Description
Aging. Everyone’s doing it, right? And it’s a hell of a lot better than the alternative. So why is it so often portrayed as something for women to fear and fight, rather than embrace and celebrate?
The Aging Project is proud to present this trail-blazing podcast series that flips the bird to the notion that women in their forties and above should be either slowly fading into the background, or in a constant battle to look younger. We want to show you how we can all choose to age fabulously and without apology, and to own our age with pride - with great health, style and vitality.
Hosted by Shelley Craft, the first season of The Aging Project podcast features candid, no-holds-barred interviews with twelve of the world’s leading and most inspiring minds in the field of aging well.
Join Shelley as she discovers how everything from nutrition to meditation, style to gut health (and lots more!), can not only positively impact our journey into middle-life and beyond, but help make it the best time of our lives.
We’re all in this together, ladies - let’s learn how to do it WELL.

Ronni Kahn AO is one of the most inspirational women you’ll ever meet. A passionate social entrepreneur, author and activist, Ronni is the founder and CEO of food rescue charity, Oz Harvest - an organization that fights food waste and feeds hungry people all over Australia.
Originally from South Africa, where she experienced the brutal reality of apartheid, she was raised in a socialist commune in Israel before finally moving to Australia, and finding an incredibly different way of life. Years later, as the owner of a successful events company, Ronni hit mid-life and became acutely aware of the amount of food that was being wasted at each event. As a way to mitigate the issue, she began hand delivering the untouched food to homeless shelters, and from this initial action, Oz Harvest was born, and so too was Ronni’s mission and life purpose.
Oz Harvest has now provided 195 million meals to hungry people, and is a powerful force in combatting Australia’s food waste issue, meaning that not only has Ronni created a social organization, but also an environmental one that’s making a tangible difference to the health of our planet.
Join Shelley for episode #11 of The Aging Project Podcast, as she chats to Ronni about:

We’ve all heard the old saying that the eyes are the windows to the soul, but our podcast guest this week wants you to know that they’re also the windows to your overall health – and to how well you’re aging.
In this week’s episode, we’re asking what our eyes can tell us, and how we can maintain optimal eye health as we get older. To help us answer those questions is Dr. Rani Banik – a world-leading board-certified neuro-ophthalmologist who’s joining us all the way from New York City. Dr. Rani specializes in the intricate connections between our eyes and our brain, and is an authority on how our lifestyle and dietary choices can impact our eye and brain health as we age. I loved this episode – Dr. Rani’s passion for her work is so evident in her chat with Shelley, and the discussion really got me thinking about my eye health, which has been something I must admit I haven’t thought that much about ‘till now. The episode is now ready for you to listen to – I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
I hope you were as inspired by last week’s incredible chat with Dr. Yael Joffe as Shelley and I were. I know I for one have been incorporating some raw cruciferous veggies into my meals to turn on those amazing detoxifying genes!
And finally, thanks to all of you who’ve been tagging @theagingproject on social media – we love seeing the impact The Aging Project is having on our community!

On the podcast this week:
‘Our eyes are a window to our health’ - DR. RANI BANIK\
Dr. Rani Banik has been a neuro-ophthalmologist caring for the eye/brain connection of her patients for more than twenty years, but it wasn’t until western medicine failed to cure her own debilitating migraines that she started thinking there must be something more. After doing her own research into alternative therapies, and then specialist training in functional medicine, Dr. Rani now combines traditional medical and surgical methods with lifestyle and dietary modifications to give her patients a holistic approach to improving their eye and brain health.
Shelley’s chat with Dr. Rani covers a lot of ground – from how to eat for good eye health, to blue light, to the most common eye issue for women over forty, and much more.
Enjoy ladies – and here’s to good eye health!
‘LET’S AGE WELL TOGETHER’ SEASON TWO CHALLENGE SERIES
This week’s challenge:
Increase your Omega 3 consumption this week. Try to fit in some oily fish like salmon, or plant-based options like chia seeds, or hemp seeds.
Dr. Rani mentioned we need over 25 nutrients to keep our eyes healthy, and the best way to get them is to eat as many different coloured fruits and veggies as possible. She suggested if we eat a different colour with each meal, we’ll get close to those 25 nutrients over the course of a week. Try that!
Make a note of the changes in your vision (e.g. floaters, peripheral vision, flashing lights) and discuss them with your doctor or ophthalmologist.
Take positive action and book an appointment with a neuro-ophthalmologist. Here is the website Dr. Rani mentioned to help you find one near you: https://www.nanosweb.org/
Reflect on the changes you’ve made over the last four weeks and do something nice for yourself to celebrate. Making changes to long-held habits isn’t always easy, but by doing it little bit by little bit, big progress is possible! We’re so glad you’re here with us on this aging well journey!
What we’re loving this week:
This week we’re loving Dr. Rani’s Instagram page! She offers so many great tips for maintaining eye and brain health, and she’s so engaging and easy to watch. Check it out here: https://www.instagram.com/dr.ranibanik/?hl=en You Must Try It The launch of our new sister site is getting closer!
