Description

A filmmaker, politician, environmentalist, pro-surfer, mental health advocate, podcaster and businessman join us on the Mama Couch to help us with our environmental anxiety.

Sounds like a huge team of people sitting on the couch with us huh! But in fact it is just two amazing 20 something-year-old guys, and the above is only SOME of what is on their resumes.

So let's start with Kal Glanznig. From fundraising to get solar for his high school as a teen, to being the youngest elected councillor to the Sutherland Shire Council, Kal has won Young Citizen of the Year in 2020 and Environmental Citizen of the Year and is an impressive young leader who has represented Australia at the UN Climate Conference as a delegate and speaker. He recently made a film called Rising UP which is out in November.

Cooper Chapman is an Ex Pro Surfer (Top 100 in the world) who now has his own podcast called the The Good Humans Podcast and he is the founder of The Good Human Factory which is an organisation and movement to connect people with simple tools to improve their wellbeing and thrive in life. His workshops have reached over 35,000 students and 10,000 corporate participants since 2020.

Together with Surfers for Climate Change (https://surfersforclimate.org.au/) they have teamed up to deal with the environmental anxiety young Australians feel today. Over three quarters of young Australians aged 16-25yrs are concerned about climate change, but feel powerless, aren't taking action, have a negative future outlook and it's having an impact on their mental health. In simple terms the concern they have is that the issue is too big to fathom and overcome, and yet both Kal and Cooper assure us in this podcast that it's the little things we can all do daily that really matter and will help clean up our beautiful world.

Today is world mental health day, so in honor of that, listen in to find out how just picking up 3 items of rubbish a day, and practicing gratitude while cleaning your teeth can greatly impact both the environment and your mental health.
