In this season 3 finale of The Collective Rx, I share a pivotal shift in focus for the podcast moving forward: centering the experiences of women working in healthcare.Over the past few years, I’ve noticed recurring patterns that add an extra layer of stress for women working in this field: perfectionism, people-pleasing, harsh self-criticism, invisible responsibilities, and the double shift of caregiving. While not unique to women, these patterns are especially pervasive and deeply shape how we experience our work and our lives. In this episode, you’ll hear:Why I’m pivoting my podcast to focus on supporting women in healthcareThe six patterns I see women carrying most often, and how they impact well-beingA vision of what healthcare could look like if women showed up replenished, resourced, and supportedHow this shift is about more than individual resilience. It’s about transforming the culture of healthcare itselfThank you for being part of this journey, whether you’ve listened to every episode or you’re tuning in for the first time! Episode Summary: In today’s episode, we explore the powerful idea that in order to change your life, you must be willing to challenge the beliefs you have about yourself. Our identity—how we see and define ourselves—has a profound impact on our actions, our results, and ultimately, the life we live. Whether it's a belief about being "not disciplined" or "painfully shy," these limiting self-conceptions can hold us back from reaching our true potential. This episode offers insights on how to break free from these self-imposed limitations, shift your mindset, and take empowering actions that align with the person you want to become. Key Takeaways: Identity Shapes Actions: How you perceive yourself dictates the actions you take, which in turn shapes your life’s outcomes. Challenging Limiting Beliefs: Identifying and challenging negative beliefs about yourself—like being "not disciplined" or "painfully shy"—is the first step toward real transformation. Power of Self-Talk: Use affirmations and self-encouragement to shift your identity in a positive direction. Real-Life Example: Learn how the host overcame their own limiting belief of being "painfully shy" by taking small, intentional actions to see themselves as "someone who could strike up conversations." Actionable Strategies: Practical advice on how to start viewing yourself differently and taking aligned actions that reinforce your new identity. Practical Tips: Start small: Identify one area of your life where you’re holding onto a limiting belief (e.g., "I’m not disciplined" or "I’m bad with money"). Shift your self-talk: Use affirmations like “I’m building my discipline” or “I’m someone who respects their money” to reinforce a new identity. Take action: Begin taking small steps toward the change you desire—each action builds evidence that you are who you believe yourself to be. Related episodes: Episode 10. Upgrading your self-talk Call to Action: As we approach the New Year, take this time to reflect on the beliefs that are holding you back. Are you willing to challenge them? Picture this: you're going through your daily routine, but something feels off. You're like, "Am I living, or just ticking off checkboxes?" It's that nagging feeling that there's more to life than what you're currently experiencing. If this resonates, you’ll want to listen to this episode of The Collective Rx podcast (which also happens to be the kick-off for Season 3!). I talk about how societal expectations, fear, and old habits can keep us in this "exist, don't live" mode. But fear not! There’s a way to break out of this ”autopilot” way of life and start making intentional choices within your career as a healthcare professional and in your personal life. Through some real talk about my own journey, I dig into the difference between existing and really living. Think about it: are you following a script written by someone else, or are you the author of your own story? Over the next two episodes, I get into the nitty-gritty of self-awareness, taking ownership of our choices, and embracing change. It's about shaking off those expectations and fears that hold us back and stepping into a life that feels authentic and fulfilling. So, join me as I share practical tips and insights on going from "meh" to "heck yeah!" in your everyday life. What’s the best that could happen? The beginning of a new year is typically a moment when people look ahead and set goals or intentions for the next 12 months.  We envision new possibilities and feel into the hope and joy that it brings us. As the excitement of this settles in though, the brain does something VERY interesting… It imagines all the possible worst-case scenarios.  (insert sad trombone noise - womp womp womp) It imagines all the ways you could fail and make a fool of yourself. And it comes up with reasons why this idea isn’t as good as you initially thought and that you should give up this silly fantasy. Can you relate? If so, you’re not alone! As humans, we all have this negative bias that views uncertainty as a potential threat. And as healthcare professionals, we have been trained to audit for errors and possible problems. Therefore when we combine the two, it often leads to imagining the worst-case scenarios whenever we envision going after a new goal, habit, or anything that’s outside our comfort zone. Fortunately, we can train our minds to overcome the fears and doubts created by these thoughts and redirect our brains to consider the best-case scenario so that we can move forward to the kind of life we deeply desire. Dr. Delphine Jeong, a traveling dentist and a certified practitioner of sound and energy medicine, shares her perspective on how healthcare professionals can better take care of themselves.  In this episode, we touch upon: What led her to leave her corporate dental practice to go to the North, along with her burnout episode that left her lying unconscious on her bathroom floor [time stamp: 2:03] Her observations on the North and the difference she felt between working in an individualist Western society focused on productivity, versus in a heart-based community that’s connected to the land and the people [time stamp: 13:45] The importance of cleansing and protecting our energy as healthcare providers work in an environment that’s filled with the fears, worries, and pains of our patients  [time stamp: 24:05] Finding purpose in her dental practice by reconnecting with her past lives  [time stamp: 35:30] The misunderstood but powerful gift of being an empath in a healthcare system  [time stamp: 41:37] If you’re new to energy medicine, I invite you to listen to this episode with an open mind and a sense of curiosity. Delphine does a wonderful job of explaining it in tangible terms and provides us with practical tools we can implement in our daily lives as clinicians so that we can thrive in the demanding field of healthcare. ---- The Collective Rx Podcast is a wellness and personal development podcast offering healthcare professionals practical tools and strategies to manage stress, build resilience, master their thoughts, and transform their inner critic into a supportive ally. Healthcare professionals aren’t very good at caring for their own bodies. We often skip meals or eat quickly at our desks to get ahead on our to-do list, we operate on caffeine but don’t actually hydrate ourselves, we lack sleep and we don’t listen to our bladders when it’s shouting for relief. (There’s a running gag that healthcare workers don’t pee… and there’s some unfortunate truth behind it.) The problem with ignoring our bodies’ needs for a prolonged period of time is that we risk running ourselves into the ground or developing serious illnesses.  That’s why in this episode, I share with you 4 ways you can reconnect with your bodies in order to prevent accumulated stress and burnout, reduce your risk of illness, and develop your ability to make better decisions by tuning into your body’s signals. Because developing a supportive relationship with your body is key to thriving in the demanding field of healthcare.
