transformed sense of self. This video clarifies the reasons behind my focus on difficult topics like shame and guilt, explaining that these serve as entry points to a deeper level of understanding and to embracing ourselves. It's not just about the dark side; it's about the self awareness that comes from it, and personal growth. Dive in to uncover the real purpose behind the psychology explored in previous videos.Have you ever really considered your inner thoughts, where they come from, and how and why they act the way they do? Have you ever asked them what age they might be, their fears and needs, and perhaps most intriguingly of all, considered where is the "you" behind the noise?Clinical studies show from a very, very early age, infants are already playing out the roles of various parts inside of themselves. It seems an intrinsically human and relatable aspect to ourselves that we divide our thoughts into "parts", each with its own persona. We identify more or less with each of these parts depending upon circumstance and the stories running inside our heads, and the end result delivers an understanding of what we think we are.If you can begin to unmask the hidden selves and get to know them, it can trigger an extraordinarily fulfilling journey of self-discovery.This video discusses the fascinating aspect of the human psyche that has become known as "Internal Family Systems" (IFS). However, IFS could equally be thought of as a city of individuals residing inside our heads who somehow find equilibrium. I discuss managers, firefighters, and exiles who each support and police our psyche differently and become unwittingly burdened by responsibilities they perceive as their "job." I also show you how to unmask the self and take steps towards becoming the director of your own internal perceptions and observations. Our lives are filled with experiences that mould our perceptions and beliefs about ourselves and the world around us. From childhood to adulthood, our playful, curious, and approval-seeking sides encounter societal expectations and norms that can stifle their expression. Over time, these expectations create a push-and-pull within us, with certain identities taking on managerial roles to maintain our public personas. As we explore this struggle between our internal parts, we discover that the joyful, light aspects of ourselves are often forced into "exile," suppressed by the darker, more socially acceptable sides. By examining the root causes of this turmoil and questioning the beliefs we've internalised, we begin to understand the true nature of our feelings. In this video, you will uncover how societal influences have shaped your understanding of what is "appropriate" behavior, limiting your most vibrant and authentic self. We will dissect how experiences in our formative years affect our actions, choices, and emotions in our daily lives.Join me on a thought-provoking and insightful journey toward self-awareness, self-acceptance, and personal growth. By exploring the darker and lighter aspects of our identities, we embark on a path to healing, freedom, and, ultimately, a more integrated self.[The audio quality dips between 06:50 & 07:20, my apologies!]#selfdiscovery #personalgrowth #innerlight #emotionalintelligence
Conquering fears that are preventing you from doing what you want is possible! It's time to address those limiting beliefs and take action. This motivational video will guide you to achieve personal growth by understanding how to overcome fear.Fear is one of the most common obstacles to success. In this video, I'll show you how to overcome fear using the techniques that have worked for me. Whether you're facing a new challenge or a difficult situation, these tips will help you take control and reach your goals!Fear is anxiety about a potential future; it's not occurring now. So fear is unsolvable: you can't intellectualise it away. Just knowing that can be freeing because it leads to the conclusion that you must do something other than mental preparation: you must act. Fears go away after you take a step forward, not just by preparing to take a step forward. If you want to bust your fears right open, look at these tips. Drawing on Susan Jeffers' renowned book Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway, I distill the core message into actionable advice for overcoming the fear that so often keeps us stagnant.Fear is a protective response that arises from anticipated scenarios and can be hard to resolve in the present moment. However, in situations of immediate danger, we often shift into a problem-solving mode, indicating that fear is a complex emotion rather than a straightforward response to danger.I argue that preparation alone cannot quell fear; action is the key to overcoming it. By taking small steps toward the feared action, we can reduce fear by recognising that the most extreme fears are unlikely to occur.Drawing parallels to everyday risks, I emphasise that the potential benefits often outweigh the fear. To make progress, one must confront their fears head-on, as taking action is the antidote to fear. Inaction results in continued anxiety, while taking steps toward a goal can lead to a successful outcome or valuable lessons for the future.Join me as we explore practical strategies for dismantling fear and striving towards our aspirations through deliberate steps. Reflecting on self-esteem, this episode uses a stunning sandstone arch as a powerful metaphor. I blend personal thoughts with breathtaking scenery, offering inspiration and life lessons from nature. Explore personal growth by understanding the beauty around you.Would you like to improve your sense of your own worth? Self-esteem drives self-confidence, and so it can shape the actions you take (or don't), your perception, and, therefore, pretty much your whole life. In this thought-provoking video, we delve into the realm of self-esteem and the significance of self-acceptance. Drawing from Nathaniel Branden's work, I explore the challenges many face in their quest for self-worth and confront the feelings of inadequacy and shame that often hinder our progress.Through a series of introspective questions, such as "If you really knew me, you'd know that…", we uncover the hidden aspects of ourselves that may have been buried due to fear or shame. This eye-opening exercise helps us recognise our uniqueness and prompts us to ask ourselves crucial questions: Do I believe in my uniqueness? Can I accept and embrace it?A central theme of the video is the importance of relinquishing our ego to better understand our self-worth. By validating our emotions and experiences, we can break free from the chains of guilt and learn to adapt this belief for ourselves, just as we do for others.Furthermore, we discuss the transformative power of confronting our self-perceptions by examining the aspects of ourselves that we may dislike or find disappointing. As we write these thoughts down and challenge ourselves to reframe negative perceptions, we embark on a path of self-discovery and acceptance. In conclusion, the path to self-esteem involves acknowledging and embracing our individuality, reframing negative beliefs, and fostering an appreciation for genuine self-expression. By doing so, we not only deepen our connections with others but also cultivate a sense of self-acceptance that will serve as the foundation for a more fulfilling life. This video will offer suggestions on how to get back on track, understand and lift your self-esteem, and challenge the fixed ideas that are holding you back. In this video, I delve into the powerful topic of overcoming internal stories that often hold us back from pursuing our goals. I address a common phenomenon many of us experience: the tendency to tell ourselves self-limiting stories. These narratives, such as "I’m too old," "It will take too long," or "I should have started earlier," can serve as comfortable excuses that prevent us from taking action toward our aspirations.Dive into the stories that sabotage your progress, often fueled by limiting beliefs and negative self talk. It's time to recognize these cognitive distortions and strive for personal growth. Start your transformative journey today! In reality, these stories are emotional crutches to keep us within our comfort zone. Regardless of age or stage in life, everyone has the same amount of time to work with. Rather than dwelling on what could have been, I encourage viewers to let go of the past and focus on taking steps toward their goals. Instead of dwelling on setbacks, you can always laugh about them and view them as a learning experience. It's important to adopt a benevolent, workable mindset in the face of adversity. When we begin each day with the expectation that challenges may arise but see them as adventures rather than obstacles, mistakes become stepping stones to progress rather than sources of self-blame. Ultimately, letting go of negative narratives can lead to greater fulfilment in our pursuits. Guilt and shame can trap us in our own vice (literally and metaphorically!). But here's the thing: they can be helpful guides if we use them as a messenger to know ourselves better and take action. The problem is that shame often concerns unspeakable taboos, which are tricky to discuss. As such, we barely consider if we deserve the shame we feel; we don't hear other points of view, and it just feels like "us". But we can be badly misinformed. If you feel overwhelmed, trapped or suffocated by guilt and shame, I hope this might be helpful. My approach to emotions is rooted in the belief that every feeling is valid, sound, and serves a purpose. Emotions can be thought of as messengers knocking at our door, asking us to recognise and understand them. By embracing this perspective, we can view emotions not as good or bad but as opportunities for growth and self-discovery. Let's explore guilt and shame in more depth. Guilt stems from the recognition of having made a mistake, prompting corrective action. This can be constructive, helping us learn and improve ourselves. Shame, however, takes this further by suggesting that we are inherently wrong. While it can motivate change, questioning the origins and meanings we assign to shame is crucial for personal growth. Although shame can be a valid emotion, it's important to give ourselves permission to question its correctness.Imagine yourself as a young child, even before your earliest memories. At this vulnerable stage, your sense of self, values, and understanding of right and wrong begin developing. As a child, making mistakes was met with reactions from parents, teachers, and authority figures, shaping your understanding of acceptable behaviour and, ultimately, your personality.Recognising that these authority figures were operating from their own beliefs and experiences, influenced by their backgrounds and fears, highlights how our early lessons on safety and behaviour shape our adult lives.Reflecting on emotions like guilt and shame can help us gain insight into our behaviours and beliefs. We can challenge internalised feelings and understand their origins, transforming negative emotions into catalysts for positive change and personal growth.I hope this video encourages you to reevaluate your emotions and foster a healthier relationship with guilt and shame. Discovering the Pitfalls of Toxic Positivity in a Social Media World - An insightful perspective on the flip side of the "think positive" mantra! This video delves into the pitfalls of toxic positive psychology, especially as portrayed on social media, reflecting an unrealistic perspective. We explore how these portrayals can be harmful to mental health, encouraging viewers to distinguish between genuine positivity and relentless optimism. It's important to practice radical acceptance of our emotions, not just sending out positivity. Many people know about toxic negativity: where focus goes, energy flows, so the more we focus on the negativity, the more we experience it all around us. But are you tuned in to toxic positivity? Today, I'm diving deep into a topic that might initially sound strange - toxic positivity. Yes, positivity can be toxic, and this is a concept I've personally experienced in the vast realm of social media. While toxic negativity, where focusing on problems magnifies them, is a well-known concept, the less-discussed toxic positivity can be equally damaging. It involves dismissing genuine emotional experiences and can create a sense of inadequacy. Join me as we discuss:✅ The truth behind those seemingly "higher vibrational frequency" posts✅ The importance of owning and accepting all emotions - the good, the bad, and the grumpy ✅ How to combat feelings of inadequacy in a world filled with constant positivity ✅ Embracing life's imperfections and acknowledging the authenticity of every experience ✅ Finding true fulfilment and self-acceptance If you've ever felt like you "should" be happier or that something is wrong because you're not always operating at a "higher vibrational frequency," this video is for you. Consider the possibility: The more you prime yourself with positive mantras toward future riches, partners, business ventures or other forms of abundance, the more you may be reminding yourself of what you don't have today. What a mind-bender. What on earth to do?Mantras can work if you habituate them into your daily reality, but if you often push against yourself, or your inner chatter is constantly reminding you of positive nonsense that doesn't gel with your truth, it is time to take stock. The back of your mind will always identify an incongruent veil of nonsensical optimism! Let's break down the walls of toxic positivity together and learn to embrace the authentic you! Want to talk? Conquer Your Inner Control Freak and Relax, There's Peace in Uncertainty :)In this video, we'll discuss what it means to be a control freak and how to relax. Start your day right by learning to loosen the grip of your inner control freak and cultivating more inner peace. This video shares simple tips and insights for achieving better emotional control by tapping into mindfulness. Embrace the morning sun and beautiful landscape while exploring how to let go and achieve stress relief. Are you desperately spinning countless plates simultaneously & trying to stop one from crashing to the floor? Are your radars on high alert for unexpected events? Do you need to calm down and relax? In this insightful video, we delve into the world of the "inner control freak" and explore the relentless pursuit of control many of us experience. Together, we'll uncover the reasons behind our desire to micromanage situations and the underlying fears that fuel this behaviour.Through self-reflection and understanding, we'll discover how our past experiences shape our present need for control. By tracing our earliest memories of feeling helpless or caught off guard, we can begin to recognise the roots of our controlling tendencies. But the true power comes from learning to let go. The more you try to control everything, the more exhausted you become. Proper control comes from handling things as they come, in the best way you can, in the moment. It's about being adaptable and resilient, not rigid and unyielding. And so paradoxically, the only way to feel in control is to release our grip on it. Accepting life's unpredictability is the key to finding inner peace and easing the burden of constant vigilance. To achieve this, we'll discuss the importance of nurturing your "inner child" – the part of you that feels insecure or fearful due to past experiences. By providing love and reassurance to this inner self, we can build a foundation of security, enabling us to handle life’s uncertainties with confidence.Join me as we embark on a journey of self-discovery, reflection, and empowerment. This video will provide valuable insights and practical tools to help you navigate life's uncertainties, relinquish the need for control, and embrace the freedom that comes with it.Don't miss out on this transformative opportunity to cultivate a healthier relationship with uncertainty and create a life filled with ease and confidence. The video was taken at Dead Horse Point near Moab, Utah. Beyond Small Talk: The Power of Authentic Communication. Are You Playing Games With People, Or Are They Playing Games With You?Do you find yourself sometimes getting caught up in drama? Do you wander off on autopilot, trying to score points against others whilst wondering why? Do you have script-like expectations of how your life will probably turn out? Are you playing games to avoid dealing with difficult situations? In our day-to-day interactions, we often fall into patterns of "games people play." We assume roles and partake in superficial conversations to avoid discomfort or vulnerability. In this video, I delve into the topic of transactional analysis and explore how these "games" impact our ability to connect authentically with others.During a recent networking event, I couldn't help but notice how many attendees defaulted to surface-level exchanges, resorting to games like small talk to avoid more meaningful interactions. We tend to hide behind our job titles or discuss mundane topics, rarely sharing our true thoughts and feelings. But why?My observation sparks a discussion on why individuals engage in such behaviour, exploring underlying psychological factors and social dynamics. He touches upon psychology to examine these interactions, aiming to foster self-awareness. Addressing human nature, I provide life lessons on understanding these social patterns. As Eric Berne’s "Games People Play" suggests, these roles offer a sense of safety, a way to navigate social situations without addressing deeper issues. While this may feel comfortable, it often leaves us craving more.Marshall Rosenberg’s "Nonviolent Communication" offers an alternative approach: engaging in genuine conversations that allow us to express our authentic selves. I yearn for interactions that spark joy, curiosity, and friendship—the kind that make networking events and social gatherings truly memorable. While the inclination to play it safe is natural, it’s time to challenge ourselves to go beyond the script. Let's create spaces where people can share meaningful aspects of themselves, fostering genuine connections rather than settling for surface-level exchanges. My goal is to encourage vulnerability and inspire us to explore what truly drives each person. This will lead to a deeper understanding of one another. Together, we can move beyond transactional analysis and superficial games and embrace more authentic interactions that lead to meaningful relationships.Want to talk? This video explores how psychological fallacies and illusions are tied to our fears, and how the stories we tell ourselves shape our anxieties. By understanding these cognitive biases, we can begin to improve our decision making and challenge the stories we tell ourselves. In this discussion, I delve into the captivating world of psychological fallacies, exploring their deep-rooted connection to our fears and the narratives we construct within our minds. I aim to empower you with the necessary tools to gain perspective, enabling you to maintain a healthy distance from the thoughts that often falsely define our sense of self. I pose an intriguing question: Do we genuinely choose our thoughts?I suggest that thoughts arise from the depths of our subconscious. The brain functions as a "risk management machine," inherently wired to generate cautionary thoughts to ensure our survival. To exemplify the profound impact of fears and psychological illusions, I share a personal story from a hiking expedition in Sedona—a breathtaking landscape often marred by swarms of visitors. In my quest for solitude and challenging terrains, I decided to venture off-trail, and it is here that my tale unfolds.Despite being well-prepared with ample water and navigational tools, I stumbled upon a path adorned with warning signs indicating potential danger for inexperienced hikers. I pondered my preparedness, taking a moment to consult my map, which clearly outlined the route and indicated a scenic loop promising a return to my starting point. However, as I hiked onward, as time passed, and my phone battery waned, a nagging sense of anxiety began to rise within me. An earlier interaction with a passing driver who had kindly offered additional water now haunted my thoughts, and I began questioning my initial confidence in rejecting their offer. The unfolding events served as a testament to the potent effect of fear and the stories we construct within our minds.Through sharing my story, I seek to underscore the critical importance of reframing our thoughts surrounding risks and challenges and to highlight the role of self-awareness and preparation in mitigating the psychological illusions that fear can create. As I reflect on my journey, I encourage you to embrace a new perspective that acknowledges the intertwining of caution and adventure in our experiences, challenging our fears and the underlying narratives that breathe life into them.Want to talk? Have you ever struggled with chronic background anger that unexpectedly erupts into uncontrollable rage? Does your anger negatively impact your relationships and personal happiness? In this compelling talk about anger management, we use the metaphor of a prickly tree to illustrate the nature of anger and explore practical strategies for turning anger into a positive force for change. All emotions, including anger, are valid and carry important messages. When anger arises, it's like a persistent knock on the door that demands attention. If we choose to ignore these emotions, they can escalate into increasingly severe reactions. The intensity of our anger often correlates with our levels of background dissatisfaction, stemming from external factors like unmet expectations or internal conflicts like feelings of inadequacy, fear, and self-dislike.One source of background dissatisfaction is the discrepancy between where we believe we should be and our current situation. These unmet expectations can lead to frustration, disappointment, and anger. By acknowledging these external factors and understanding their impact on our emotional well-being, we can develop healthier coping mechanisms and build emotional resilience.Internal conflicts arise when we harbour negative feelings about ourselves. These internal struggles can cause us to create a façade while concealing our genuine emotions. Addressing these internal fears and insecurities is crucial in managing our anger effectively. To turn anger into a positive force for change, we must be willing to self-reflect and address external challenges and internal conflicts. By exploring the sources of our dissatisfaction and examining the personal narratives that contribute to our emotional responses, we can begin to heal and grow.Instead of perceiving explosive anger as a negative experience, we should see it as a valuable message from ourselves, indicating a need for change. Recognising the significance of these emotional signals before they reach a point of destruction can help us navigate our emotions more constructively and find greater peace in our lives. If you’re ready to embark on a journey of self-discovery and personal growth, join me in exploring the transformative power of understanding, managing, and embracing anger. Embracing Insecurity: Finding Power in VulnerabilityIn this video, I delve into the complexities of insecurity, a topic that emerged from a thought-provoking comment on one of my previous videos. The comment suggested that my sharing of personal insights was driven by insecurity and the need for external validation. It led me to reflect deeply on the nature of insecurity and vulnerability and their role in our lives.I'll admit that I've often hesitated to share content on platforms like YouTube, fearing that it would be attention-seeking and driven by insecurity. However, I've come to realise that discussing insecurities is crucial because they're a fundamental part of our humanity.Insecurities can manifest in various aspects of our lives, and everyone has them to some extent. Yet, they're often seen as a taboo topic, swept under the rug. However, acknowledging and exploring our insecurities can foster self-understanding and help us form deeper connections with others.I've contemplated the distinction between insecurities and vulnerabilities. While I'm still figuring it out, I believe these qualities are inherently precious, like a form of inner beauty—subtle yet profound. They're raw, delicate parts of ourselves that, when shared, can create powerful connections. It's important to remember that having insecurities isn't a failure; it's a common human experience. Even when we resolve certain insecurities, new ones can arise. They're an ever-evolving aspect of our lives. What's more, vulnerability can create meaningful connections. We become more relatable when we show our vulnerable side, fostering empathy and understanding.I acknowledge that interpretations of my content can vary. My intention isn't to dictate how others should live but to share personal insights and spark introspection. In conclusion, I encourage you to embrace insecurities as part of the human experience. I'm thrilled to share my insights on the transformative power of forgiveness. This video offers a unique perspective on how forgiveness can bring peace and inner healing. Through understanding and empathy, forgiveness can become a tool for personal growth rather than a gesture for someone else. Many struggle with forgiveness, believing it means excusing or condoning hurtful actions. But what if I told you that forgiveness is an act of self-care? In this video, I delve into why holding onto anger and resentment only perpetuates our suffering. I like to think of suffering as pain plus resistance; when we resist forgiveness, we amplify the pain.Forgiveness is acknowledging that someone's actions have caused us harm while allowing us to learn and grow from the experience. It involves empathising with the person's actions without necessarily excusing them. This helps us regain our inner balance and prevents our energy from being consumed by negative emotions. But how do we know if someone "deserves" forgiveness? The truth is, forgiveness isn't about them – it's about us. By forgiving, we free ourselves from carrying around anger and bitterness. It's about returning our power and investing our energy into personal growth instead.Reflecting on our own actions can be a powerful way to cultivate compassion. How often have we reacted without thinking or made choices based on our experiences, values, and context? Recognising our shared humanity and fallibility can help us extend grace to ourselves and others.Forgiveness is letting go, freeing ourselves from the weight of past grievances and fostering healing. By embracing this perspective on forgiveness, you can embark on a journey toward inner peace, personal growth, and self-healing.Want to talk? In this thought-provoking episode, we delve into the depths of human psychology, exploring the hidden parts of ourselves that often remain shrouded in darkness. As the famous psychoanalyst Carl Jung once said, "One does not become enlightened by considering figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious." This statement begs the question: why do certain aspects of ourselves linger in the shadows of our unconscious mind? From an early age, we learn to identify and amplify the parts of ourselves that society deems acceptable while suppressing those that are not. This behaviour stems from our innate need for safety, approval, and love from our caregivers and community. Initially, this repression serves as a protective mechanism, as our survival heavily depends on the support of others. However, as we grow older, this habit becomes deeply ingrained, almost automatic, leading to a limited understanding of our true selves. While we may be aware of some undesirable traits within ourselves, we often ignore them, fearing rejection or shame. This internal conflict results in a distorted self-image, where parts of us feel unacceptable or shameful, leading us to believe that certain aspects are best left concealed.Hiding these traits can create a sense of disconnection from our authentic selves. For some, this manifests as a significant moment of reckoning known as the "dark night of the soul," others may experience a persistent, nagging doubt, sensing that they are not living authentically.Jung proposes that we must confront and acknowledge these repressed parts of ourselves to achieve personal growth and understanding. We tend to suppress these elements due to societal norms and the fear of disapproval, leading us to believe these traits are severely flawed or dangerous. This fear of the unknown aspects of ourselves can evoke feelings of inadequacy and a constant need for external validation. The challenge is to realize that seeking validation from others often leads us to present a facade that is not true to who we are. This projection can become manipulative and inauthentic as we seek acceptance from the world around us.Ultimately, the video emphasises the importance of exploring our shadows to fully understand ourselves. By accepting these hidden aspects, we can free ourselves from the constraints of societal expectations, paving the way for a more authentic existence. Embracing our whole, including the parts we may find uncomfortable, is crucial for personal growth, self-acceptance, and living a more fulfilling life."One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light but by making the darkness conscious." - Carl Jung#ShadowWork #Authenticity #PersonalGrowth #CarlJung
In this thought-provoking episode, I explore human needs and values and how they shape our behavior and choices in life. Many of us go through life on autopilot, unaware of the forces that drive us. Examining our needs and values can provide a powerful tool for introspection and improve our decision-making processes. We kick off the discussion by exploring human needs, drawing parallels to Maslow's hierarchy of needs. At the base of the pyramid, we have our basic physiological needs, such as sustenance and safety. However, as we traverse higher up the pyramid, our needs become more abstract, encompassing aspects of spirituality and self-actualisation.To provide a unique perspective on human needs, we turn to Tony Robbins' framework, which highlights how some needs can conflict. According to Robbins, there are six key human needs that we must strive to balance:Security: This need encompasses the desire for safety and stability, including financial security, shelter, and protection.Variety: To escape monotony and boredom, we seek stimulation and change, which inherently involves a certain degree of risk.Significance: Our desire to feel unique and important and to have a voice that contributes meaningfully to the world is deeply rooted in us.Connection: As social beings, we crave love, community, and sharing. However, too much significance can lead to isolation, and a strong connection to a community may dilute our sense of individuality.Finding a balance between security and variety, significance and connection, requires self-awareness and understanding our personal preferences along these spectrums.Once we grasp these four foundational needs, we can reflect on two higher needs that can elevate our lives:Growth: This need revolves around personal development, learning, and self-discovery, which help us become the best versions of ourselves.Contribution: Serving others and society at large gives us a sense of fulfillment and purpose that transcends our own needs. As we wrap up our exploration of needs, we begin discussing values, the principles and beliefs we hold dear. Our values guide our decisions and priorities, and they can differ in importance across various aspects of our lives—work, family, and relationships.By understanding our human needs and values comprehensively, we can develop a profound sense of self-awareness that empowers us to make conscious choices and navigate life's complexities more effectively. With this deep insight, we can illuminate the intricate interplay between our life experiences and core beliefs, ultimately leading us to more fulfilling and purposeful lives.Want to talk? Today, we’re discussing something that I and countless others have struggled with: procrastination. What we often don't realise is that procrastination isn't simply about a lack of motivation—it’s about our subconscious mind protecting us from what it perceives as danger. This video offers a different perspective on procrastination, helping you understand and unravel the underlying narratives that lead to avoidance behaviours. Procrastination isn't just a time management issue; it's a symptom of something deeper.Throughout this discussion, you will learn about two main reasons why we soothe ourselves during times of procrastination. One reason could be that we are addicted to the comfortable and familiar. Another, and more importantly, the reason may stem from a subconscious fear of catastrophic outcomes associated with the task at hand. Our past experiences often shape our present fears and lead us to adopt avoidance tactics. We explore the idea that our imagination is far more powerful than our willpower. When vivid narratives about potential failures or negative outcomes play out in our minds, they can inhibit our ability to take action, no matter how much we desire to pursue the task. So, how do we tackle procrastination? It starts by questioning the fears driving our avoidance behaviours. We look at ways to trace these fears back to their origins and assess whether they remain valid today. By continually questioning these fears, we can see errors in our thinking and adopt different behaviours.Ultimately, overcoming procrastination isn't about finding the perfect productivity hack or time management technique. It's about embarking on an introspective journey, understanding our fears, and learning to confront them. This video provides strategies and tools to help you recognise, understand, and overcome the subconscious narratives that drive your procrastination behaviours. By understanding the 'why' behind your actions, you'll be better equipped to move away from avoidance strategies towards fulfilling your goals.Remember, overcoming procrastination is a journey that starts with awareness.
