I caught up with Jen to shed some more light on the hard working support systems in our communities, who deal with suicide and mental illness... We met at the coffee and conversations brought to Pt Lincoln by Mentally Fit EP It is  "R U OK?" Day today - the 13th September... **R U OK?'s vision is a world where we're all connected and are protected from suicide.** Our mission is to inspire and empower everyone to meaningfully connect with people around them and support anyone struggling with life. Their goals are to:  1\. Boost our confidence to meaningfully connect and ask about life's ups and downs  2\. Nurture our sense of responsibility to regularly connect and support others 3\. Strengthen our sense of belonging because we know people are there for us 4\. Be relevant, strong and dynamic **StandBy** – Support after Suicide is a program of United Synergies, established in 2002 to meet the need for a coordinated community response to suicide. StandBy is now recognised as Australia’s leading suicide postvention program dedicated to assisting people and communities impacted by suicide. In Australia, more than 2,800 people take their own life each year. Research indicates that for every death through suicide 135 people are impacted and ten or more are significantly affected. StandBy provides free telephone or face-to-face support by local caring staff, committed to the wellbeing of the person or group affected. The program provides a central point of coordination, connecting people to the various supports they may need through referrals to services, groups and organisations within their local area. StandBy operates nationally by partnering with local organisations, engaging their expertise within the community to deliver the most effective and culturally suitable support for each individual circumstance. Locally tailored community workshops and education programs are provided to increase awareness of suicide and suicide bereavement to help enable communities to support one another. Trigger Warning: This post discusses honest experiences with and about mental health and suicide . The aim of this recording is to tell experiences with honesty. Therefore, some conversations may trigger an adverse reaction. If a post is beginning to upset you, we advise that you please stop reading it immediately and talk to your support team.  I (Johana Page) was honoured to be able to catch up with Joanne Clarke from WCYCS, Mentally Fit EP & Lincoln Alive, with special guest Matt Runnalls the CEO and Founder of 'Mindfull' Australia. Jo brought documentary style movie "Suicide: The Ripple Effect" for a free community screening to Youthoria, which is how this interview came about.  With "World Suicide Prevention Day" coming up, followed by "Are You OK Day?" we are encouraging open conversations about life, and showing that through relationships and discussion, it's OK to not be OK... and there is support and hope. Often people fear speaking on the subject of suicide,, some people are afraid to ask if others are OK... on the flip side those struggling with suicidal thoughts may feel ashamed or as though they don't want to burden anyone with their problems... We need to be there for each other and open opportunity to have honest conversations. As we know Suicide can effect anyone... It can be a spilt second emotional based decision, or a life long struggle with depression... It can come in many forms, which is why it is so dangerous... It could be the seemingly most happiest, out going person... or the withdrawn friend you have not heard from in awhile. **"Vulnerability is the birth place of strength" Matt Says... "And it can have a positive ripple effect.." in sharing our story it encourages others to do the same. "** **Stories of hope enable others to find strength** MindfullAus is extremely proud of the incredibly inspiring and compassionate people who have come together to spread the most important message, that of Acceptance & Hope. Mindfull Aus understands the task at hand in reducing statistics lost to Suicide & the stigma associated with Mental Illness is far greater than just one individual or group of people, as we seek out opportunities to work with collectively as many people as we can to inflict a much bigger more powerful and beneficial social change and voice.
