Description

Join Mother Daughter Duo: Veteran Australian Radio Announcer Emily Jade O’Keeffe and her teen daughter Millie Valentine as Emily Jade moves over and hands the microphone to her Mini-Me.

Making a mini-me is all fun and games until she starts acting just like you. When Millie Valentine showed a deep interest in a career in the media, I decided to be the person I needed when I started in media 30 years ago. I would simply give her a go!

Welcome to Move Over Mama a mentoring podspace for teens to tune in and listen to someone just like them, starting out on their exciting journey of learning to live their best life.

Teens have big dreams and ambitions and who are we to stand in their way. This podcast aims to gift each and every set of ears with someone or something that will keep them striving to unlock their potential by being inspired by those who went before them. In one of these episodes you will hear exactly what you need to hear to go on and be the person you want to be.

Each week I introduce someone inspiring to Millie to interview and then I move over. When our guest has gone we discuss what she learned from that person and how she can apply the lessons in her life.

It will uncover WHO influential people were when they were teens and how their choices shaped their lives.

This is a podcast to help you dream big.

Returning to the 'Move Over Mama' couch is Money Expert Sarah Megginson, this time with a very personal story to share. We met Sarah Megginson last season to talk about money because her day job is the money expert for Finder.com. After gifting us with one of our most popular podcasts to date (because who doesn't want to start making money young) Sarah rejoins us with her close friend Lisa Messenger and the baby boy they created together. Sarah was recently Lisa's surrogate, which means she carried Lisa's baby because Lisa couldn't carry her own.A bit about Lisa: She is a girl boss, a highly respected publishing professional with 40 books under her belt, and a star in the entrepreneurial space. Privately, Lisa struggled with the one thing she could not achieve through hard work and a positive attitude. She had almost given up on having a child when Sarah came to her with an extraordinary offer. To carry her baby. After spending nearly half a million dollars trying and many methods both medical and alternate, Lisa and Sarahs friendship was the magic baby dust needed to create a miracle.Millie and I are no stranger the IVF journey. It took 6 years to have Millies’s brother Teddy. Millie became used to Doctors visits and sitting in waiting rooms during follicle counts and transfers. In fact Millies initial birds and bees talk was that a Doctor was helping her have a sibling and that’s what she thought happened for all families. She’s older now and of course understands the miracle of life, and we watched with awe Sarah and Lisa's journey together making Hugo as close friends. We think it’s a story perfect for Move Over Mama because our little Mamas need to know all the journeys people explore to have a family and to celebrate that we live in an age where families can be made in many different ways. This podcast covers who Lisa and Sarah were as teens, what led to needing the offer of Surrogacy, what the Surrogacy journey is like, and some of the complicated notions like what Leo will call Sarah, what Sarah's kids call Leo, and what will they tell Leo about his creation and birth. We hope this podcast episode both educates and more importantly gives hope to those on a similar journey. Please share with anyone you know who needs to hear this story. If you want to find out more about Sarah and Lisa their book "The Power of TWO" its out now.https://www.booktopia.com.au/the-power-of-two-lisa-messenger/ebook/9781763516465.htmlThey are on socialsSarah @sarahmegginsonmoneyLisa @lisamessaneger @collectivehub @collective_retreatand a shared one @mummyatlast This episode is brought to you by Vee Organics! Wicked Mania is about to hit the world. Prepare to see Pink and Green EVERYWHERE and we are all about it. But before there was the movie with Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, let's not forget there was the MUSICAL!We love musicals in our family, like L.O.V.E them.We love going to them at the theatre, watching them as movies, quoting them, singing songs from them in the car, around the house or out shopping (sorry Coles), and we have even performed in them. Our combined family musical count is Annie, Oliver, Wizard of Oz, Mamamia, Pricilla Queen of the Dessert, Aladdin and Billy Elliot… so it's safe to say we lost our minds over Courtney Monsma agreeing to join us on the Mama couch. She is Australian Theatre ROYALTY!We are such HUGE fans of this talented Gold Coast girl who is now quite simply the best thing in Australian theatre. She is currently touring the county as Glinda the Good Witch in WICKED and before that the list is endless. Ana in Frozen, Sophie in Mamamia, Princess Jasmin in Aladdin, Catherine Howard in Six and she's also in the hit TV show Paper Dolls. We think Courtney is just 'Thrillifying' on and off stage and after listening to our chat we think you will feel the same. While we start the chat with all things WICKED, we move onto talking about her stage anxiety, how she overcame her self sabotage, and how her methods could help you.Don't miss Courtney in Wicked at QPAC before she heads to Perth and beyond www.wickedthemusical.com.auYou can follow Courtney on her socials @courtneymonsma look for the blue tickThis episode is brought to you by Pavement! A filmmaker, politician, environmentalist, pro-surfer, mental health advocate, podcaster and businessman join us on the Mama Couch to help us with our environmental anxiety.Sounds like a huge team of people sitting on the couch with us huh! But in fact it is just two amazing 20 something-year-old guys, and the above is only SOME of what is on their resumes. So let's start with Kal Glanznig. From fundraising to get solar for his high school as a teen, to being the youngest elected councillor to the Sutherland Shire Council, Kal has won Young Citizen of the Year in 2020 and Environmental Citizen of the Year and is an impressive young leader who has represented Australia at the UN Climate Conference as a delegate and speaker. He recently made a film called Rising UP which is out in November.Cooper Chapman is an Ex Pro Surfer (Top 100 in the world) who now has his own podcast called the The Good Humans Podcast and he is the founder of The Good Human Factory which is an organisation and movement to connect people with simple tools to improve their wellbeing and thrive in life. His workshops have reached over 35,000 students and 10,000 corporate participants since 2020.Together with Surfers for Climate Change (https://surfersforclimate.org.au/) they have teamed up to deal with the environmental anxiety young Australians feel today. Over three quarters of young Australians aged 16-25yrs are concerned about climate change, but feel powerless, aren't taking action, have a negative future outlook and it's having an impact on their mental health. In simple terms the concern they have is that the issue is too big to fathom and overcome, and yet both Kal and Cooper assure us in this podcast that it's the little things we can all do daily that really matter and will help clean up our beautiful world.Today is world mental health day, so in honor of that, listen in to find out how just picking up 3 items of rubbish a day, and practicing gratitude while cleaning your teeth can greatly impact both the environment and your mental health.Follow KalInsta @kalglanznigwww.vote1kalglanznig.comwww.risingup.tvFollow CooperInsta @cooperchapman and @goodhumanspodwww.goodhumanfactory.comYou can follow us on all our socialsINSTAGRAM:@moveovermama_@emilyjadeokeeffe@millie_valentineYOUTUBE: @moveovermamaTIKTOK : @move_over_mamaThis episode is brought to you by Pavement. We are taking todays podcast on the road!We packed up the studio and joined the circus with the amazing opportunity to watch, get a backstage tour, and spend some time with the cast of LUZIA; the new Cirque Du Soleil show touring Australia.Luzia feels like Mardi Gras! From the minute you walk in, bright costumes and colours greet you with tricks and feats that transport you to another time. With a breathtaking Waterfall that opens from the ceiling and disappears into the stage making magical watery shapes as they fall, there is not a part of you that isn't mesmerised by LUZIA.But it’s the humans that are just extraordinary, the strength and fitness of these incredibly talented humans will blow your mind. You wonder why we ever thought animals at the circus was a great idea because humans and what we can do without our bodies, some hoops, ropes, a swing and an enormous treadmill is phenomenal. My favorite part was watching Millies face. She’d never seen a Cirque and a few minutes after starting she looked at me and said ‘WHAT IS THIS!” in utter wonder. Which leads us to todays Mama Mentor. It is one of the phenomenal Hoop Divers in the show, and we fell a little in love. His name is Melvin Diggs. He is the perfect Mama Mentor because as you will hear he almost didn’t have this extraordinary life touring the world and delighting audiences with his amazing hoop feats. He was expelled from school, hanging with the wrong friends, and could have ended up in jail! But at 15 years old, he was offered a lifeline and with the help from angels along the way he turned his life around and joined the most successful circus in the world.A little warning that we recorded this under the Big Top, so there is some background noise. Just a few planes landing at the Brisbane airport, we hope everyone had a great flight.Follow MelvinInstagram @m31_314Find your tickets to Cirque Du Soleil herewww.cirquedusoleil.comThankyou to www.rydges.com for the wonderful stay to watch the show and record the podcast. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a fashion designer and have a brand that sells all over the country and the world? Our mentor today is Sonia Stradiotto who is celebrating 35 years of being a fashion designer. She has dressed some of Australia’s most influential people, thrown the biggest fashion shows in the country and her style is pure glam.. sequins and sparkles, just like her personality. But it has not been easy. Starting with a hole in the wall shop, sewing everything herself, this designer had no free pass and built her empire on her own, then the pandemic hit and no-one had anywhere to go to wear her designs. This didn't deter her, she pivoted and started an at home fashion revolution and inspired everyone to take the rubbish out in a ball gown, she was one of the few that came out the other side of the pandemic stronger than beforeWith a book and documentary coming out soon be inspired by Sonia's story of starting small to building a lasting legacy. You can find Sonia's designs here https://soniastradiotto.com.au/ and follow her on all socials @soniastradiottocoutureThis Podcast is brought to you by Magnus Health: Magnus Health is a company that provides person-centred therapeutic, positive behaviour support and disability care services across Brisbane and Southeast Queensland within the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). Last week she decided to busk in Brisbanes Queen Street mall on the day Teddy Swims was performing at the Riverstage. She performed a few of his songs over and over and live streamed it on Tik Tok in the hope he would see it, or be in the area and see her and be compelled to watch her and even perform with her..Guess What it WORKED and now she has been on every radio station, TV station, socially blown up and now Performed on stage with him!Now INOXIA is with us, we can almost smell Teddy Swims hugs on her!!Lets Move Over to learn from INOXIA about how to manifest and hustle, how to earn a living through busking, and what Teddy Swims is really like..If you want to find out more about Inoxia you can follow her on her socials @Inoxiasounds look for the Blue Tick and see her perform there or find out where she will perform through her live streams. 16 years old and already her parents Boss! Meet Glitter Girl, aka Sophia Rizzo a Young Entrepreneur who started selling Glitter in the classroom at age 9 and now at 16 has a business with over 200 items in stock and ships globally. Big things are coming for Glitter Girl as a brand and we are so excited for what you can learn from todays podcast.Something Millie has touched on a few times in this podcast is how she has always been a little entrepreneur herself, selling lemons, lemonade, or pompoms out the front of our house. When that wasn't enough she started a little insta biz called Crystals for Kids, she is always hustling and thinking of ways to make money. I’ve never stopped her because I love her hustle, and also every cent she earns is money I don’t have to earn to spend on her! Todays mentor is a little similar but way ahead of the game. When Sophia decided to dress colourfully for school she had a “little idea” to bring pots of glitter to her school and charged her classmates $2 for the craft glitter which she ordered online. Despite getting in trouble at school, she pivoted and started to sell at markets and online, that business is now called Glitter Girl and making enough that both Sophia’s parents quit their jobs so they could work full-time FOR HER. In an Olympic year it made sense that in the first series of Move Over Mama I source some Olympians to mentor Millie and our Move over Mama listeners. Our guest this week is our second Olympian and we move from the track to the pool. I just love being around this guest. She is not only a great listener, she is warm, funny and caring. She makes everyone feel great which is a beautiful skill, and she is one of Australia's greatest Swimmers. There is nothing she can’t do. Once she retired the togs she transformed her life into a television presenter, motivational speaker, MC, fashion designer, and now a nut farmer…. She owns a macadamia farm!'Giaan Rooney' is passionate about many things, but more importantly she is passionate about helping the next generation understand their Lizard brain and how it can hinder success and how they can master it to become a champion. Find out what she is talking about in this heartwarming and inspiring episode of Move Over Mama. You can follow Giaan on socials @giaanrooney and catch her talking all things swimming on Channel 9. Our next guest in the Move Over Mama podcast is an Olympic Champion, a Dancing Star, and Sports News Reader and our first OAM. Sally Pearson. When she was only 14 she started to get noticed by the country for her Athletic ability winning the Australian Youth 100m Hurdles. From there went on to become one of Australia’s most successful female athletic Olympic champions winning a Gold Medal in London, breaking records in the win, a Silver in Bejing, 3 Commonwealth Games Medals and many other world championships. More recently she swapped running shoes for dancing heels for Dancing with the Stars on Channel 7 and now reads the Sports News for Gold Coast News. There is so much to learn from Sally Pearson. Firstly how hard it is to train your whole life, only to have all that training focused into just 12 seconds of time, and how to reinvent yourself when one career ends and its time to start another one…Raised by a single mum who worked two jobs to fund her dreams, Sally's love of winning, learning new things, and saying YES paid off and she is living her best life. Our favorite part of this interview was hearing when she was able to tell her Mum she didn't need to work two jobs anymore when she finally got a sponsor. With twists and turns along the way, because no journey is ever easy, Sally answers all Millies questions and imparts her wisdom on the next generation. A must listen.Keep up with Sally on her socials @SallyPearson look for the blue tick and watch her nightly reading the sport on 7 News Gold CoastThis episode bought to you by @MouldMenGot Mould?
