From the moment our little guy could walk, he was doing things that would make our hearts leap! As he got older and lacked natural “flight or fight” decision making skills (from being on the autism spectrum), we realized we needed to take extra precautions to prevent accidents to the best of our ability. In this episode I will share with you all of the safety precautions and ideas we use when it comes to our home, outings, and any other foreseeable dangers.
Vaccines have been a source of stress from the moment my son got his autism diagnosis. I didn’t even think about them until diagnosis day. I have questioned myself, his pediatrician, done a lot of reading, and honestly I still have a lot of questions. I do want to share with you what I have learned thus far and what we have chosen to do when it comes to vaccinating our children.   This is a heated topic!!!! Time for Real Talk!!!
If you’re anything like me, outings have ALWAYS been a source of stress and potential challenge until I learned how to navigate them. Outings like going to the zoo, a museum, or park where there were a lot of things to do, and way too much stimulation leading to the ultimate...meltdown. Or constant tantrums. The tips I will share with you today have helped me with my son (age 3-6). I’m hopeful that they will help you navigate your way through successful outings with your little one.
We have always tried our best to use natural and organic products for our family. But, we didn't realize how important it was for us to do this as much as possible when trying to balance our kids...especially with managing Autism.  In this episode I will be sharing with you 10 products that we use that we love! I'll dive into how we use them and where you can find them!  Show Notes:  All products and videos mentioned in this episode find here
Right after my son got his autism diagnosis, I was on the phone to my insurance company to see what benefits we had to help support him with the therapies he needed. To my surprise, there was SO MUCH I didn’t know about! In this episode, I will be sharing with you what my insurance experience was like in the first two years of getting diagnosed, and some tips on what I had to do to keep myself sane throughout the process. Not diving too deep into the resources, I will share with you what I discovered and a couple tips you can use to navigate through the insurance maze.
Many of the parents I have connected with that have a child with autism, one of their number one fears is who will care for their child when they are gone. This fear is very REAL and in this episode, I discuss this and how to work through this fear, relieve ourselves from the burden of feeling like we have to be something that we know is impossible, and lastly I'll share what I do to take the best care of myself, as well as what we have done to prepare for the future.
In this episode I explain my journey with yoga and how it’s helped me along this incredibly unpredictable path of parenting a child on the autism spectrum. Before I had children, I went through 700 hours of yoga trainings. Throughout those trainings not only did I learn incredible techniques of how to calm the body and mind through breath, movement, and meditation/prayer, but I also learned how to create a space of self reflection which I have found to be invaluable as I grow through parenting a kiddo on the spectrum.
There was a stretch of about two solid years where I literally felt like I was losing my mind. I would cry, feel so overwhelmed I could barely function, and I never felt like I could catch my breath for all that was happening in my world. So, in this episode I will share with you the five most important things I do to keep my balance and stay healthy  so I don’t feel like I’m losing control over my life and my mind.
Looking back, there were so many signs that there was something “off” with our son that we missed! He didn’t have the typical symptoms of autism, and let’s be honest, that’s the LAST thing we wanted to think was going on! I read a couple articles of symptoms of autism, flapping arms, lining up toys, and Eddie didn’t do these. So in this episode, I will tell you some of the things our son DID do that we didn’t realize were 5 main symptoms of high functioning autism Episode 5 Show Notes
In this episode I will be giving you the absolute best advice I got right after our son was diagnosed with autism. The right after, or heck while you’re right smack in the middle of ASD, everything can feel overwhelming! Episode 4 Show notes I will take you back to what our life looked like in the moment’s after diagnosis, my almost emotional breakdown, and then the advice that literally got me through one of the toughest times in my life. My hope is that you will benefit from this as well as the resource I have found to help everyone thrive through the journey of ASD. Episode 4 show notes
In this episode I’m going first explain what early intervention is. Then share a the timeline and the process we went through to create what I call our A team! Show Notes for Zen Spectrum Episode #3 We have an incredible team of professions working with our son but it didn’t come without a lot of work and adjusting. A critical step in this was dealing with my own process of accepting that our child needs extra help and what I was making that mean. I’ll give you some examples of how I coached myself through that process, and then wrap things up with some resources that I found that helped me at the very beginning! Show Notes for Zen Spectrum Episode #3
The first time I heard the word Autism I was SCARED senseless. I was afraid that one of my children might “get it”. I had no idea what it even was honestly. I only knew that there was an increasing rate of children being diagnosed with autism, and those numbers terrified me when I was pregnant with my first child, Eddie. Episode 2 Show Notes In today’s episode, I first want to introduce myself and our family to you. Then as I describe to you what our life looked like right before our son was diagnosed with autism, what our appointment with the pediatric neurologist was like, and then right after our son was diagnosed. I then will give some resources to use if you suspect that your child may have autism, or if a loved one you knows needs some information. Episode 2 Show Notes
