Update: 2025-12-06
Description
A powerful Arctic blast has gripped the central and eastern US, shattering temperature records from Iowa to New York. This intense cold snap, caused by a polar vortex fluctuation, has brought subfreezing temperatures up to twenty degrees below average. Iowa, in particular, has seen new record lows, with Spencer reaching an all-time low of minus nineteen degrees. Meanwhile, New York Citys airports recorded twenty degrees, either setting or tying their previous records. Snow is also expected in parts of the Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, and Rockies through Saturday.
