Ep. 262: Revolutionizing Cognitive Therapy | David Burns, M.D.

This was the most meaningful podcast that I've recorded to date, as I was joined by the legend Dr. David Burns.  David is a psychiatrist and author known for his contributions to cognitive behavioral therapy. His book "Feeling Good: The New Mood Therapy" explores the philosophical underpinnings of how our thoughts influence our emotions and behaviors. As a professor emeritus at Stanford University, Burns continues to examine the intersection of psychology and philosophy, particularly in how individuals can rationally approach and overcome psychological challenges. His books have transformed millions of lives, while his "Feeling Good Podcast" reaches countless listeners worldwide. In this episode, we discuss the underpinnings of TEAM-CBT, how David is incorporating this model into an app (Feeling Great), and we role play a therapy session.Enjoy.David's website:https://feelinggood.com/The Feeling Great app:https://www.feelinggreat.com/Feeling Good podcast:https://pod.link/1171155453David's other books!https://feelinggood.com/books/Follow me:https://www.instagram.com/josh_philwl/

Ep. 252: Beyond the Sets & Reps | Newton Cheng, Director of Health + Performance at Google

As coaches, sport scientists, and athletes, we love intellectualizing our sport. There is an attempt to understand as much as possible so we can prescribe training to maximize performance. Behind all of this, the person carrying out this training can get lost amidst a myriad labels.  In this episode, I sit down with Newton Cheng, National champion powerlifter and the director of performance and health at Google, to discuss his life's journey. This journey involves burnout, anxiety and depressive symptoms, and understanding who he is and what he values. After struggling during the start of the pandemic, he turned his life around by doing deep work, finding his values, and pursuing them. This show is dedicated to the people who compete, coach, and study the sport, but are much more than that.Follow Newton:https://www.instagram.com/newtoncheng/https://www.linkedin.com/in/newtoncheng/Sign up for our coaching mentorship group -- our next call is 6/21 at 12 pm EDT!https://coachlogik-mentorship.mn.coSubscribe to my Patreon to support the show!!!Philosophical Weightlifting | Creating Weightlifting podcasts and sharing knowledge.Follow me and get coaching:https://www.instagram.com/josh_philwl/Weightlifting House:https://www.weightliftinghouse.com/ code PHILWL for 10% offOnyx:https://www.onyxstraps.com/ with code PHILWL for 10% offhttps://www.instagram.com/onyx_straps/Virus:https://virusintl.com code PHILWL for 10% offEarth Fed Muscle:https://www.earthfedmuscle.com/ with code PHILWL for 10% off
