A lisp refers to a person’s difficulty in producing the /s/, /z/, /sh/, /zh/, /ch/ and /j/ sounds because of incorrect tongue and jaw placement. Minimal pairs are words that differ in one phonological element, generally creating rhyming words. Minimal pairs activities help to develop auditory discrimination skills. Kids begin to recognize that a word changes its meaning with changing only one sound. This knowledge and understanding supports the therapeutic process of improving articulation, auditory processing, language development, reading, and writing skills. Social language is a very broad area of communication. The various components of it form the foundation of our communication skill set. Kids typically produce the /ng/ sound between ages 2-3 . It is no longer considered developmental by age 4. Kids often make an /n/ sound instead of /ng/.
