The Roger Winkler Memorial Foundation gives back to the community through scholarships. Wilson County recipients have an opportunity to receive scholarships from 0 to [post_excerpt],000 through community service, helping to keep our Texas highways clean during the year and volunteering at bingo events at Kosciusko Hall. The Wilson Area Children’s Foundation provides scholarships, back-to-school clothing, meals during Thanksgiving, and Christmas gifts to support children in Wilson County and surrounding areas. This year, scholarships were awarded to nine students in five of the area schools. The foundation’s annual golf tournament funds these programs and will be held Saturday, Sept. 28, at River Bend Golf Course in Floresville. A portion of U.S. 181 was closed about eight and a half hours June 10, after an 18-wheel tanker truck rolled over on the highway just inside Karnes County. The crash occurred around 1:30 p.m. just south of C.R. 204 in Wilson County. While Karnes County experienced phone and Internet services outages June 16, emergency calls to 911 went to Wilson County Sheriff’s Office dispatchers.
