Beat around the bush
means to avoid talking directly about a subject, often because it's uncomfortable or difficult. Instead of addressing the main point, a person talks about other things.
Examples:
1- When my friend was asked if she’d tried the new exercise class, she beat around the bush by talking about how she “almost signed up” and how she’s “considering different workout options,” instead of just admitting she was too lazy to go.
2- When asked about his public incident at the Oscars, Will Smith beat around the bush by discussing “the importance of maintaining respect” and “the challenges of handling stress,” instead of directly addressing the incident.
