Description
THE SPACIOUS WAY is a collection of ideas and conversations dedicated to supporting humans to hold space, to rise above struggle and to find calm in this chaotic world. HOSTED BY Social Scientist, Bec Jeffrey, this podcast is for people who believe, or even want to believe, that life can be experienced with a rich and deep quality of spaciousness and presence but who, like so many of us, struggle with the very human condition that robs us of that experience. SERIES ONE begins the conversation. Comprising of a collection of 'what if' questions, series one is designed to crack the door a little on our long-held beliefs, assumptions and mindsets and to challenge the patterns that might be holding us back from living a spacious life. This episode, inspired by poet David Whyte, is an invitation to drop into the darkness of the unknown, and instead of making up stories, choose instead to lean into the shadows to find who you truly are and are becoming. In this episode I reference a webinar by David Whyte titled 'A wellbeing series of changemakers'. This episode is about letting go of our old stories, and the process of growth that occurs when we do. This episode is for anyone who is facing a new season and struggling with the process of change. It's an invitation to allow old parts of you to fall away, to look naked for a time, vulnerable in the wintery seasons, but to invite life will do what it always does; to evolve you into the new edition of who you are. In this way, we allow life to flow through us and in that choice, abundance lives. Spaciousness exists. Miracles occur and we become better because of it, stronger and more valuable in our very core.__________________________________________________If you loved this episode, please rate it on Spotify, or follow me on Instagram so that you don't miss out.If you're keen to get amongst the conversation, there are a few ways you can engaged.1. In many of my earlier episodes, there is a theme, where I have talked about spaciousness occurring when we dis-identify with the stuff of form, when we realise we are enough without all of the things of form; when we rise above struggle. This is all really important stuff, but it can lead to some misassumptions. Misassumptions I, myself, am still learning to overcome; the idea that to struggle, to want, to be out of spaciousness is a wrong of us. I want to clear this up.In todays episode, I explore the idea that it's okay to struggle. I refer to a podcast interview with Russell Brand and Gabrielle Bernstein and their reference to ‘Internal Family Systems Theory’ ; a form of psychotherapy developed by Richard C. Schwartz in the 1980s.The podcast with Brand and Bernstein can be found here: https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/159-from-pain-to-awakening-with-gabrielle-bernstein/id1212064750?i=1000498549302__________________________________________________If you loved this episode, please rate it on Spotify, or follow me on Instagram so that you don't miss out.If you're keen to get amongst the conversation, there are a few ways you can engaged.1. As humans, we operate at three levels of time; the past, the present and the future. We derive our identity from all three of these. In this episode, I explore the question of the past and I discuss the shadows that linger there for many. If you find the past is holding you back, in any way, then this episode is for you. An introduction to a process that can help you rise above struggle and live the spacious way.In todays episode, I mention a couple of links. The first is the tarantula study. That can be found here... https://www.psychologicalscience.org/news/releases/that-giant-tarantula-is-terrifying-but-ill-touch-it-expressing-your-emotions-can-reduce-fear.htmlThe next is to a worksheet to assist you to do scan of the past. In this episode I explore the question, "What if I have a choice?" I reckon when we lose the perspective of having a choice, it’s literally like we walk inside a cage and close the door behind us. Ironically, we feel like someone else has caged us, but it's always, always a cage of our own making, because we always have a choice. If you loved this episode, please rate it on Spotify, or follow me on Instagram so that you don't miss out.If you're keen to get amongst the conversation, there are a few ways you can engaged.1. Acting from a place of calm, when we are uncertain how things will turn out, this is a tough call. In our modern world, where things move so quickly, we are often in a place of needing to act with no guarantees. In this episode I explore the “myth of scarcity”; the idea we buy into that there's not enough, we're not enough and the power that lies in exposing this as a lie, choosing instead to get curious about realising, maybe, we already do have enough? In this episode I reference an interview between Lynne Twist and Oprah Winfrey. This reference comes from the book; The Path Made Clear by O. Winfrey. I also reference a video by Sadhguru. In this episode of the 'What If' Series, I pose the question of 'What if the fight could become a romance?' A beautiful question that explores our relationship with the world and our place in it.Today I explore this very special question and acknowledge the work of Mikey Ellis, good mate and podcast maker, champion of souls and genuinely lovely human. In exploring this question, I ask about what's holding us back from just falling in with the dance that the universe is always just beckoning us to play with? I mention in this podcast, that I'd pop a link to Mikeys podcast here in the show notes, specifically the episode of 'Let's Dance'. If you haven't heard it, do yourself a favor and listen in...
