I discovered the benefits of intermittent fasting a few years ago and learnt more about the benefits when completing my health coaching certification. Since then IF has become more widely understood and accepted as a very positive health hack. For a brief overview and introduction, have a listen to this weeks episode. For more, please check out the following books: Mosley M, Spencer M. The Fast Diet-revised & updated: Lose weight, stay healthy, and live longer with the simple secret of intermittent fasting. The power of the nap

The power of the nap

Whenever possible I like to take a quick afternoon nap, not always possible but I certainly feel the benefits when I do.  Have a listen and perhaps give it a try, if not during the week perhaps as an opportunity to get some extra rest on the weekends....always helpful when the kids have you run ragged and ready to drop by evening time!
We’ve evolved in nature, amongst trees, rivers, meadows, beaches, and other trappings of wilderness. Our genes love green space; it’s where they developed and were given a chance to be expressed optimally. Getting out into nature has many benefits. This quick episode will hopefully motivate you to look for some green space at every opportunity.
This episode is all about what you need to know about the treatment of tendon injuries. Common tendons which can give trouble are the Achilles tendon at the back of the foot, the elbow tendons and the rotator cuff tendons at the shoulder Dr. Peter Malliaras is a physiotherapist and researcher from Melbourne, Australia specialising in tendinopathy. In 2006 he completed his Ph.D. in tendinopathy identifying novel risk factors and has since undertaken post-doctoral research in the UK and Australia. He has co-authored over 60 peer review publications.  In this episode I share with you his "nine truths about tendons" based on the most up to date research with some added insights based on my own experiences treating tendons over the years. Please also check out Peter's blog if you'd like to dig deeper into tendon injuries and rehab.
Many of our clients arrive at the clinic struggling with some form of back pain. Some come to us after trying various treatments with little relief. Here I'd like share some more recent advances in the knowledge about the assessment and treatment of persistent low back pain of a certain type. These are the clients who would be less likely to benefit from PhysioPilates as discussed in my previous episode and need a different approach. Much of the content discussed in this episode is based on the work of Prof. Peter O'Sullivan as well as the Pain-ed team who have had great influence within the physiotherapy profession.
PhysioPilates is a modified form of the Pilates exercise system which has been adapted for use within our clinic to assist the the treatment and rehabilitation of our clients with low back pain. PhysioPilates exercises can be used as part of a physiotherapy treatment or done in a small group setting. Our group classes are an hour long and and instructed by trained and experienced chartered physiotherapists. If you'd like to know more about PhysioPilates and how it may help you, please take a listen to this podcast. For more info, please go to www.mmphysiopilates.com
A quick overview of some of the benefits or looking for wines labelled as biodynamic and organic...especially if you suffer from wine headaches. Check out www.dryfarmwines.com for some great interviews on this topic with owner Todd White, as well as Blackrock Cellar here in Dublin for a great selection of biodynamic and organic wines along with a great new labeling system which makes it easier to make more informed choices about what has gone into the wine making process.
A good warm up before exercise or a sporting event may help reduce the risk of injury and improve performance.  Have a listen to my narration of a recent blog post. In good health. Simon
