Better pay for Defence Forces cadets needed - Martin Kenny
Description
Better pay and conditions are the main areas that must be addressed in order for the defence forces to address the current recruitment and retention crisis the Army, and navy and air core are currently facing.
That's according to the Sligo Leitrim Deputy Martin Kenny.
The Sinn Fein TD made the comments as the issue of Cadet pay and the army's ongoing recruitment crisis will dominate today's RACO conference in County Meath.
Delegates are expected to head that cadets can be paid below minimum wage for the first two years of their career and earn 40 per cent less than their enlisted colleagues.
Speaking to Ocean FM news Deputy Kenny says how the recent increased budget allocation for defence is spent will determine if more people will sign up for a career in these areas.
