The new manager of the Mets getting the boot in record setting time. Carlos Beltran signed on with New York just last November, but he’s already out of job for getting caught up in what is arguably the biggest cheating scandal in baseball history. Mr. Beltran used to play for the Astros – the team that used video equipment to steal signs from opposing catchers – and he’s now the third manager to lose his job in the fallout. Houston fired AJ Hinch after Major League Baseball released its findings, and a day later the Boston Red Sox parted with Alex Cora after he, too, admitted to wrongdoing while with the Astros.

For the first time, new techniques have allowed scientists to identify the oldest solid material ever found on Earth. The stardust, that came from a meteorite, is between five and seven billion years old. This meteorite landed in Australia when it fell to Earth 50 years ago. It’s now being kept at the Field Museum in Chicago. The museum’s expert on meteorites says they examined tiny grains in the stardust which are essentially time capsules of the period before our solar system’s sun was born. To separate the ancient grains from the newer ones, the scientists crushed fragments of the meteorite into a powder.. then dissolved it in acid, leaving only the pre-solar particles intact. One expert described it as burning down a haystack to find the needle.

Britain’s Prince Harry was seen in public yesterday, for the first time since announcing a big change for his family.. and for what could be his final official appearance as a royal. The Duke of Sussex hosted what is normally a rather ordinary rugby demonstration by school children at Buckingham Palace. He joked with the young players that they mustn’t ruin the grass or else he’d get in trouble. There was speculation that Prince Harry was in big trouble with his grandmother Queen Elizabeth after announcing that he and his wife Meghan Markle would step back from their senior royal duties and live part time in Canada. But after a big family summit at the palace on Monday the Queen issued a statement saying there would be a period of transition, to work out details allowing Harry and Meghan to begin a new life as an independent family.

There’s a chance you might someday end up going to college at the same time as your grandparents. That’s because a growing number of senior citizens are returning to university through programs called University Based Retirement Communities. These students, in their 60’s, 70’s , 80’s and beyond not only live near the campus, but they also take classes there, use the school’s library and gym, attend artistic performances and cheer in the stands. All this activity not only stimulates older folks intellectually but also socially, which many say helps keep them feeling young. The arrangements don’t come cheap but for many of the participants, they feel it’s a wonderful way to spend their golden years.

Jeopardy’s greatest player of all time, Ken Jennings may be an expert in many categories.. but he was wrong about one thing.. himself. Jennings admitted he didn’t think he’d win the recent big quiz show contest.. in fact he kept turning the TV show down when they asked him to participate. Jennings said it’d been 15 years since he set a 74-game win streak. But Jennings ended up with the tournament of champions trophy this week, winning 3 out of 4 matches. He beat out 2 previous big-time winners, James Holzhauer and Brad Rutter for the 1-million-dollar prize and bragging rights as Jeopardy’s GOAT.

Some of the pre-recorded messages contain a few humorous jabs at city life, like.. “You are now entering Manhattan.. hope you brought money!” Comedy Central is paying for the spots as a promotion for the stars upcoming show, called “Awkwafina is Nora from Queens.”
