Description

Introduction |

How does an institution collect zines of all shapes, sizes, and materials?

In this episode, Sam Yi Yao Chao, the Zine Librarian at Asia Art Archive, takes us behind the scenes of institutional collecting. From both the zine maker’s and librarian’s perspectives, Sam explores how zines are categorized and archived, how artist residency programs give them new life, and shares unique insights into Hong Kong’s vibrant zine spaces and community ecosystem.

This season is inspired by MoCA TAIPEI’s 2025 exhibition No Language, exploring bodily and material experiences that precede language. We dive into the world of art publishing—examining how books are conceived, produced, and circulated. Joining us are artists, book makers, and organizers who engage with books as a medium for their artistic practice, as we explore Taiwan’s art book and self-publishing scene and imagine the future possibilities for books.
