1. Angola – Luanda
Angola celebrates 50 years of independence or liberation as social inequalities and corruption persist amongst liberators and elites
Angola will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of its independence from Portugal this Tuesday. The country declared its independence on 11 November 1975, at the end of a 13-year war.
2. Cameroon – Yaounde
Tchiroma gives authorities 48-hour ultimatum to release post-election detainees
Cameroon's opposition continues to contest the result of the latest presidential election. Presidential runner-up Issa Tchiroma Bakary gave authorities a 48-hour ultimatum to release all prisoners arrested in the protests that followed the re-election of Paul Biya.
3. Tanzania – Dar es Salaam
Tanzania Catholic Church condemns the killings of protesters following disputed election and 67 Member East Afrika Community Election Observer Mission calls for peace, national dialogue and peace resolution of disputes but remain mute on the standards of electoral processes and challenges of pre-during and post electoral violence and abuse of law.
4. In our historical archives, it was on this day 11 November 1995 when Nigerian Author and Environmentalist activists Ken – Saro-Wiwa was executed as were the other eight defendants. The international community responded with outrage, and Nigeria was suspended from the Commonwealth for almost four years.
