Thanks for joining me, Gabriela. Gabriela Olivera – 0:10: Of course. Happy to be here. Mason Paine – 0:12: Tell me, what are some of the top trends for back-to-school season? Gabriela Olivera – 0:16: We've got some fun ones this year. Stanley Cup is the top trending teacher gift. North Face Backpacks and True Religion Backpacks are the top trending backpack brands. School Lunch Peanut Butter Bar's recipe and School Lunch Cheese Stick recipe are the top trending school lunch recipes. Then we also have some fun back to school apparel that's been trending. The first is Nike sweatpants, second is Graphic Tees, third is sweatshirts, fourth is Zara jeans, and fifth is camo jeans which I actually bought some camo jeans just the other day. If you didn't know, you can actually say, for example, you see a graphic that you really like, you can use the lens to take a picture of that. In the search bar, you can use that photo to instantly see options that better match your preference. It also will then show shopping options where you can compare the prices and the different graphic tees based on what you like. Mason Paine – 1:07: I am a sucker for back-to-school stuff. Even though I'm not in school anymore, I don't know why I still get excited. It's the child in me. I was a little bit shocked though about gifts for teachers. Do you remember ever giving gifts to teachers? Because I never did. Was I just a bad kid? Gabriela Olivera – 1:21: Honestly, I don't think you were a bad kid, but I didn't either. My mom did. Mason Paine – 1:26: Oh, she did? What did she give her? Gabriela Olivera – 1:28: I think it was always a note and a little gift basket or some sort. Mason Paine – 1:34: Yeah, the gift basket thing. My sister, she has two kids and she did that. And I was like, why? I was like, why? I know giving them gifts, okay, cool. But I think as a teacher, wouldn't you want some school supplies? Give them pencils, give them so they don't have to buy it themselves, right? I don't think they need another Stanley Cup. Gabriela Olivera – 1:55: Honestly, it's a very good point. Actually, when you're shopping back to school season, there is a tool on Google Shopping that allows you to see price insights and historical average for products over the past 90 days. Then you can see the school supplies and decide if that deal is truly good and if now is the right time to buy. If now is not the right time to buy, there's also price alerts. So you know when it's the perfect time to snag those deals. Teachers, keep that in mind this year. It could come in handy. Mason Paine – 2:22: Absolutely. Because I know for my sister's son, he's now in the I think it's either the three or the five-subject notebook. And I think that would be really nice to give a teacher. Give her 10 of those. Bam. You can always, for the kid who didn't buy one, boom, put it right on his desk. Be like, "I know you didn't do it, but I got it for you and I didn't have to pay for it." I think that would be a super good gift. Pencils, pens, paper for the teacher. Now when it comes to some of the school supplies though like the backpacks, North Face, I didn't even know.

Jessica Flores – 0:10: Great to be here. Nice to talk to you. Mason Paine – 0:12: So, Olympics, it just started, but you know what, how long is it going to last for? Jessica Flores – 0:17: Oh, I love the Olympics. I think it's 16 days. Right. And we are seeing a bunch of things people are searching for on Google already. They want to know the schedule. They want to know exactly that. Like how long is this going to last for? They want to know when folks are going to do certain events. We're seeing big breakout search terms like artistic gymnastics. Jessica Flores – 0:39: We're seeing a breakdancing. We have a huge spike there because of course, it's the first time. Break dancing is part of the Summer Olympics. A lot of people, they want to. Mason Paine – 0:48: Know what that about break dancing. Oh, my God. I didn't even know that was a thing. Has it started yet? Jessica Flores – 0:54: That's a good question. Let's look. Let's Google that. I believe breakdown thing is, it's a little bit away. But the cool thing is Google is going to help you through all of these questions. So if you google anything like breakdown thing, you know, us Olympic schedule, it will show you right at the very top, an information panel that will give you everything you need to know so you don't have to click through seven different websites to figure that out. So, for example, I'm seeing right now, okay, breaking the pre qualifier battle 07:00 a.m. August 9. Jessica Flores – 1:26: So you know right away, okay, that's when I can watch it. And the other thing is it customizes it to your local time so it knows exactly like, okay, so if you're in the Chicago area, it's going to give you time based on where you are. Mason Paine – 1:41: Oh, my God. That is really helpful because that's true. I remember way back when, when I would watch the Olympics religiously, you know, like, especially in Japan, some of those events started at like three in the morning, so you didn't know you had to convert the time. That's a lot of stuff I don't want to do. Jessica Flores – 1:58: Right, and the other thing is you're not going to wake up at 03:00 a.m. to watch every game. So you want to know, okay, where, where, who has the most medal, who won? And you can just, when you google Olympics or Olympic medal count, something like that right at the very top, it'll give you a breakdown of all the countries and it'll show you who's leading the way? So us right now, I believe the last I check was around 20 medals. We have a couple of gold medals in there. Yesterday, the men's artistic gymnastics team took home the bronze, which was like the first time they took home a medal in almost two decades, 16 years, I believe. And there's also a hometown Olympian there that helped the men team take home that medal, Paul Juda. Mason Paine – 2:43: Was there anything else that was trending? Like, I know a lot of people had a problem with the opening, but was there any searches for, like, Celine Dion? Jessica Flores – 2:51: Yeah, I mean, if you saw her performance, you could not help but get emotional and then want to watch that after. So we did see a huge increase in people searching for Celine Dion Olympic performance. Also, people wanted to know what song did she sing?

Thanks for joining me, Marley. Marley McAliley - 0:11: Thank you so much for having me. Mason Paine - 0:12: So, you know, one thing I'm always excited about is sales. And I have to know, was there any sales trending in this past June for sales? Marley McAliley - 0:20: People were really interested in different topics around weddings and wedding budgets. People were interested also in different wedding dress styles. So wedding season was really taking center stage. People are trying to figure out, you know, how they can keep their wedding under a budget. Something that was trending was actually a term that I recently heard about, which is called micro wedding. And micro wedding actually just means a small wedding or wedding under 50 people. So a lot of people are trying to figure out, you know, how they can celebrate their big day and do so under a budget. Mason Paine - 0:53: You know, I've never had the privilege of being part of, like, a wedding like that. Have you ever had wedding planning experience? Marley McAliley - 0:59: I don't have any wedding planning experience. I've been to a few weddings, but all of them have been on the larger side. So I think it's nice, the idea of having a more intimate ceremony with only your closest friends and family. Mason Paine -1:12: I kind of like that idea, too, because, like you've said, I've only been to, like, the big weddings. And the only thing I'm really worried about is is it an open bar? You know, what kind of food are they having? But I think it would be kind of nice to have something really tiny because then you could probably spend more money, and it feels like it's more, you know, like maybe you can go with duck instead of chicken. Marley McAliley - 1:31: Yeah, absolutely. You can splurge on certain areas that you normally wouldn't be able to with a larger party size, for sure. Mason Paine - 1:37: Zachary now, besides the catering, was there anything else that was kind of trending with the wedding season because it is pretty large? Marley McAliley - 1:43: Yes. We saw a lot of different questions around what pertains to a wedding. So basically, what do you wear to a wedding? What hand does a wedding ring go on? When do you send wedding invitations? What to write in a wedding card? So lots of questions on just, like, general best practices when it comes to attending weddings. Mason Paine - 2:03: What else happened in June? Marley McAliley - 2:05: Tv we had some great June premieres this past month. A lot of people are interested in Bridgerton. Bridgerton was the top trending premiere in June. People were searching questions related to the show, such as does call and forgive Penelope? Does Eloise and Penelope make up people are also really excited about House of the dragon, and high Valyrian is actually the top trending how to learn for languages, and that's the made up language that they speak in House of Dragons and in Game of Thrones. Mason Paine -2:35: I'm curious, have you watched any of these shows? Because I sure have not. Marley McAliley - 2:39: I've seen Bridgerton. I'm a big fan of Bridgerton. I've seen all of the seasons. So, yeah, I basically binge the third season this past weekend, so that was an enjoyable time.

Thanks for having me. Mason Paine:  0:18 - Could you tell me what can be considered some basic AI skills that you can actually highlight on your resume? Lisa Gevelber: 0:24 -Oh, sure. You know, employers are looking for AI skills more than ever, and so are people looking to learn AI skills. You know, AI can be used for all kinds of tasks at work, things like creating content or doing analyses or making a plan. AI's good at all of those things. And one of the best ways to show employers that you know your stuff on AI is to do a course and get a certificate. So at Google, we offer a course called Google AI essentials, and it will teach you all of the basic things you need to know to put the tools to work for you, to be more efficient and productive. And you earn our certificate at the end that really you can put on your LinkedIn or put on your resume to show employers that you know how to use these tools. Mason Paine: 1:13 - Oh, that's nice. I'm glad you guys have a course. So then you will be able to answer, will there be any lesson about prompting, and is it even important? Lisa Gevelber: 1:22 -Yeah, actually prompting is pretty important. The better job you do of asking the tool for what you want, the better the results are that you get. But actually prompting is kind of just like having a conversation with a tool. There are a few tips and tricks that you can learn about making effective prompts, like giving it a Persona, saying like, oh, pretend you're an expert on this topic and teach someone who's not an expert about a particular lesson. That's an example of giving a Persona. Or you can learn about prompting in terms of telling it what format you want the results in, you know. Please give me a summary of this report. Using bullet points. Lisa Gevelber: 2:04 - And so prompting really is a pretty basic thing, but it's really important to learn the skill, because the better job you do asking for things, the better job the tool will do in giving you what you're looking for. And we do teach basic prompting in the Google AI essentials course, so it's really handy. Mason Paine: 2:22 - Now, adding a skill to your resume is always a plus, but how is it helping people job switch? Lisa Gevelber: 2:28 - Oh, yeah. Well, employers more and more are looking for people with AI skills. As a matter of fact, searches by people looking for jobs, one of the highest or most popular searches we see are how to use AI or how to learn AI or courses to learn AI. But actually, AI tools like Google's Gemini tool can also be useful in your job search. It can help you draft a cover letter. For example, it can if you upload a job description of a job you're looking at. It can also help come up with potential interview questions that the recruiter might ask you or suggest questions that you could ask the recruiter, which is super useful. Inamar – 0:09: Hey, Mason, I'm thrilled about this interview opportunity. Thank you so much for having me. Mason Paine – 0:14: So tell me, Inamar, how long have you been a DJ? Inamar – 0:17: I've been a DJ for three years. Mason Paine – 0:19: That's amazing that you've been djing for three years already. You know, I'm curious, who are some of your musical influences and what drew you to them? Inamar – 0:27: I've been inspired by various artists like Nora and pure, pretty, pink and Miss Monique. Their ability to showcase their creations to the audience and feel the vibes directly on the stage is truly inspiring. Mason Paine – 0:41: You know, I read somewhere that you also play instruments. Is this true? Inamar – 0:44: Yes, I play the piano and the guitar. Mason– 0:46: Now do you ever incorporate the piano or guitar into your music? Inamar – 0:50: Well, my creative process always starts at my piano. Jamming around generates many ideas, melodies and even songwriting. Mason Paine – 0:58: From what I read, you're also a producer. What inspired you to gravitate towards that? Or was this more of a natural progression as a DJ? Inamar – 1:06: It was actually the other way around. Seven years ago, I started producing. I was in Ibiza, standing at Ushuaya, and suddenly it hit me like a lightning bolt. I knew I wanted to make music. I flew back home, downloaded logic prex and thought myself everything through YouTube videos and books. I think it was then a natural progression that at some point I wanted to showcase my music to an audience. That's when I started DJing and realized it's also a huge passion of mine. Mason Paine – 1:37: I love hearing how people end up becoming DJs and everything about you was self taught. It was just a natural progression into being a musician. And you just knew that, bam, this is where I want to be. So tell me about your latest track, Dolce Vita. Inamar – 1:52: Well, my new track, Dolce Vita, was created in my music studio in Lugano. Lugano is located in the italian part of Switzerland. The view of palm trees and Lugano's mountains. Sansa vaturatore inspired me to write Dolce Vita. I had this melody in my head and translated it onto my piano to craft the song's lyrics. I really wanted to produce a song that reflects my love for the italian way of life. So I poured all my good wipes into it. With this song, I aimed to emphasize the joys of life, such as good food, good company and beautiful surroundings. Song – 2:30: Dolce Vita By: Inamar Mason Paine – 5:27: Now I know you released Dolce Vita on Sirup. How did this partnership come about? Inamar – 5:32: Partnership with Sirup came about when they heard my track Dolce Vita and expressed interest in releasing it. We sat down to discuss the details and it felt like a great opportunity to share my music with a renowned label like Sirup. Their professionalism and commitment to high quality music convinced me that this was the right partnership for me. Mason Paine – 5:52: Now, most DJs focus on a specific genre of music, but I actually read you have a focus on three. What are these three genres and what drew you to them? And the first thing I need to know about what was trending on the Grammys. Justin Burr – 0:19: Yeah. You know, February is a short month, but they crammed so much stuff into it. There's so many things to talk about. So Grammys. Right. Do people still watch award shows? I don't know. But looking at the Google trends, the top search red carpet looks, Taylor Swift number one. Boy genius number two. Billy Joel number three. Taylor Swift, always looking. H. She also won Grammy of the year, album of the year. She was also trending because she announced an upcoming album, tortured poets department. I already bought the vinyl on pre order. What's up? A couple other trending things. Paris Hilton new album was trending. Has Miley Cyrus ever won a Grammy? Was trending because she won her first ever Grammys. So no, she hadn't, but now she has. So I didn't watch the Grammys, but I've heard gothings and there's a lot of search interest in this. Mason Paine – 1:10: Know, it's crazy about the Miley Cyrus one. I was completely shocked. I really thought she won multiple Grammys. Justin Burr – 1:17: No, for sure. And I think that was why it was one of the breakout searches because I think people were pretty shocked when she won that one, that it was her first because, yeah, she's been making sweet tunes for a long time. Mason Paine – 1:28: Right. Justin Burr – 1:29: I don't know. I guess she never got it. Mason Paine – 1:30: Who else was I? Celine Dion. I thought that was fabulous that she was out there because she has that stiff person syndrome. So I know she limits her going outside a lot, but it was absolutely amazing. She looked gorgeous. Justin Burr – 1:44: So good. Yeah. She's had to cancel some tours and stuff. Right. She's had some mobility issues. Mason Paine – 1:49: Yeah. Justin Burr – 1:49: Great. I've seen her in concert and it was. Mason Paine – 1:54: Wow. Justin Burr – 1:55: Yeah, dude, dude. Right before the pandemic hit, right in Brooklyn, got some tickets, last second, went in there and she just rocked. Was, it was so such, she's such a performer, really captivates an audience, captivates the world. So it's awesome. Mason Paine – 2:12: When it comes to other culture stuff, what else was trending in February? Justin Burr – 2:16: Yeah, there's a few things. We've got Black History Month, we've got lunar new year, and we've also got some Valentine's Day things. So some trending searches here. Why is black History Month in February. That was a breakout search in the United States, and there's a lot of different answers, but some of the main points are that Lincoln and Douglas's birthdays are in February, and there used to be black history week, and that was in February, and they extended it to an entire month. Who started the civil rights movement? And there's no single person that I was actually the catalyst for that. But the ACP was a prominent organization in that movement, was also looking at the top searched black owned products ...

Find out how he stays motivated and the impact he has made in India developing the EDM scene there. Thanks for joining me. Browncoat. 0:13-Browncoat: Hi there, Mason. Thank you so much for having me. I've been really looking forward to this conversation. Really happy to be here. 0:18-Mason Paine: You've been creating music for 26 years. What first drew you into EDM? 0:24-Browncoat: While I wouldn't necessarily call my music EDM, I try and make more deep house, melodic techno and house and slightly more underground than conventional EDM. And it's been 26 years, but it's still a struggle in India because India has such a deep and rich musical culture that it's very difficult for anything which is non-indian to cut through. And that's probably the main reason where I wanted to showcase more of the international and electronic music because that's not what you get in still date. There's not a single radio channel or tv show or anything which can be considered mainstream that showcases international music. And that's the best part about it. You're running against the tide and showcasing music that people are not used to. That was the biggest draw for me. 1:12-Mason Paine: So you've been going against the grain for many years. But when you first started in the scene, what genre did you spin? 1:19-Browncoat: In the beginning, it was just a fight and struggle with the venues to allow us to play international, be it top 40, hip hop, r and b, or even basic pop. It was just that difficult because everybody just wanted you to play what's being broadcasted everywhere, the typical hindi film music or the punjabi music. And at that time, we would just be happy to play top 40s because that was the struggle for us. 1:42-Mason Paine: Wow. So you had a history of just fighting to be able to play certain songs in the style that you wanted to. But as of today now, what's the particular genre that you spin nowadays I. 1:55-Browncoat: Play a lot of melodic techno, indie dance, deep house, progressive. That's also because I produce a lot of these genres and it gets an amazing response from the floor. It's really progressing beautifully and I love where the music is right now. 2:08-Mason Paine: What is the EDM music scene like in India? 2:11-Browncoat: The electronic scene in India is amazing. The crowd that turns up for our events is just beautiful. The response that you get from the audience is incomparable because I've traveled and played around the world and I still prefer playing to an Indian audience because they really give you their all when they're dancing, the screaming, the shouting, the smiling. And even though it might not be the mainstream genre in India, but because they're such a populist nation, a small fraction also makes up for big numbers. So the scene in India is amazing. You can ask any touring dj. The love that the dance flow in India gives is incomparable. 2:45-Mason Paine: You talked about how it was an uphill battle to be a dj 26 years ago and how now the scene is like, really amazing. But have you had to navigate any big challenges while promoting your music in India? 2:59-Browncoat: It's a little tough because we still are a conservative society and clubbing and partying are still considered more of a weste...

Really happy to be here, and, thanks for having me on. 0:17 - Mason Paine: So, Wannes, tell me, how did you guys form Ramsesboomboom? 0:21 - Wannes Salome: Yes. So Ramsesboomboom is a duo project of me and Erik. Erik and I have known each other, like, for all of our professional music career. We went to school together. He studied drums, and I studied music production. And we basically clicked right away at school. So we played in bands together. And after our studies, We actually played in a band called Clangstaff, which is a indie rock band. 0:48 - Wannes Salome: And we toured all over America and Europe and played a lot of festivals. And during that time, when we got tired of doing indie music, we got together and started to write some electronic music Because we were both really into electronic music as well, like John Hopkins, James Blake, like a lot of alternative electronic music. So we just started to write electronic track. After a while, we had a collection of them and we thought we should release this, do something with it. 1:16 - Mason Paine: You know, inquiring minds have to know, Ramsesboomboom. Now that's a pretty unique name. Can you give me the background on what it means? 1:25 - Wannes Salome: Definitely, it's an interesting name. Ramses was actually the name of our very first demo. Like, the very first electronic track we we created was initially called Ramses. Then we decided to call our project Ramses, and we called that track I feel nothing, which is the 1st, track we released with this project. So actually, the 1st track we ever wrote is also the 1st track, we released, which is very funny. But then after a while, we decided to add the Boom, Boom to it because it just It's a little bit of playfulness, and it's also gives the whole name a little bit more of a unique vibe, a more of a interesting vibe, which is why We went with Ramsesboomboom. 2:04 - Mason Paine: You know, prior to forming Ramsesboomboom, did either of you have any other musical background? 2:10 - Wannes Salome: Yeah. So we we studied together on the Conservatoire of Rotterdam in the Netherlands, and we both studied at the pop academy. Yeah. I think We're both just really we have really broad interests. So we've done a lot of music. We've done a pop and jazz and tried out some classical music influences. Yeah. And as, as producers, we work with different artists with different backgrounds as well. 2:37 - Wannes Salome: So I don't know. We're we're just very much in love with music and creating and experimenting, actually. I think experimenting is a big theme for us in our music, musical career and in this project as well. 2:50 - Mason Paine: So you guys have known each other for a pretty long time, but how long have you and Erik been performing together? 2:56 - Wannes Salome: Yeah. Erik and I have been performing together for years now. I think at least 10 years, which is basically my, my whole professional life. Yeah. I don't think there's anyone that I've worked with as much as with Erik. And, yeah, we were just very used to playing together and writing together and philosophizing of about music and a lot of other stuff as well.

Thanks for joining me, Bailey. Bailey – 0:13: Thanks for having me, Mason. Mason Paine – 0:14: Now that January is over, I gotta know what are some of the big top trends that we had this month? Bailey – 0:19: The month came and went and it. Was a busy month. I think even looking back on the trends, I forgot all the things that had happened from sports to entertainment. You had the Golden Globes at the beginning of the month. And as folks tend to do, they want to know who's there and what they're wearing. So Ali Wong, who won a best actress award for her role in beef, was one of the top trending people the day after the Golden Globes. Bailey – 0:22: I think even looking back on the trends, I forgot all the things that had happened from sports to entertainment. You had the Golden Globes at the beginning of the month. And as folks tend to do, they want to know who's there and what they're wearing. So Ali Wong, who won a best actress award for her role in beef, was one of the top trending people the day after the Golden Globes. And I think part of that was. She was the first person of Asian descent to win that particular award in succession. I don't know if you're a fan. I'm a fan. Even though the series is over, they. Are still continuing to trend. They took home four Golden Globes. Kieran Culkin had a really entertaining acceptance speech. So they were top of mind. And then the Emmys were in the middle of the month. It is award season. As I mentioned, folks are interested in what people are wearing. Aubrey Plaza from White Lotus and Suki Waterhouse and Daisy Jones and the six were top trending for their red carpet dresses. And then Elton John earned himself an EGOT with his Emmy award. So a lot of people searching, what is an EGOT? Very busy in the entertainment. Mason Paine – 1:23: Yeah, EGOT. That was actually really cool. I find it such a cool accomplishment when somebody wins. Like, I don't know, part of me is like, why should I give a hoot if somebody wins all of it? But that is huge, right? I mean, an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, what's the Tony, I think, right? Tony? Bailey – 1:40: Yeah. Yeah. It's wild. I think it's not until I actually. Think about go through the acronym to really think through, like, wow, that is a person of many talents across the board, right? Really impressive. Mason Paine – 1:53: And then I'm trying to think, what did he win with his Oscar, right? Bailey – 1:57: Like, what was that such a good. Mason Paine – 1:59: Even I don't to kind of look. Bailey – 2:03: Up at the other ones. And now I'm realizing I didn't even look up what Oscar was. Mason Paine – 2:07: You know what, I don't care what it is. I'm just going to believe that it's, can you feel the love tonight from the Lion King? Bailey – 2:13: Actually, yeah. Obviously what it is, right? Mason Paine – 2:18: It's like we're just going to leave it at that. That's the only suck I really think is worth it. No, I'm just kidding. Bailey – 2:24: Exactly. Thanks for joining me, AMKA. AMKA - 0:12: Thank you for having me on. Mason Paine - 0:14: Mason, tell me, how long have you been a DJ and how'd you pick up your name? AMKA - 0:18: Yeah, well, I started DJ when I was 14, and the story behind my DJ name is, is that everyone was calling me AMKA because it's my gamer tag. I'm a big fan of video games, so, yeah, I kept AMKA as my artist's name. That's it. Mason Paine - 0:37: Nice. I actually like video games too. Was that your inspiration or was there something else that inspired you into the music industry? AMKA - 0:45: I grew up surrounded by music. My uncle was a DJ as well and he had the DJ console at my parents’ home. So, one day I decided to try and since then everything started. Mason Paine - 0:58: That's cool. You have a solid foundation and there are multiple genres. When it comes to EDM, what drew you to techno specifically? AMKA - 1:07: Well, that's a great question. Honestly, I decided to choose techno because it's able to convey different emotion to people. The groove and the melodies are able to transport the listener whatever he wants at the moment of listening. That's why I have chosen techno. Mason Paine - 1:21: Do you think you bring anything unique to techno? AMKA - 1:24: I don't know, probably melodies or atmospheres, because it's what my fans love more about my music. Mason Paine - 1:30: Your new track, vivid memories. I got to know, was there any inspiration behind it? AMKA - 1:35: The concept behind the track was to create a memorable experience. Whether you're listening to it at a club or a festival, it aims to capture the essence of the moment, making it unforgettable for you and your friends around you. Mason Paine - 6:14: It's sham you. Is there any other artists in particular that you look up to or you get inspired by that? Just really helps you push your own music along? AMKA - 7:40: I'm not going to say a specific name, to be honest, because the world is full of incredible artists who keep inspiring me and other people every day. We just have to be thankful to all of them for their music and to keep inspiring us. Mason Paine - 7:54: Even though you've been DJing since you were very young man, you've only been on the scene for about a year professionally. So when it comes to the evolution of your own sound, have you noticed that it's changed or evolved at all? AMKA - 8:08: Over the past year? My musical journey has been an incredible learning experience. I saw a significant evolution in both my sound and production technique. In terms of sound, I have to say that I became more refined and focused. It's been a long process of trial and error, but each experiment has contributed to shaping my sonic landscape. Mason Paine - 8:29: I love that you acknowledge that you're growing and you're expanding. and with that said, are there any upcoming projects that you're working on? Thanks for joining me, Robert. Robert Ferrara 00:13: Thanks for having me. Happy New Year. Mason Paine 00:15: You know, what are some of the top search new Year resolutions people are searching for? Robert Ferrara 00:20: Now is that time of year. You know, everyone's thinking about their New Year's resolutions, how to better themselves for 2024, and we're really seeing that reflected across all of our search trends as well on Google. So this year, resolutions are always top of mind in January that we see in our results. But the categories that we're seeing, not surprising. The first one is health and wellness. So that includes physical health, mental wellness, really the whole gamut there. Also, right after that is financial. Also, one we see pretty consistently year over year things related to money and how you can be more budget conscious and manage your money more effectively in the new year. Robert Ferrara 00:57: And then finally, the third one was a bit of a breakout and a little surprising to us, too, which is really cool. So green and ecofriendly resolution were some of the top ones as well. So a lot of people thinking about the kinds of products they buy, whether they're deemed ecofriendly, sustainable fashion, how to be more green at home, just trying to lessen their environmental impact this year. Mason Paine 1:17: That one is pretty interesting. How would that look in the trends? Is that kind of like, how would. I impact the environment less? Like, what can I eat or what can I do? What does that look like? Robert Ferrara 1:28: I think there's a lot of attention to what we're consuming as a big one. So, for example, we're seeing a big spike in ecofriendly cleaning products, things that we buy every day for our household that we might have overlooked, and what kind of chemicals and materials go into these products, what is the impact they have on planet and things like that. A big thing, too, that we're seeing is sustainable fashion as well. More of a concern over fast fashion and making sure that you understand the kind of materials the garments are made out of, what kind of labor went into creating them. Is it something that's going to last for a long time? All these things that people really want to think about before making that purchase, and then even goes for larger purchases as well, which is very interesting. A funding one we spoke to with sustainable engagement ring searches really increased as well. Whether that's like vintage or pre owned or lab grown diamonds, and people doing research on alternative engagement rings, it's really interesting to see how these pains year over year. Mason Paine 2:29: Was there any differences from last year to this year? Robert Ferrara 2:32: We always see some differences in the exact trends. Health and financial are pretty consistent year over year. Like, for example, gym membership and meal prep, they spike every January and then some change over time. So, for example, the health benefits of dry January has completely surged. We actually saw an increase of over 2000% in the past week alone. And that's something that we've seen steadily growing year over year as more and more people are interested.

Let's find out why he has caught the attention of many industry professionals and fans alike since his 2022 debut. Thanks for joining me, Pepper Jack. PepperJvck 00:15: Thanks for having me on, Mason. Mason Paine 00:17: You know, I read that you were classically trained. At what age did you start your training? PepperJvck 00:22: So, I actually started learning classical music around the age of ten. I started playing the piano from a next-door neighbor that I had actually, and then I transitioned that into being a cellist. And I was the first chair in our orchestra in junior high and high school for a while. And I ended up playing the cello for about eight years. Learned a lot of sheet music, how to read music, how to play in a quartet, how to play in an orchestra. I was in a symphony for a while. So, yeah, it's been a lot of different classical training before I got into electronic music later on in my life. Mason Paine 00:56: That's an impressive resume. How did you go from classically trained to gravitating towards dance music? PepperJvck  1:02: Yeah, so that's a great question, actually, because I've had a really diverse background in music. I started in symphonies and quartets and orchestras and that sort of thing, and then I actually got into rock music after that. So I was in a garage band, in my friend's garage. We would get together after school. We went to the same high school and just jam out. I was on the guitar. We had a keyboardist, we had a singer. We play anything from blues to jazz to rock music, and that was a lot of fun. PepperJvck 1:30: So I think that transition for me, from the orchestra setting into a rock band and then finally into electronic music, was just kind of natural for me because I was going from an instrument that wasn't that high tech, it wasn't amplified at all to something that was amplified, and I could create distortion on the amp I had with my guitar. And then eventually buying software and getting even more high tech by getting into house music and electronic music production. So for me, I think it was just that transition of getting more and more electronic, more and more amplified, and exploring all the capabilities I had at my disposal, especially. I felt like it was pretty unique having that classical background and just knowing what I know about music theory, chord progressions, minor skills, major skills, all of that knowledge I had, because I feel like a lot of people in Ableton kind of get into it from the dj side, like they dj venues and that sort of thing. And they get into it from a social aspect, and then they buy Ableton and get into production. But for me, it was really about using and channeling the skills I had with symphony aspects, with knowing my skills, my chord progressions and music theory, and coming into electronic music from that background. So I felt like that was kind of unique for my skill set and something that I always wanted to pursue. Mason Paine 2:50: Eventually, the more djs that I talked to, the more I realized how they start their career in one place and they'll end up in a totally different genre. Did that happen to you? Did you start out in, like, trance or dubstep and you found out that. No, man, I really like house. PepperJvck 3:07: Yeah. So I love all types of electronic music. I love dubstep. I grew up listening to Skrillex. I love house music,

Joining me to break down the top searches on Google and entertainment, sports, pop culture news and more is Google trends expert Justin Burr. Thanks for joining me, Justin. 00:14 - Justin Burr: Hey, thanks so much for having me. 00:16 - Mason Paine: This year, there's been so much that has happened. I don't even know where to start other than what's the biggest trend, I guess. 00:24 - Justin Burr: It's so fun to look back at the year and what people were searching and what the trending searches were. If we look at the news category, it's always a bit of a somber category or just a little bit more serious because people are coming to Google to figure out what is happening in these specific instances. Number one trend in 2023 was the war in Israel and Gaza. Then we had the Titanic submarine and Hurricane Hillary rounding out the top three in the news category. The thing that all of those things have in common is that they are fluid, they are something that is evolving. That's why we see these trending... These trending searches so high on the list because people are coming back to Google repeatedly to get updated information, especially in the context of natural disasters. We see those high on the trending search list every single year because people are figuring out what's happening, how to stay safe, what is the latest and the greatest in terms of that context. 1:19 - Mason Paine: Yeah, that's pretty true. I know one of the things that affected here in Chicago was the Canada wildfires because it actually got super smoggy for a while out here. I think it happened in New York and a lot of the upper states in America. 1:32 - Justin Burr: Yeah, that was on the newest category, the number 10 trending search was Canada wildfires. Yeah, in New York City, there was one day where you couldn't be five feet in front of you. The smoke was so thick. It was really wild. I think people were probably searching for that quite a bit to understand what the air quality was, what the buyers were doing, and how to maybe avoid it. 1:55 - Mason Paine: Now, one of the categories that I was really interested in, because I didn't realize so much had happened, was the passing. I'm like, Man, there's a lot of people that had passed. I thought that was like a year or two ago, but no, it was this year. 2:07 - Justin Burr: It's always interesting to look at folks that left us this year and what search interest they drove. So yeah, Matthew Perry coming in at number one, obviously very tragic, beloved by many from the television show, Friends, said Tina Turner. Number two, Jerry Springer. Number three, and the other top 10 categories, Bob Barker. So, yes, some sad departures this year, but yeah, it is interesting to remind yourself who passed this year. And yeah, it does feel like some of those folks were... It was longer ago, but no later than 2023. 2:38 - Mason Paine: Yeah, the ones that affected me was Bob Barker and Jerry Springer. As a kid, when you were homesick, those were the two shows you would watch all day long. And so not having them, it was like, Wow. I don't think that they weren't on air anyways, but it was just the fact like a piece of my childhood just went away. And it was like, And then Suzanne Summer's.

Thanks for joining me, Christina. 00:14 – Christina: Hi, it's so great to be here. 00:15 – Mason: So to top off first, I got to know, what are the top gifts trending for the holiday so far? 00:21 – Christina: Yeah. Based on a search trend we've been seeing through the year, we've been able to identify about a hundred gifts and ideas. For me, I'm looking for something fun, unique, and maybe a little nostalgic. So some things that stood out to me on the list were things like our engraved necklaces. Purchases for that are up about 5,000 %, as well as lab-grown diamond tennis bracelets, so economically sourced diamonds, folks are looking at. And the beauty space, things like claw clips to pull your hair back, those are making a resurgence this year. On the electronics front, we're seeing things like headsets are really of interest. So either gamer headsets with a mic on them or even sleep headphones for people that are trying to maybe get a more restful sleep. We've been seeing stuff like that pop up. 1:07 – Mason: I'm a little bit curious about the keyword Choiceage. So when going through the apparel and accessories, I noticed that one of the things that was trending was target cozy sneakers. Why use the word cozy? Why not just word like, slippers? 1:22 – Christina: Yeah. So what we're seeing is seeing the search trend for things like flippers. They always spike in December. So if I had to guess, it's because people are trying to stay warm this holiday. And what are fun words that people think of? And I think cozy is probably one of them. 1:36 – Mason: Okay, that's fair enough. When it comes to the searches, what's driving the holiday sales? Is it like deep discounts or special promotions? 1:45 – Christina: So I think it's probably a mix of both, right? So we get the list of things that people are really looking for. But what we also see is people come to Google to find things like deals. So maybe they want the big ticket item but they don't want to spend full price. Something that we're able to help people do if they're looking to save a little bit of money is if they Google shop deals, they'll be taken to a special landing page that will give them millions of items that are on sale right now. So they can search through the different categories and find things from their favorite brands like Target or Under Armor so that they can save.Some money. 2:17 – Mason: Now, would it be smarter to use broad terms instead of specific terms, such as if I wanted to get shoes, I would just type in shoe deals instead of specified Nike deals. 2:29 – Christina: So the great is that you can do whatever feels most comfortable. So the way that I think about it is if you're looking for a specific thing, you can search for that specific item or that specific brand. Or if you're looking for something to the starting place, you can type in something like shoes. Joining me to speak about some of the top things people are searching for is Google trends expert, Elizabeth Howard. Thanks for joining me, Elizabeth. 00:12 – Elizabeth: Thanks for having me. 00:13 – Mason:  So Halloween, it's one of my favorite holidays. And I'm just so curious, what was trending so far in Google? 00:19 – Elizabeth: Well, Halloween in October, we have so many fun trends this month. Our top trends were costumes, makeup and DIY effects, food, and decor. Of course, we had some local searches, which were really fun this month to see as well. Should we get into the costumes first? 00:37 – Mason:  Absolutely. That's the best part. Are people looking to make their own costumes or they're buying costumes? 00:44 – Elizabeth: We definitely had some people looking for top DIY costumes. Rosie the Riveter is the most search last-minute costume of all time in the United States, and Pirate is the most search DIY costume. But the breakout search that we saw this year is Barbie is the top trending costume of the year across every single state, which really never happens in our search trends. There were probably lots of Barbies out this weekend, and there's going to be lots of Barbies out on Halloween night. We also saw a kin dog costume is the breakout pet costume search of the year, which I want to see pictures of these Barbie and kin dog costumes. Yeah. 1:30 – Mason:  That sounds so cute. I'm wondering, what is the dog going to wear? Is it going to wear a wig, a little hat, a cowboy hat, the whole theme? How's it going to go? 1:40 – Elizabeth: I know. I also wonder the fur jacket that ken wears when he's in his mojo jojo, cata house, maybe that is what the dog is going. To wear. 1:50 – Mason:  That would be so funny. You're right. This will be absolutely fabulous. Was there any makeup ideas? I'm sure probably the low hanging fruit is to just get a costume. But I have to know, is there any makeup ideas for people? 2:05 – Elizabeth: Yes. Every October we do see face paint and theatrical blood's bike. But this year we saw Carrie as the top training in costume search in conjunction with theatrical blood. We also saw yellow as the top trending contact lens color. A couple of months ago, we saw Barbie nails as a top trending nail design. Then this month we saw that change to ghosts. People were headed to the nail salon to get little ghosts on their fingernails. 2:35 – Mason:  That's cute. I like that. I think you could do that year round, though. It's not too big where it's going to be noticeable, right? 2:41 – Elizabeth: Yeah, exactly. 2:43 – Mason:  Now, for kids, are there any craft things that were for children? 2:47 – Elizabeth: We did see some decor and how to make things, decorations-wise. We had dry eyes for smoke effects. A pumpkin candy bucket was a breakout search. We also saw people trying to make spiderwebs, graveyard fences, ghost for yard, skeletons, and scarecrows. There was definitely some DIY going on in household this month. 3:14 – Mason:  Yeah, we have a thing in our family where all the little kids will make Halloween decorations for the windows. It'll just be a paper with a Frankenstein face on it, and they'll either color it in or if they're super good, they'll try to cut it out of little pieces of paper and they'll make something fancy. In this limited run series, I will be exploring the pioneers that have shaped and influenced the EDM we have today. In this episode I will be featuring “Cascada”. “Cascada” is a duo consisting of German-British singer Natalie Horler and German DJ and Producer’s  DJ Manian and DJ Yanou. The group was formed in 2004. Their most notable track was “Everytime We Touch”. Here is a listen here. "Everytime We Touch" was released in 2005 but didn’t gain widespread success until 2007. The song's memorable melody and lyrics made it stand out. With its mixture of Eurodance, trance and pop it appealed to a large audience.
