Description
Being “Just Dumb Enough” is all about being okay with yourself, and the situation you find yourself in, after you bring up a topic in front of a real expert.
My name is Colton Petry, I am the Host of the Just Dumb Enough Podcast, and I‘m your professional idiot.
The premise of the show is exposing the general listening audience to topics, careers, experiences, or lifestyles they may otherwise know very little about.

I'm fairly certain that our mental image of a maximum security prison doesn't involve mentor programs, book club, and cognitive therapy; And yet, that is exactly what my expert today has introduced as a new style of Prison Reform.
Welcome to the Just Dumb Enough Podcast. A show that acknowledges no one is always an expert, by dispelling misconceptions with real experts.
My guest today is Dr Kim Nugent. Kim has worked to propagate mentor programs in all avenues of life, or so she thought until she was approached to write a peer mentor guide for convicted criminals with hefty felony sentences. Join us as she explains the story that brought her program to life, the ways it can truly save the lives of people who need a second chance, and how this might actually benefit your small or large business.

Let's advocate for prison reform!
If anyone out there knows a warden, or veteran corrections officer, or experienced department of justice worker: I would love to get them on the show for a deeper dive on prisons and what isn't common knowledge. The same goes for anyone who served a long stent in prison, as I think both sides of the situation have valuable experience.

There are only a couple people in the world who give me voice envy, but our expert today is one of them. And even with me saying that, he doesn't believe his own voice is truly radio ready.
Welcome to the Just Dumb Enough Podcast. A show that acknowledges no one is always an expert, by dispelling misconceptions with real experts.
My guest today is Mike Sealy. Mike is a wonderful man with almost three decades of experience in building people up. Despite this, Mike still suffered from Imposter Syndrome when promoted to a new level. It's nothing to be embarrassed about, as every human since the dawn of time has probably felt it at least once, and it will undoubtably outlast us all. So stick around and let Mike use his cheerful voice to charm you out of feeling like a failure.
Also! The People's Choice Podcast Awards have announce I am in the top 10 slate for Society and Culture. That itself is a huge honor, and I cannot wait to find out how I stack up against the very high profile competition there.

Let's stop being imposters!
This has actually been a really big month for imposter syndrome for me. Along with the award nominations, and all the travel, I've also started an Instagram art account that has blown up! It certainly makes me feel like I'm not supposed to be surrounded by the people I am, but I'm thankful for the friends and fans who have kept me grounded and grateful!
In ranking news... August is here, and the global ranks are now as follows:

4. Ireland

It's no secret that those we consider necessary for a high quality of life, from paramedics to teachers, either work a very short amount of time before flaming out; or sacrifice everything else in their life so they can keep picking up the pieces for everyone else, while neglecting their own.
Welcome to the Just Dumb Enough Podcast. A show that acknowledges no one is always an expert, by dispelling misconceptions with real experts.
My guest today is Irene Cop. Dr. Cop holds dual provider degrees and has suffered first-hand when it comes to the devastation of flaming out. She's here to share her story, what the helper field is looking like right now, and how we can potentially avoid the titanic vs iceberg moment that is not far out.
Also, this is the last week to make your voice heard when you vote for Just Dumb Enough in the People's Choice Podcast Awards. You can list me as your favorite podcast influence, choose this show for podcast of the year, or for best society and culture podcast. When I think of an easy instrument: The very last thing I think of is a piano, and most of you out there would probably think the same... Except for maybe the Unipiper, but he's not our topic. Instead I have an expert who insists that absolutely everyone can play the ivory keys.
Welcome to the Just Dumb Enough Podcast. A show that acknowledges no one is always an expert, by dispelling misconceptions with real experts.
My guest today is Sonny Stancarone. Sonny has been working alongside great pianists for over half a century now, and he's here to share how the piano is not only easy, but therapeutic; introducing what he calls "Piano Yoga".
We had a lot of audio issues in this interview, and you'll notice some background noise that even Sonny tries to shush, but I've done my very best to eliminate as many intrusions as possible; for your listening pleasure.
Also, there is two more weeks to make your voice heard when you vote for Just Dumb Enough in the People's Choice Podcast Awards. Up top, I promise that this episode is not more politicized dribble. I hear it everywhere, every day, and I just will not make room for it in this show. Instead we'll be discussing the candidates who are so often looked over.
Welcome to the Just Dumb Enough Podcast. A show that acknowledges no one is always an expert, by dispelling misconceptions with real experts.
My guest today is David DeLong. David is on a mission to show the US, and by proxy other countries, that we do not have the labor shortage that we think we do; by introducing us to alternative options.
For example: 1 in 8 adult men in the US has been convicted of a felony, and that history alone eliminates you in most job application software. However, a one-time offender (with more than five years since release) is statistically far less likely to break the law or be arrested than any other employee in the company.
So let's reevaluate the opinion with this new data: Maybe you want more people with one-off convictions in your company, since they are likely safer and less likely to leave your team if given a chance.

So what do you think after hearing this? Would you advocate for any of the previous people to join your team? Why or why not?
In ranking news... July is upon us, and the global ranks are as follows:

Welcome to the Just Dumb Enough Podcast. A show that acknowledges no one is always an expert, by dispelling misconceptions with real experts.
My guest today is Deborah Mallow. This living ray of sunshine wants us to all be as happy as possible. As a positive energy coach, Deborah always has a smile and a warm outlook, even when we are both suffering from allergies like we were during the interview.

The ever-present and always hot button issue here in the US: Immigration. Be it legal, illegal, or historical; we just can't seem to stop arguing over it. For that reason, we're joined today by someone who grew up in a split migrant family, who can give us some honest perspective.
Welcome to the Just Dumb Enough Podcast. A show that acknowledges no one is always an expert, by dispelling misconceptions with real experts.
My guest today is Lupe Christensen. Lupe was without a father or mother for most of her first decade of life; because they were forced to flee their home country to try and provide the minimal quality of life for their children. And as with many immigration topics, so often it is boiled down to what is illegally happening at the southern boarder; but the truth is that American citizens are truly struggling with some of the same problems just trying to bring their legal spouses and children into the states.

Hopefully this has opened your eyes a bit, if you've never considered the contained lifestyle. I know so many of us today have friends that are immigrants from one country or another, and it can be very hard.

I'm certainly not educated well enough to say what exactly has led to the dramatic reductions in global testosterone levels, be it plastics, sugars, antibiotics, processed chemicals, or whatever else. However, my guest today is a hormone replacement expert, so we'll find out together!
Welcome to the Just Dumb Enough Podcast. A show that acknowledges no one is always an expert, by dispelling misconceptions with real experts.
My guest today is Susie Bell. Susie has over three decades of experience helping patients, many of whom struggle to keep their natural hormones in check as the years go on. For women, it's widely acknowledged to be an issue around menopause; but for men, it can happen in your late teens! That's a shock, but so are the many messages that you'll hear actually explained when we give the topic room to explain itself.
Thank you so much to everyone in Japan who made the first international tour such an absolute blast! I've never felt 16 days go by so quickly, and I feel I could have spent another hundred days without issue. Hopefully I get to do even more of those big tours in the coming months and years.

Let's fix our imbalances without shame!
As mentioned in the interview, I do know many young men with low Testosterone levels, and that includes myself. Before my father passed away, he and I compared our levels to find that they were almost identical despite being 25 years apart.

We can never seem to stay away from sad topics for too long on this podcast, but I always look at them as a way to help this community prepare and heal from all that sadness that we usually suffer alone. So, be sure to take some notes.
Welcome to the Just Dumb Enough Podcast. A show that acknowledges no one is always an expert, by dispelling misconceptions with real experts.
My guest today is Jean Alfieri. Jean is also known as "The Dog Author" because of her numerous books revolving around man's best friend. But pet grief can come in all shapes and sizes, from furry to scaled, and it can be one of the hardest losses in a world where your companion might be the only constant... And if it's not obvious: both Jean and I have shed quite a few tears between recording and editing this episode, so don't be ashamed to do the same.

Very seldom do we see all of the religions of the world culminate in one modern idea; and even less frequent is it directly tied to the science of the mind.

My guest today is Jason Gibler. Jason has combined age old spiritual traditions from every major culture with the cutting edge study of clinical psychotherapy. After three and a half years of doing this show at least once a week, I think I've found what might be the most difficult skill to learn; as it took our expert today over seven years of one on one study with a lifetime master of the craft before he was able to attempt it on his own.
Welcome to the Just Dumb Enough Podcast. A show that acknowledges no one is always an expert, by dispelling misconceptions with real experts.
My guest today is Gerard Wouters. Gerard is a Dutch Taoist, which sounds about as statistically unlikely as it is. But he found that Taoism gave him a very clear path to both physically and mentally treat his clients for the last 30 years. We dive into what Tao is, the meaning behind Yin/Yang, and what this practice has that is so commonly mistaken for other beliefs or religions, when Tao itself does not worship anything at all. Mr. Wouters is also not a native English speaker, but I think he does a great job all the same.

When I hear the word "Prayer": I immediately think of a catholic mass in a regal church, or a solemn beg for more time from a sick person. But our guest today says that it doesn't even need to be specific to any religion in order to heal what ails you.
Welcome to the Just Dumb Enough Podcast. A show that acknowledges no one is always an expert, by dispelling misconceptions with real experts.
My guest today is Beatty Carmichael. Coming from a medical family, Beatty wanted to find where science applied itself to what he saw as a higher power of the universe. Much like gravity, he found that prayer works on a set of principles with very specific vernacular that needed to be followed. Now he's here to show us how this scientific prayer has helped 90% of his consults to recover when everything else failed.

Let's find the spiritual algorithm of the Gods.
Feel Free to try for yourself:
Step 1. “Dear God, I want to get rid of this _____; and if there is a spiritual root at the bottom of it: I ask that you reveal it to me now. Reveal any sin I need to repent of, or any person that I need to forgive.”
Step 2. “I Repent of ____ with ____” or “I forgive ____ for _____”
If your apology involved another person “I break all unholy soul ties with, and release all judgements against those people I named.”
Step 3. “And now, God, I ask that you remove my ____. Take it to zero, right now.”
Talking to the issue: “____, In God’s Name: I command you to leave, go out now.”
I find this fascinating that it comes from a nearly agnostic principle, and seems to work for anyone. I tried it with Beatty and found some temporary success in alleviating pain in my back. Maybe I need to work at it more to make it consistent?
In ranking news... April is now over, and the monthly rankings are all set:
1. The United States, with California, Oregon, and Washington; now in that order.
2. England of the United Kingdom.
3. Australia, with Queensland just one listener over New South Wales and a handful over Victoria.
4. Canada, with Ontario almost losing to British Columbia right at the end.
5. Hong Kong, barely holding out against New Zealand.

It's your favorite professional idiot, Colton Petry.
I'm just dropping a little surprise announcement that I will be touring in Japan in May of 2025.
And some might ask, why Japan? Why not Magunka county?
The answer to that is two fold. Number one, I've always wanted to visit Japan to tour the shrines and temples. Number two, I guess they just care to see me more than you do... or are at least more verbal about it. Hint hint!
So for all of the listeners in Japan: come and hang out with me when I come through your area!
Tokyo - May 18th to 22nd
Nikko - May 23rd and 24th
Kyoto - May 25th to 28th
Osaka - May 29th and 30th
Okinawa - May 31st to June 3rd
I look forward to meeting all of you, and cannot wait to have an absolute blast in the land of the rising sun.
More tour dates to follow as I know Austin Texas and Atlanta Georgia have trips in the works!
If you're not in any of those places, shoot me an email or message on social media, and we'll see about having me drop by!
Stay dumb everyone!
Colton Petry

3. Australia, with Queensland barely leading New South Wales and Victoria.
4. Canada, with Ontario still on top.
5. Hong Kong, keeping Israel down.

Taking quotes out of context is a favorite pastime from both news agencies and trolls worldwide. I think one of my out of context quotes went: "You're going to be punished for having a moment of space to breathe." And while that's hard to decipher, truly inspiring quotes are much better.
Welcome to the Just Dumb Enough Podcast. A show that acknowledges no one is always an expert, by dispelling misconceptions with real experts.
My guest today is Tom Hagerty. Tom spent most of his life as a corporate executive, avid quote collector, and frequent quote user; much to his children's dismay. He's compiled a book of quotes and essays from a boatload of historical icons, all of whom had spectacular success in their field; even if they weren't always widely loved. He's here today to show us how these quote apply to both: Professional business, and your personal relationships.

Let's get out of context.
And the thing this host would love for you to do is please leave a good review on Apple or Spotify.

Innocent until proven guilty is the backbone of our legal system, and yet, we don't actually operate that way anymore. People now are brought to trial and assumed guilty until absolute proof of innocence is given.

My guest today is James Porfido (Esq). James was a prominent prosecutor with decades of experience serving the state of New Jersey to defend it's citizens. Then, everything revealed it's ugly nature to an extent that could no longer be ignored. James became a criminal defense attorney and worked to represent those who found themselves wrongly accused and without proper representation. While you would think that both sides are working for the greater good, James was abandoned by many and chastised by more.
Join us as he explains the true inequality of the justice system, and what you can do to prevent yourself from being another wrongfully convicted statistic.( Www.Unequal-Justice.Com )

Let's ask for our lawyers before talking to anyone.
I could have easily spent all day talking to James about those major trials of: Casey Anthony, the Menendez Brothers, OJ Simpson, Michael Jackson, Harvey Weinstein, and Scott Peterson.
In other news... April is rolling on, and the rankings are more regular:
1. The United States, with Oregon, Washington, and California now at the front. #WestCoastBestCoast
2. England of the United Kingdom.
3. Australia, with Queensland and Victoria all tied up.
4. Canada, with Ontario still on top.
5. New Zealand, back after some time away.
I always love seeing the list swings and changes as the show grows.

No matter where you live in the world, you heat water through some method. And some countries like Canada are ahead of even the US, much to my surprise. But the real kicker is finding out how wrong I could have been in picking my next one.
Welcome to the Just Dumb Enough Podcast. A show that acknowledges no one is always an expert, by dispelling misconceptions with real experts.
My guest today is a self proclaimed energy nerd, Larry Weingarten. We all have water heaters in our homes, and yet 99.9% of us probably know little to nothing about ours, despite the fact they can explode! Now that's rare, but it has your attention, huh? Over the interview, Larry will teach us all the things we need to know, which could help your health, energy usage, bank account, and so much more.

Let's get cool with hot water.
I don't know about all of you, but this has me rethinking a huge amount of what I would put into a dream house; if I could afford to build it.
In other news... April is here, and the rankings are all over the place:
1. The United States, with Oregon, New York, and Virginia now at the front.
2. Canada, with Ontario as king.
3. Israel, which is new.
4. South Africa, almost certainly thanks to Irma bashing it last week.
5. Australia, with Queensland just leading Western Australia.
That'll probably level out next week, but still pretty cool!

It seems that, in this day and age, Immigrating to another country is not all that uncommon. But with all the well known causes and issues, it's startling to actually hear them from someone who has experienced the inefficiency of our system.
Welcome to the Just Dumb Enough Podcast. A show that acknowledges no one is always an expert, by dispelling misconceptions with real experts.
My guest today is Irma Goosen. She was born and raised in South Africa, came to the United States, and eventually settled in Canada; but the reasons and timeline of these changes will likely shock you as much as they did me, which is to say: A fraction of how bad they were for Irma. She also coaches for TEDx and gives speeches on the benefits of legal immigration for both people and companies.
And if you live in a privileged country, this interview will definitely leave you feeling grateful for every small and large convenience we have.

Let's see if it's worth moving.
So what would you have to see or experience to make you want to leave your country?
In other news... March is pretty much over, and here the rankings are regulating:
1. England of the United Kingdom.
2. Hong Kong, who dropped a spot after i asked why I was popular. Was I not suppose to ask?
3. The United States, with California, Illinois, and Washington now at the top.
4. Australia, with Victoria now leading Queensland and Western Australia.
5. Canada, with Ontario still keeping them just above Israel.
