03 Shawntai Brown: The playwright who is a poet

Some poets are cooks. Some poets are doctors. Some are telephone repairers. This poet is a playwright and a radical educator. Her name is Shawntai Brown. This month on the Kalamazoo Poetry Podcast we hear two of her poems rooted in her home, Detroit. Her work takes on topics like gender, sexuality, truth, family, and racial justice. She works with Extra Mile Playwright’s Theatre, Inside Out Literary Arts and has been published in Cactus Heart and Synesthesia Magazine.
