Background:

The case revolved around the question of copyright infringement and is often colloquially referred to as "The Da Vinci Code case". Michael Baigent and Richard Leigh, two of the three authors of the non-fiction book "The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail" (published in 1982), claimed that Dan Brown, author of the bestselling novel "The Da Vinci Code" (published in 2003), had infringed their copyright by "appropriating the architecture" of their research and ideas.
