Today's episode is a bittersweet one, we have decided to no longer record and publish a podcast. It's for a good reason, we saw that the podcast was putting a strain on our friendship and we had to make a choice. We started this podcast because we are friends and wanted to grow together. Podcasts are hard, they take a lot of time, there is a lot of background work that has to be done. We set out to grow and that's what happened we got very busy and it was showing a strain on our friendship. Thank you to everyone who has been on this journey with us, it was amazing. Though the podcast may no longer be a thing, we are still here and on the internet, if anyone has questions or needs advice feel free to email or DM us. We are very upfront that we don't know much, but we hope that what we do know will help you. SEO, What is it? What does it entail? This week we delve not that deeply into this topic. We're barely scratching the surface because there's so much information when it comes to SEO. We talk about how to optimize your website to work for your SEO instead of against it. Does Instagram or any social media help you with backlinks? Also, what are backlinks? We've all heard how important it is to have a website for your photography business. Nobody taught us about marketing and branding in photography school. We picked up a few things over the years through trial and error, podcasts, books, and online courses, but we're still figuring it all out. Learning how to brand yourself is vital to marketing your photography business. We often confuse one for the other and at the end of the day, our heads are swimming with questions and more questions. Articles tell us that in order to find the right client and market to that client, you have to know what your brand is. What does that mean though? In this episode, we discuss how we each developed our brands, resources that helped us along the way, and exciting news for next year. Can photography be used as a form of therapy? Is it not a form of expression and a way of communicating our thoughts and feelings? One photograph can tell a reader everything the photographer struggles to put into words. One photograph can soften the toughest scars. Photography connects people together through shared experiences.Fine art photographer and actor, Ransom Ashley used photography as a way of healing from dark memories and traumatic events he suffered while growing up in a small conservative town in Louisiana. Inspired by the vivid imagery of cinematography, Ransom’s work closely resembles stills from a film reel. Ransom’s work is very personal, soul-baring and boldly vulnerable. In this episode, we discuss how Ransom found his light in the darkest time of his life and how he found his place in the photography world after years of not fitting in. We explore topics around vulnerability, getting published, and using our past as inspiration to our art. By trusting his gut, finding his confidence, and adding the numbers, Mark has found his definition of success. What does success mean to you? When you start a business, chances are you will wear all the hats. But as your business grows it becomes more difficult to juggle the responsibilities that come with running a business. The hardest thing to accept is that we don't have to know and do everything. It's perfectly acceptable to pass the baton to people who have the skills we lack so that our business can grow. Brio Cooney of Brio Photography started her business over 20 years ago, as her business and family grew, she realized that in order "to do everything" she needed to build a team for her business. We sat down with Brio for an interview about the challenges of working with her husband, running a team and learning to trust others with her vision so that she could take care of her family on her terms.
