Being the lone Republican on an 11 member City Council in the 11th largest city in the United States isn't an easy task. Mackenzie Kelly is a collaborative conservative who works well with others and wants to get to know the people who work in and across the political spectrum. Politics can be overwhelming, but On the Dais helps to dispel some of that feeling by offering hope and understanding of decision-makers with each episode. A warm and inclusive host, Councilmember Kelly seeks to reimagine a more connected society along with guests and listeners of the show. She invites us all to take responsibility for bettering our communities and the world and gives us resources to reflect, become more informed, and participate.

She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin and became a member of Governor Ann Richard's administration. Around the same time, she met her wife and became a realtor. She's now serving in the Texas State House of Representatives. In episode six of On the Dais: Conversations with Councilmember Kelly we hear from Richard Smith, a candidate for Austin City Council in District 8.  Richard is a native Texan who lives in district 8 in the City of Austin. He is an intellectual property attorney and former Administrative Patent Judge. Richard was born in Dallas, Texas. He married his wife Kathleen in 1978. Together they have two children and four grandchildren. After graduating from college, Richard became a state-certified science teacher and taught high school physical science and biology in Houston. In the fall of 1979, Richard enrolled at the University of Houston Law School. He has been an attorney for approximately 40 years. In 2015, Richard was appointed by the Secretary of Commerce to the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. He served until March 2021. In episode five of On the Dais: Conversations with Councilmember Kelly we hear from the Austin EMS Association President, Selena Xie.  Selena grew up in Dallas, TX. She went to Amherst College, majoring in Economics and Political Science. She moved to Austin after college to work as an Americorps VISTA member at Texas Impact tracking disaster relief bills after Hurricane Harvey. She decided to go back to direct service as a medic with Austin-Travis County EMS. She is a Clinical Specialist and has worked at ATCEMS for 7 years now and has previously served on the Workforce Committee, Bargaining Committee, Political Action Committee, and Executive Board. In episode three of On the Dais: Conversations with Councilmember Kelly we hear from a local land use attorney, Richard Suttle. Richard Suttle represents clients before state, county, and municipal bodies. His practice involves the handling of land use and real estate development, as well as environmental issues related to the Endangered Species Act as it affects real estate development. He's also one of the very first celebrities to personally create and administer websites. He is the co-host of the No Agenda show. In the 2000's he started podcasting, which, due to his efforts, got him the nickname "Podfather".
