Welcome to your mid-year checkpoint.
00:00:07
I cannot believe that 2024 is already half way through.
00:00:11
That is absolutely insane.
00:00:12
And today, TWSC, we are taking a pause, we are hitting our checkpoint of the middle of the year, and we are doing a mid-year reset,
00:00:22
okay?
00:00:23
Welcome back to the Wellness Cafe podcast.
00:00:25
You're going to HalkerWalk Podcast to I'm your host, Trin Tondelier.
00:00:30
And at the Wellness Cafe, if you're new here, we are all about becoming your happiest, healthiest self.
00:00:35
And in order to do that, it is always so, so important when you're on a wellness journey to be taking some time to pause and reflect,
00:00:46
reassess the vibes, see what's going on, and then head in a new direction to becoming your happiest, healthiest self.
00:00:53
So we are doing a mid-year mid-2024 reassessment today.
00:00:58
First of all, hi, how are you?
00:01:01
I hope you're having an amazing week.
00:01:03
If anything, if there are any vibes that are off right now, today's guide is going to help you clear all of those away.
00:01:09
If you're listening on audio, the Wellness Cafe is also on video now, which is on YouTube at the Wellness Cafe podcast on YouTube, if you're not subscribed, it would mean the world to me.
00:01:19
If you subscribed, the link to it, the YouTube channel is in the show notes.
00:01:23
What inspired this episode is I, as I shared a couple weeks back, have been having some health problems, some things that are out of my control, and they're trying to kill my vibe,
00:01:34
okay?
00:01:34
But one thing about me, and one thing about TWC, is we are not going to let outside circumstances kill our vibe.
00:01:41
So I have been doing this kind of reset for the past three weeks, and we know this by now.
00:01:50
Some things are out of our control, and that's why I always say that a morning routine is so important because once you leave that door, you don't know what is going to happen to you out there,
00:02:00
out there in the scary world, okay?
00:02:02
Some people will try and kill your vibes always.
00:02:05
And about three weeks ago, I decided that it was time for a mid-year reset.
00:02:11
So I've set out, I've been doing all of the things that I'm about to share with you today, and I have felt such a switch in my mood, it's insane.
00:02:19
So that's why, that's what inspired this episode.
00:02:22
I was like, whoa, this little check stop, this reassessment of what I've been doing lately, and just changing things up, has extremely helped my mood, and I'm sure it'll help yours as well.
00:02:33
So that is why I wanted to share what I've been doing to kind of reset the vibe and head into the second half of 2024, on a fresh note, ready to crush our goals,
00:02:45
crush our habits and continue being our happiest, healthiest selves.
00:02:50
The first part of this mid-year reset is reflecting on the first six months of the year.
00:02:56
Reflection is so, so, so, so valuable when you're on a wellness journey.
00:03:01
There are so many things that can just subconsciously be negatively affecting your mood without you even realizing it.
00:03:10
And if you just keep going on day by day, by day, without taking a moment to assess, those little sneaky negative vibes can have a way of creeping in and we do not want them in.
00:03:21
So I want you to do a reflection on the first six months of the year, just to assess the vibes and make sure that you're on the right note.
00:03:29
It is just so beneficial to sit down with yourself and take a moment to reflect, get your favorite drink or multiple beverages because there's never too many beverages at once.
00:03:39
Sit down with a hot coffee and iced dirty chai and your journal.
00:03:45
Maybe you have a window where the sun can hit you or go in your backyard in nature, bring your journal and just take some time to really reflect.
00:03:55
And you know what, maybe you had some goals when we were doing all of the 2024 goal setting episodes, you wrote them down and then you never really took action to work towards them and that is completely okay.
00:04:08
It is so okay if you didn't start in January that doesn't mean that you can't start in July and use the second half of the year to really hit your goals.
00:04:17
So I encourage you to just slow down, do some reflection and a vibe check, take some time to really be present with yourself before heading into the second half of the year.
00:04:27
The first thing that I would do is that first of all, it is so important to acknowledge your achievements from the year.
00:04:34
It is so easy to start going through life on autopilot, but it is so important to be celebrating your achievements and everything that you've accomplished this year, whether it's big or small,
00:04:46
I want you to take some time and really appreciate what you've accomplished.
00:04:51
So when you're reflecting, always start with your achievements, be your own biggest cheerleader and appreciate all that you've done.
00:04:59
And then after you've done that, it's important to move into maybe what you can improve on or areas that haven't been making you feel so good.
00:05:08
I've been doing this for six years now and I would like to consider myself a pretty self-aware person.
00:05:15
And even then, every single time that I sit down to do self-reflection, I noticed something that was completely just going by unnoticed and I'm always so surprised when I sit down to do a really in-depth reflection.
00:05:29
So I'll give you some prompts that I like to do and then I'll also do more prompts on the Wellness Cafe Instagram.
00:05:36
It is just at the Wellness Cafe pod on Instagram make sure you're following us over there.
00:05:42
The first prompt is right about a time you felt happiest and the most at peace.
00:05:48
What can you do to incorporate that feeling into your life more often?
00:05:52
Next, name five ways that you handle a bad day and why do these work?
00:05:58
This prompt I always like to do because it always changes and it's so important to know and have your little toolbox of tools that you use to help you feel better.
00:06:09
Because when you're having a bad day, if you don't think of these things on the spot, it can be easy to just let those bad feelings snowball and keep having a bad day.
00:06:19
But if you have a list of your resources and your tools and your habits that you know work for you during a bad day, you can go reference them in your journal whenever you're feeling upset or angry and you can have the tools to go on and fix your mood and change it for the better.
00:06:35
Next is list five qualities you have that you are proud of.
00:06:40
Next, describe a time when you felt like you were thriving.
00:06:44
What contributed to that feeling?
00:06:46
Next, describe a time when you were feeling upset or bad.
00:06:50
What contributed to that feeling?
00:06:53
Those are some ways that I would get started with self-reflection on the first six months of the year and then you really have a clear picture of what is working for you, what you like to do to pick your mood up,
00:07:05
but what things are making you feel bad, then you can look at it and cross those off, never see them again, get the mood of your environment, your routine, your lifestyle.
00:07:15
It is so important to sit down and have some time for reflection.
00:07:19
And like I said, I'll post some more prompts on the Wellness Cafe podcast, but the next thing that I would like to do for reflection, I do this quite a bit and really it's just a vibe check of your daily life.
00:07:31
Okay, it is so important to constantly be assessing your environment and making sure that there's nothing in it that makes you feel bad.
00:07:39
So it is always important to do this on social media.
00:07:43
Here's your reminder that it is okay to unfollow unfriend people online or in real life if they aren't making you feel good.
00:07:52
If you're following anyone on social media who doesn't make you feel good about yourself, it is so important to unfollow them.
00:08:00
It can be so easy to like tap through stories and see stuff that doesn't make you feel that great about yourself.
00:08:07
And for some reason you don't always think to just go hit that unfollow button, but the unfollow button is there for reason.
00:08:13
If someone doesn't make you feel good about yourself, unfollow them, get that energy out of there, you do not need that in your life.
00:08:20
It is so important to surround yourself in real life and online with people who lift you up and make you excited and make you feel good about yourself.
00:08:31
Next on the list is assessing your environmental wellness.
00:08:34
The impact of your physical environment plays a huge role on how you feel day to day.
00:08:40
So you already know we are going to declutter.
00:08:45
A clear space equals a clear mind.
00:08:48
Say it with me.
00:08:49
Time and time again, anytime that I'm feeling stressed anytime that I feel like my vibes are a little bit off and they could definitely use them in proving I know that I probably need to declutter clean up my space so that I can think clearer.
00:09:06
My best tip for decluttering your space is to start with one area at a time.
00:09:11
Maybe it's your closet.
00:09:13
Maybe it's a bookshelf, a dresser, your fridge, your pantry.
00:09:18
My best advice would probably be to start with whatever area just popped into your mind when I was saying that list.
00:09:26
That is probably your space that needs to be decluttered the most.
00:09:30
So I just did this.
00:09:31
I started with our kitchen drawers.
00:09:34
The Tupperware was kind of getting unorganized everywhere.
00:09:37
The lids weren't matching.
00:09:39
The spice drawer.
00:09:40
I took all the spices out and just gave it a wipe down, vacuumed it, our junk drawer and our kitchen island was getting a little bit messier than I would like.
00:09:50
So I spent a couple hours just decluttering all of our drawers organizing everything perfectly.
00:09:58
And it always, it honestly never fails to make me feel better.
00:10:02
And just if like everything is messy, your brain, your mind, you can't think straight.
00:10:08
So you just need to organize that declutter and it will make you feel so much better.
00:10:12
That's why this is our little mid-year checkpoint because at the beginning of the year, I always like to do a really big declutter.
00:10:19
And then the months can kind of start going by so fast.
00:10:22
And then I was just like, holy shit, this has gotten a little bit messier than I would like.
00:10:26
And it's probably affecting the way I feel throughout the day without even really realizing it.
00:10:32
Next up for your environmental wellness is spending time in nature.
00:10:39
Nature is so, so, so, so underrated and so healing and grounding.
00:10:47
If you have time, I cannot recommend enough, spending as much time as possible during the summer in nature.
00:10:54
Last weekend, Brody and I visited Vancouver because I had a work opportunity there.
00:10:59
You may have seen it on TikTok.
00:11:01
It was a touch of ad, which was so cool.
00:11:04
Every single time that I get an opportunity to work with such huge brands that I have loved their products for years, like it's always a pinch me moment.
00:11:13
It'll never, it'll never feel normal.
00:11:15
It's always like what the heck is going on.
00:11:18
So I had a deal with Tatcha, Brody and I went to Van and we spent so much time outdoors.
00:11:26
Basically, what we did in Van was spend time outdoors and go to workouts.
00:11:31
I met so many of you at Jay Bird.
00:11:33
It's always the funnest thing when I go to workout classes and then I meet some of you there because it's like, we're all just doing the same thing.
00:11:41
We all know the vibes, we're all working out to be our happiest, healthiest self and it was just such a mood booster meeting you all.
00:11:48
So if you came up to me in Vancouver, thank you so much.
00:11:51
It means so much to me.
00:11:52
It's like literally, I don't have that many friends.
00:11:57
You know that.
00:11:58
So when I meet you guys in person, I'm like, oh great, like these are my friends.
00:12:01
So never be scared to come up and say hi.
00:12:05
I feel like I have a really bad resting bitch face and it's something I need to work on.
00:12:10
So I promise if you ever see me out and I have a RBF, it is not me.
00:12:15
I just, I can't help it, okay?
00:12:17
I'm smiling on the inside.
00:12:18
What was I saying?
00:12:20
Oh yeah, spending time in nature is so good.
00:12:23
Like we left then feeling so amazing.
00:12:28
I was so inspired.
00:12:30
I feel, I've said this time in time again, but whenever I'm truly feeling my best and like things are going good, I'm always inspired.
00:12:37
I'm posting more photos, I'm filming more and after spending so much time in nature and working out and meeting you guys, like being surrounded by good, positive energy,
00:12:48
I came back from van feeling like I literally felt like a rebirth because as I mentioned, like I had a couple, I've had a couple tough moments with the hormone health and stuff like that,
00:13:01
but yeah, going in nature, reading, spending time in the water, being surrounded by positive, like minded people, it never fails to just like pick me up and inspire me and make me feel creative and like myself again.
00:13:17
So I cannot recommend getting outdoors enough on Canada Day actually, which this was the first Canada Day ever where Brody and I just hung out the two of us.
00:13:29
We had some mocktails, like we're usually out celebrating with our friends drinking and I felt like that just wouldn't serve me this year to feel my best.
00:13:38
So Brody and I had a day where we just had a picnic by the water, I was reading by the water, we bought some cherries and watermelon and mocktails and we just had ourselves a nice calm grounding day and it felt so good.
00:13:54
A couple of you asked what my current read was when I posted photos of that weekend on Instagram, which if you're not following me on Instagram, it would mean the world to me if you did, I always love having you guys over on my Instagram.
00:14:07
It is just at Trinity Tondaleer T-O-N-D-L-E-I-R, but I'm currently reading it ends with us because a lot of people said it's really sad and I know it's one of the most popular book talk books but I never really got into it and then I saw the trailer for the movie,
00:14:27
which, what are your opinions on the it ends with us trailer?
00:14:30
Because as someone who hadn't read the book, I thought that the trailer looked so good and that's why I wanted to read the book finally.
00:14:38
I was like, okay, you need to read it, get it done because you need to read the book before you see the movie.
00:14:44
I love Blake Lively.
00:14:45
Gossip Girl was literally my high school years and I think it's coming out early August, I believe, which now I guess is only a couple of weeks away.
00:14:56
So that is the current read but I definitely need some new recommendations.
00:15:00
So always, if you ever want to slide into my DMs with book recommendations that they never go unnoticed and you all know me so well that whenever you give me a book rack and I read it,
00:15:11
I'm like, wow, that was my favorite book ever.
00:15:14
So anyway, if you can't tell, after spending a weekend outdoors in Van, the nature and the positive energy and the workouts, literally, I feel like they switched my mood.
00:15:25
A complete 180, my mood has been flipped to end, I'm feeling so happy and inspired from that and there actually are studies done.
00:15:34
I don't have them on hand right now, I should have pulled them up but a lot of people will say that even 20 minutes outdoors surrounded by greenery will improve your mood and your mental health.
00:15:43
If you need some ideas for this, what I have been spending my time doing this summer is playing pick up all outside, going for bike rides outside, laying out, tanning and reading.
00:15:54
My sister and I have been painting bikini boxes outside, which I think that I'm probably due for my summer bucket list episode.
00:16:03
So maybe I'll record that for next week but there's some little ideas just to get you started.
00:16:07
Next up, but on this mid-year reset is reassessing and renewing your habits.
00:16:15
So we know that your daily habits will make up and basically dictate your entire lifestyle.
00:16:20
So this is the point where if you had habits that you wanted to start during your New Year's resolutions, now is a time to assess how those habits have been going, are you still doing them?
00:16:31
Are you working towards them?
00:16:33
Or maybe you need a plan to incorporate those habits into your daily routine again.
00:16:38
For me, for my hormone health, I am supposed to be having like two or three teas a day.
00:16:45
I'm really trying to lean into this whole natural healing and for some reason I have really been struggling getting into the habit of having a tea every morning.
00:16:58
So first of all, if you have a habit that you have been wanting to incorporate into routine and you're having a tough time, never beat yourself up for that because something that sounds so simple literally probably the easiest habit that I could have to do is drinking a tea in the morning.
00:17:16
And for some reason, it's just never been a part of my morning routine.
00:17:20
So it's really like throwing me off.
00:17:23
So if you have a habit that you wanted to do as a new year goal or maybe just a new habit that you thought of right now that you really want to incorporate into your routine,
00:17:33
here is what I would recommend to really get that habit into your routine because it only takes 21 days to create a habit.
00:17:43
The first step is I always just say pen to paper is better and looking at something is so much better.
00:17:50
So I made a chart, a little habit tracker chart full of 21 boxes.
00:17:56
Every single day that I have my tea, I've been checking it off to hold myself accountable and make sure that I am showing up and having this fricking tea that for some reason I can't incorporate into my morning routine.
00:18:12
Actually, let me rephrase.
00:18:14
I can incorporate it into my morning routine I'm having trouble doing so.
00:18:19
So having a physical, visual picture of the habit and checkmarking the boxes to hold myself accountable has really been helping.
00:18:29
And then the second thing I would recommend if you are trying to incorporate a new habit into your routine is habit stacking.
00:18:36
So every single morning I take my probiotics which that is a part of my morning routine and a habit that comes really easily for me.
00:18:46
I honestly never forget it.
00:18:48
Right now I've been using seed probiotics before that I was using a greens powder.
00:18:55
It's really good to always be switching up your probiotics.
00:18:57
So right now I'm doing seed.
00:18:59
So putting a new habit that I want in my routine onto a habit that I already have so that it comes really easily.
00:19:06
When I go do my probiotics, I'm just like, okay, probiotics and tea.
00:19:11
So I'm adding it onto something that I already do.
00:19:13
So you have the cue which is the habit you already do and then just attach your new habit to that so that you always already have something in your daily routine that reminds you to do that new habit.
00:19:26
Instead of me just trying to randomly add the tea into my routine in a random space, I'm tying it into a habit that already comes really easily for me and then it makes it easier to just go,
00:19:39
okay, probiotics, then tea.
00:19:41
Because before that I would do my morning routine, I didn't really have a specific spot for the tea.
00:19:47
So then it was always just getting missed and then I would just forget about it until I was going to bed and then I would just be like, okay, tomorrow morning you have to have your tea.
00:19:55
But I never had a cue or a specific spot to have it.
00:19:59
So I would highly recommend doing both of those if you're trying to add a new habit into your routine for the rest of 2024.
00:20:07
And lastly, for our mid year reset, you will know how much I love a vision board and how much power I think a vision board actually holds.
00:20:17
It is so crazy every single year when I look back on my vision board, I'm like, wow.
00:20:22
That actually happened.
00:20:24
I, like vision boards holds so much power.
00:20:27
So first of all, if you never made a vision board for 2024, I would recommend making a vision board.
00:20:33
Secondly, if you already made one, it's time to just go back and reflect on your vision board.
00:20:39
Maybe something as you put on your vision board, you've already had accomplished.
00:20:44
Which, if you did, I'm so proud of you.
00:20:47
That is so incredible.
00:20:49
I always love when you DM me and send me what has came true from your vision board, what you have manifested into your life and created your dream life.
00:20:57
It makes me so, so, so, so happy.
00:21:01
Anyway, it is also okay if something that you put on your vision board isn't actually what you want to happen anymore.
00:21:08
You can replace it, put a new photo on it, but the reason that I'm putting this on the list is this kind of ties into the whole summer bucket list thing is that you can make a physical vision board outside.
00:21:22
So print out some photos, put your favorite bikini on, go in your backyard and make a vision board for the second half of the year.
00:21:31
I actually just went to IKEA and got two cork boards.
00:21:34
I think they're $10 each, so this is also an affordable activity to do this summer.
00:21:40
And this is going to be my first time in a while making a physical vision board.
00:21:46
I am so excited.
00:21:47
I got two new cork boards.
00:21:48
I'm actually setting them up as like a little matcha coffee vision board station, which I haven't done yet, but once you do, once I do, you already know you'll be seeing it on my Instagram and TikTok,
00:22:02
I'm so excited.
00:22:03
But as you know, making a physical vision board or even a digital one to set as your laptop background, your phone screen saver, making a vision board can help you real line and get serious about what your goals are,
00:22:16
how you want to show up and live the rest of 2024.
00:22:21
We have six months left.
00:22:23
If in the first six months of the year, it didn't go as planned.
00:22:26
You know what?
00:22:27
It didn't go as planned for me either.
00:22:28
And that is okay because we're taking this checkpoint today.
00:22:31
We're all in this together.
00:22:33
We're taking a pause.
00:22:34
We're reassessing.
00:22:35
We're reevaluating.
00:22:36
And we're heading into the second half of the year stronger than ever.
00:22:41
Like I said, I've kind of been doing these little mid-year resets for the past couple of weeks and it has changed my mood so much.
00:22:51
I'm feeling so inspired to head into the second half of the year.
00:22:54
I'm feeling so much happier and just good because when you do habits that make you feel good, you feel good, you look good, you glow differently and you will not,
00:23:06
you won't ever regret doing a good habit for yourself and working on yourself because at the end of the day, you are your biggest cheerleader and you are the biggest project that you will ever work on.
00:23:18
If you do make a little mid-year vision board this summer, post it on your Instagram story and tag me, I absolutely love seeing your vision boards.
00:23:28
But yeah, I hope you enjoyed this episode.
00:23:31
I feel like I usually only do these big lists at the beginning of the year, but a year is so long and it's important to check in with yourself.
00:23:40
All the time, not just January for New Year's.
00:23:44
You can reset, you can have a new year whenever you want.
00:23:47
You can decide any single day to wake up and change your entire life.
00:23:52
You don't have to wait for a new year or the middle of the year.
00:23:55
It is so good to always just be evaluating what makes you feel good because at the end of the day, that is our goal, right?
00:24:02
To just feel the best that we can, live the happiest, healthiest life we can and it makes me so happy to be doing this with you.
00:24:12
If you enjoyed today's episode, it would mean the world.
00:24:14
If you left a five star rating and review, it helps the show out so much more than you know.
00:24:19
And if you're watching on YouTube, and if you're not watching on YouTube, make sure you're subscribed to the Wellness Cafe on YouTube.
00:24:26
I think that is all for now.
00:24:28
If there are only a couple of things that you take away from this episode, let number one be that reflecting on your life is so important.
00:24:37
You'll notice so many things that you wouldn't usually realize because you just are on autopilot.
00:24:43
So it's so important to sit down, slow down, really evaluate what's going on in your surroundings because sometimes things can be negatively impacting you and affecting your mood without you consciously realizing.
00:24:56
So it's so important to take that time and sit down and just really debrief what is going on.
00:25:03
And secondly, is that you can make anything happen any single day you have the power to completely change your life.
00:25:10
I know that you're capable of making anything happen.
00:25:13
If you want to do a new habit, if you want to start a new job, if you want to get into a certain school or program, if you want to manifest the boyfriend of your dreams,
00:25:25
I know that you, girlie pops, can make any single thing happen that you set your mind to.
00:25:30
And also, a friendly reminder that bad days are okay.
00:25:34
A couple bad days, a couple bad weeks don't really mean anything.
00:25:39
Okay, it is completely okay.
00:25:41
Everyone has bad days, everyone has bad weeks, bad months.
00:25:44
That does not mean that you have a bad life.
00:25:46
That is why I think it's so important that I do show up and share my bad times with you.
00:25:53
Even though it may not be as uplifting of an episode, I just never want to set unrealistic standards because I just,
00:26:03
I feel like I saw that happen so much when I was younger on social media and it would make me think that every day it needs to be a good day or else I'm not doing well.
00:26:12
When that's just, that isn't real life.
00:26:14
Not everyone has good days every single day.
00:26:17
So bad days are okay, bad days are normal, bad days make you human.
00:26:22
But if you show up and you have the tools to turn those bad days around and bad moods around, that is what is most important.
00:26:31
This podcast isn't to completely take your bad days away, but this podcast is to give you the tools to handle your bad days because everyone will have ups and downs and that is completely normal and it doesn't mean that you're doing anything wrong.
00:26:47
With that, I hope you enjoyed this episode and I will see you next week.
00:26:51
