About the mind transfer scenario - unless I missed something, I don't think it suggests that there's something immaterial going on.. As a materialist, I don't believe that the brain IS the mind, the mind is what the brain DOES.. So I interpret the procedure with the transfer as the new brain having its neurons and synapses essentially rewritten to store the all the processes and experiences of existence that makes me who I am.
