There is no doubt that this situation of home isolation is extremely difficult for a lot of people. Yet, the way some social media are approaching strategies to help us through this might be making matters worse instead of better. In this special episode of the Imperfect Athlete, I talk about my way of dealing with this situation, my opinion about how we should deal with it, and maybe just a little bit of a different voice to help people deal with their imperfections.

In this first part of my conversation with athletic therapist, coach and clinic owner Tony Carbonette, we discuss what mistakes made Tony want to become an athletic therapist and how they shaped his philosophy, what the difference is between working on professional athletes and 'normal' people and how that can impair your performance and how the US athletic system differs from the Canadian system. Oh, and we briefly talk about the corona virus...
I always enjoy talking to Tony and I am sure you will find his insights and stories just as much fun as I do. Since everyone is in isolation, the sound quality is not always perfect, I hope you understand.

When a team isn't performing as it should in professional sports, there is always one thing you can be sure that is going to happen: the coach gets fired. This strategy has become so common that is is not hard to predict when a coaches' time is up.
In this episode of JWK Explains, I want to have a look at the interesting situation. Is firing the coach actually a viable strategy to boost your team's performance? And what are some of the proposed reason behind this move?

We discuss a bunch of topics including how to keep growing your skills, the challenges of being a full-time writer and what lessons learned through sport can be applied to a writer.
I really loved this conversation about a topic I did not know that much about myself. I definitely learned a lot and I hope you will too.

In this solo episode, I dive deeper into the neuroscience of mistakes, talking about one particular characteristic of our brains: noise. A concept that at first glance seems a weird blip in evolution turns out to have an important function in helping our brain perform optimally.
Mistakes are not only important to athletes. Coaches make and learn from their mistakes all the time. In this episode, I talk to cross country skiing and rugby coach Geoff Tomlinson about some of the biggest mistakes he made as a coach, and how they have helped him to become the coach he is now.
In this episode, I talk with PhD candidate and co-founder of the Canadian Centre for Mental Health in Sport: Krista van Slingerland. We talk about her career as a varsity basketball player and her work regarding mental health issues in sport.
In this episode, I talk to Team Canada Volleyball player and Olympian Justin Duff about how he got into volleyball, what it is like to be a professional athlete in Europe but mostly, about the mistakes that made him into the player and person he is today.
In this episode, I have a conversation with fellow mental performance consultant Laura Parrott. Together, we try to answer the question: what if an athlete want to be perfect? by talking about perfectionism. This concept is surrounded by a lot of misconception and misuse. Hopefully, by the end of this episode, you understand perfectionism a little bit better and have some tools to help you deal with you mistakes effectively.
In the first proper episode of The Imperfect Athlete Podcast I talk to Derek Watkins, a former national high jumping champion. We discuss what mistakes he made throughout his career and in the end, Derek has some really strong advice for young athletes!
Nobody changes their behaviour after a successful play, win or season. Only when a mistake is made, people tend to change their behaviour. Yet, when we talk about athletes, we mostly talk about their achievements. I want to change that by interviewing athletes, coaches and other support staff and ask them about the biggest mistakes they made in their careers, but most importantly, how those mistakes made them into the person they are today.
