A new report by the Hospital for Sick Children says half of kids eight to 12 and 70 per cent of adolescents reported clinically significant depressive symptoms.   That has one Hamilton MPP very concerned.   Guest: Monique Taylor, NDP Mental Health and Addictions critic.     The past year has been unprecedented, with the pandemic presenting a significant impact on health care, especially the way in which health care professionals treat people with diabetes.   A recent study from Diabetes Canada suggests complications related to diabetes lihave increased due to reduced access to in-person care and services.   A diabetic foot ulcer caused David to wear an air cast for 14 months over the course of the pandemic. Dedicated to meeting the mental health needs of racialized youth, YouThrive is a new program offered by the Youth Wellness Centre of St. Joseph`s Healthcare Hamilton in partnership with Thrive Child and Youth Trauma Services and Hamilton Regional Indian Centre. Providing peer support and culturally adapted care, YouThrive will help Black, Indigenous, People of Colour (BIPOC) in dealing with issues specific to racially marginalized youth.   Guests: Lisa Jeffs, Manager of YWC   Jaleesa Bygrave, YouThrive clinician.     Boots on the Ground, is a not-for-profit organization that offers third party peer mental health support by First Responders for First Responders all over Ontario.   Boots has seen the demand for its services spike recently with March being one of the busiest months ever for the 24-hour helpline it runs.  Boots is expanding its services to include nurses as well, who have been hit hard by the pandemic.   Guest: Founder Dave McLennan.     Troy Wagner, who is a member of the Hamilton Professional Fire Fighters Association (HPFFA) - Local 288, made his 50th blood donation to Canadian Blood Services.  Troy made this donation during the annual Sirens for Life blood donor campaign in which firefighters, police and paramedics participate in a friendly competition to see who can recruit the most donors.

Morneau Shepell announced the February results of its monthly Mental Health Index.   It indicated that Canadians' mental health continued to decline for the eleventh consecutive month.   The Index showed an -11.5 point drop from the pre-2020 benchmark of 75, led by increased feelings of depression.   Guest:  Paula Allan, global leader and senior vice president, Morneau Shepell.       National Caregiver Day in Canada takes place on April 6.   A former caregiver looked after his young wife for 11 years before she passed away from breast cancer in 2009.  After his wife's passing, the 55-year-old former investment banker, transformed his life path to become a Life Coach to caregivers.     Guest: Robert Pardi.     Like many people who are diagnosed with Parkinson's, she struggled with accepting her new reality.   It took five years before doctors were able to officially diagnose her with the disease at the age of 31.   In the early stages of her diagnosis, she hid it from her family, friends, and coworkers.
