2015 Series Soul Pod Episode 1 Part 2
Update: 2015-01-06
Description
Three days into 2015 and the soul show/soul pod edition 1 sets off into orbit to come full circle in four decades.
The year is 1975. Its the year that ignited all my musical taste buds that gave birth to the Steve Edwards Soul Show aka The Soundtrack to your soul! For this opening edition there is no doubting the fact that the 1970`s provided the template for our musical existence(back then) that totally reflected and represented our way of life.
To think forty years ago I was just a 15 year old kid running errands and doing a paper round for excess income. That income was diligently applied in buying new and used cassettes and yes vinyl records from the local record shop less than a couple of miles from home.
The other main ingredient an essential component to my record collection`s rapid expansion was the local radio station ( that aired"Soul Spectrum" every Saturday night, ironically hosted by another Edwards.....The show soon became my weekly fix and reference point to the soul music that was coming out of the united states.
All Vinyl including the snap , crackle and pop of the era. These songs you are listening to represent the core of my youth. It was the beginning of a musical journey with radio as my vehicle to share the music, artists interviews, special events , anniversaries and more in my world of soul.
For our first edition Freddy Cole (brother of Nat) is live on the soul phone , we dig a soul exclusive from the archives with Carmen Lundy`s 1988 demo sessions on her brilliant cover of George Benson's "So this is love" As for 2014 we slide back into the "best of the rest" featuring releases from The Brand New Heavies and D`Angelo.
Miles Davis said it and I echo that sentiment in that the music speaks for itself!
To quote another; The Earth has music for those who listen- Kenny Gamble
There is only one number 1! Welcome to part 2 of the 2015 Series!
