Description
Good morning and welcome to KidNuz. I’m Kim. Today is Wednesday, December 18th, 2019 and we begin …
…With something that both Democrats and Republicans can agree on; Today’s vote in the House of Representatives will someday make the pages of every history book in the United States. In the next few hours, all 435 members are expected to publicly state whether they want to charge the President of the United States with two alleged crimes —or not. If the majority vote yes, President Trump will become only the third Commander in Chief ever Impeached. President Nixon would have been the fourth, but he resigned before the vote was taken. Even IF he is impeached tomorrow, Mr. Trump will not have to leave office. He’d still need to be tried in the Senate, which is likely to clear him of charges because in that chamber, Republicans outnumber Democrats.
When you’re a perfectionist, nothing else will do. Just ask Drew Brees who had a heaven-sent night on Monday. … and it still wasn’t good enough. The Saints 41-year-old quarterback threw for four touchdowns against the Colts to blow past Peyton Manning as the NFL’s ALL-TIME career leader for passing TD’s. He also completed 29 of 30 passes, itself a record. So what’s the problem? The one that got away. At the start of the second quarter, he apparently didn’t set his feet properly, rushed, and then missed his receiver. That, he says, will haunt him forever.
It’s a lesson in losing, grace, and friendship – all rolled into one. Over the weekend, Miss Nigeria didn’t win the Miss World pageant — yet no one would have known. Her defeat in the final seconds came at the hands of one of her best friends, Miss Jamaica. Instead of crying, Nyekatchi Douglas (can’t find a pronouncer. Going with Nye-uh-kachee) let out a shriek, jumped for joy and twirled around the stage before wrapping the winner in a congratulatory bear hug. Social media took notice of the selfless celebration as an example of how girls can- and should – support each other. Some of the tweets: Where can I find a friend like Miss Nigeria, Miss Jamaica won Miss World but Miss Nigeria won the world’s heart. And .. always try to be someone’s Miss Nigeria.
The latest possible solution to climate change has a downright beachy vibe. A San Francisco entrepreneur wants to sprinkle green pebbles of volcanic rock all along tropical shorelines. Project Vesta co-founder Erik Matzner says when the stone, called Olivine (allah-veen), erodes with the crashing of waves, a chemical change takes place that allows the rocks to draw carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere and sea. The more the rock breaks down, the more carbon dioxide it can collect. The idea sounds farfetched, but top climate scientists are reportedly now clamoring to test the theory on a massive scale.
Revenge is a dish best served cold. Or in this day and age.. crumpled up in an Amazon box. Porch pirates in Colorado Springs sticky-fingered deliveries to one home more than 20 times before a missed garbage day gave the owners an idea. Instead of waiting a week to put out their old kitty litter and fast food containers, they dumped it into a few empty boxes, slapped some tape and their address on the outside… and waited. The thieves didn’t miss a beat. At least 3 times now, the grinches have unwittingly taken the Hyatt family’s trash. And while the stolen package problem is annoying and expensive, it’s also dangerous. The family has a diabetic daughter who gets her medicine delivered — and that’s been among the legitimate boxes taken.
That’s it for KidNuz this morning. Now our KidNuz Quiz.

In one for the road: As we reported on Monday, LSU quarterback Joe Burrow won the Heisman as the best college player. What you might not have heard about, was his speech after. With tears in his eyes, he told the audience that his win was for all the kids in his hometown of Athens, Ohio where thousands of people live below the poverty level and often go hungry. WIth that, someone launched a gofundme page for the town and as of yesterday, more than 370-thousand dollars had been raised for the town’s food pantry. Proof, some would say, that the good an athlete can do off the field is more important that what he or she can do on it.
Before we close: Our birthday shoutouts today go to Geatan in Moraga, California and Courtney in Altadena, CA.
