Dr. Shanahan is the leading authority on nutrition and human metabolism. A board-certified Family Physician with over 20 years of clinical experience, and NY Times bestselling author of The FatBurn Fix, Deep Nutrition and Food Rules, her expertise is fixing the underlying problems that cause metabolic damage and inflammation, leading to autoimmunity, weight gain, diabetes, cancer and accelerated aging processes. Her passion is helping people feel their best. Her new book - Dark Calories: How Vegetable Oils Destroy Our Health and How We Can Get It Back is available now.  Her book Deep Nutrition – Why Your Genes Need Traditional Food was voted one of the Best Health and Wellness Books of 2017 by Sports Illustrated and has a blurb from the late Kobe Bryant, former NBA player with the L.A Lakers.  “[Deep Nutrition is] a different philosophy, It's something that we all had to adjust to, but we trust Dr. Cate implicitly. I've seen great results from it from when I started doing it―it’s worked well for me.” --Kobe Bryant Note: In the EU (vs USA) Rapeseed oil can be a cheaper and decent source of healthy fats but tends to be highly processed, which may lower its nutritional value and alter its health effects. When possible, try to select cold-pressed or minimally refined rapeseed oil, both of which retain most of this oil's original nutrients and benefits. Here are some of the things we talked about in today’s show:  Metabolic damage – what it is and why we need to avoid it Insulin resistance and why it can be so difficult to lose weight if eating too many dark calories The “Hateful 8”: cottonseed, corn, canola, soybean, sunflower, grapeseed, rice bran and safflower oil and better alternatives.  The role vegetable oils play in depleting antioxidants which leads to us ageing faster.  The misconceptions that metabolism always slows down with age Connecting your food with nature and how to eat with intention. And more..    Today’s podcast is sponsored by my certified nutrition course https://briankeanefitness.com/nutrition-course   Her book links:  https://drcate.com/books/ (Website) Cate Shanahan, M.D. Eat your way to optimal health.   Solo mindset podcast You’re better to be at the bottom of the ladder against the right wall than halfway up the ladder against the wrong wall.  01:43 Comparison is a never-ending hamster wheel and it will spin out of control if you let it. 13:09 If you’re tired, learn to rest, not to quit. 28:55 If your reaction is hysterical, it's possibly historical. 36:54 What’s meant for you won’t pass you (even if it doesn’t feel like that at the time) and what didn’t work out, possibly did if you give it enough time. 44:11 Just be nicer to yourself, life is hard enough at the best of times, and beating yourself up rarely helps.  50:08 You can’t control anything that happens to you, but you can control how you react to it. 55:58   Today’s podcast is sponsored by my business mentorship and coaching program: https://briankeanefitness.com/mentorship-and-business-coaching     BKF Online Coaching Program:  https://briankeanefitness.com/bkf-online

Thais is a best-selling author, counsellor, speaker, and leader in the personal development field.  She founded The Personal Development School to provide a more accessible, authentic way to transform your life. Utilizing the Gibson Integrated Attachment Theory™, she empowers individuals to overcome their attachment styles and reprogram any limiting thoughts and behaviors, creating long-lasting and enlightening change. She has been recognized by Psychology Today, Time Business News, The New York Post, Yahoo! These teachings have been distilled into the in-depth programs, courses, and modules inside of The Personal Development School. Here are some of things we talked about in today’s podcast: Attachment styles are subconscious rules we have for love and connection that are formed in childhood. Our subconscious mind plays a significant role in our beliefs, thoughts, emotions, and actions. Core wounds from childhood are stored in the subconscious mind and can impact our relationships. Reprogramming core wounds can be done through techniques like autosuggestion and meeting our unmet needs.  Coping mechanisms are subconscious strategies to meet our needs or provide relief from negative thoughts and beliefs. Understanding and addressing core wounds is crucial for developing healthier coping mechanisms. Setting boundaries around coping mechanisms can be beneficial for emotional well-being. Practicing vulnerability in small increments through exposure work can help individuals overcome their fear of unpacking uncomfortable emotions and experiences. Self-compassion is essential on the journey of healing, and taking responsibility for personal growth is key to creating positive change. Today's podcast is sponsored by my BKF Online Program:  https://briankeanefitness.com/bkf-online   Russell is an MD and Anxiety/Neuroscience Expert.  As a physician, somatic intuitive, certified yoga instructor, meditation teacher, and a professional stand-up comedian who struggled with crippling anxiety for decades and has finally healed, he is here to personally guide people through non-traditional treatments for anxiety.  Using a combination of neuroscience, somatic work and psychedelics, he’s uncovered a brand-new way of approaching and healing anxiety in himself and his patients. Instead of your anxiety completely controlling you, he will show you how to completely control your anxiety. He is also the author of the book Anxiety Rx A New Prescription for Anxiety Relief from the Doctor Who Created It.   Here are some of the things we talked about in today’s podcast:  Anxiety is deeply rooted in the body and requires a somatic approach for effective treatment. The alarm anxiety cycle explains the connection between trauma, body sensations, and anxious thoughts. Psychedelics and alternative therapies offer potential solutions for anxiety relief, but somatic therapy is a crucial foundation for healing. Understanding the body-mind disconnect and addressing childhood trauma are essential for managing anxiety. The resistance to body-based therapy and the role of addictions in avoiding self-love are important considerations in anxiety treatment. Psychedelics can be a potential treatment for anxiety, but the timing and approach are crucial. Anxiety creates a sense of control, and psychedelics take away that sense of control, making it challenging for individuals with anxiety. Uncertainty is the foundation of healing, and embracing uncertainty is essential for overcoming anxiety.   Book : https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anxiety-Rx-Prescription-Relief-Created/dp/1734426543/ref=asc_df_1734426543/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=499348463277&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=11067959462576997982&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=2372&hvtargid=pla-1001395589482&psc=1&mcid=2c7796345a5d38529003224b9d23db83&th=1&psc=1   (Website) home (mykajabi.com) (LinkedIn) Dr. Russell Kennedy - Russell G Kennedy B.Sc, MD | LinkedIn (Youtube) Dr Russell Kennedy - THE ANXIETY MD - YouTube (Tiktok) Dr. Russell Kennedy (@theanxietymd) | TikTok (Facebook) Facebook (Podcast and most recent Social media post) Russell Kennedy, MD + Anxiety/Neuroscience Expert (@theanxietymd) • Instagram photos and videos
David is one of the world’s foremost experts on grief and loss.    His experience with thousands of people on the edge of life and death has taught him the secrets to living a happy and fulfilled life, even afterlife’s tragedies.    He is the author of six books, including his most recent bestselling book, Finding Meaning: The Sixth Stage of Grief. He co authored two books with Elisabeth Kubler Ross, including On Grief and Grieving updated her 5 stages for grief. His first book, The Needs of The Dying received praise from Saint (Mother) Teresa.   David’s personal experience as a child witnessing a mass shooting while his mother was dying in a hospital helped him begin his journey. For most of his life, David has taught physicians, nurses, counselors, police, and first responders about the end of life, trauma, and grief.    He facilitates talks, workshops and retreats for those experiencing grief. However, despite his vast knowledge on grief, his life was turned upside down by the sudden death of his twenty-one-year-old son. It inspired him to write his newest book, Finding Meaning.   He is someone whose work has had a profound impact on my life in recent months and the world is truly a better place because of him being here.  He is also the founder of www.grief.com which has over five million visits yearly from 167 countries.   Here are some of things we talked about in today’s podcast:  The worst loss is the one you're going through; comparing losses only harms yourself. Heartbreak is a form of grief, and all endings are a type of death. The stages of grief are not a linear process; everyone experiences them differently. Changing the story we tell ourselves about grief can help in the healing process. Grief must be witnessed by others; isolation only prolongs the healing journey. Our true essence is love, and all other voices are our old wounds. Allow yourself to walk through the pain and face it, as running from it will only prolong the healing process. Grief is messy and non-linear; it's important to allow the messiness and be with where you are. Be with your grief but don't let it become your identity; find healing by not letting past events control your decisions and actions. Finding meaning in grief and loss is about who we become and how we show up in the world.       (Website) Grief.com (Instagram) David Kessler (@iamdavidkessler) • Instagram photos and videos (Twitter) David Kessler (@IamDavidKessler) / X (twitter.com) (Facebook) https://www.facebook.com/IamDavidKessler (LinkedIn) David Kessler, FACHE - Grief.com | LinkedIn (Youtube) David Kessler - YouTube (Pinterest) David Kessler (davidkessler) - Profile | Pinterest
