In this episode we speak with Jane Henry, a serial entrepreneur, about widespread PPE issues within the civil, commercial and industrial work environments. She will share her mission of saving lives and attracting more women into careers that are experiencing labor shortages. The founder and CEO of SeeHerWork, began her career as a consultant with Accenture, and then later worked for Enron. During which time, her “entrepreneurial addiction,” as she calls it, became too strong to resist. She decided to leave consulting and become the transformational business leader she is today. First, she founded her firm in 2002, Xcution, a management consulting company specializing in organizational change management and leadership trainin. In 2016 Jane decided to expand her expertise and began to study for her MBA at Rice University. While at Rice she was able to research first-hand the effects that ill-fitting work gear had on women in trade careers. During this period Hurricane Harvey hit and Jane took on the role of general contractor for her home, which had to be completely rebuilt. Her interactions alongside the women helping with the construction provided her with deep insights into the challenges their work gear presented for them. In response, she launched SeeHerWork. Her mission is to design clothing and equipment that will allow women to be “Safe, Strong, and Unrestrained.” As the female tradeswomen she worked with would say “We’re tired of ‘Pink it and shrink it. We want to perform.”
In this episode Pamela Kan, 2018’s WBE Star for WBEC-Pacific, discusses her experience as a thought leader in the field of manufacturing as well as if being a female in non-traditional filed women has shaped her approach. Pamela joined Bishop-Wisecarver in April of 1991. In May of 2000, the Board of Directors appointed Pamela to the role of President. In 2009, Pamela gained controlling interest in the company. In 2015, Pamela led the first acquisition for the company with the asset purchase of Specialty Motions, Inc. In 2017, Pamela joined the Women in Manufacturing (WiM) Corporate Partnership Council. WiM is a national association dedicated to supporting, promoting and inspiring women who are pursuing or have chosen a career in the manufacturing industry. In 2018 Kan was elected as a founding bard member for the Association of Manufacturers Bay Area. Pamela has completed in B.S. in Family and Consumer Resources from The University of Arizona. She has also successfully finished the Owner President Management Program from Harvard Business School and the Hazardous Material Management Certificate from UC Berkeley Extension.
