With experience in church-based, electoral, and community organizing, she has worked with America Votes, State Voices, and ACORN. Since founding Mothering Justice in 2012, the group has trained 1,000+ women, engaged 500,000 mothers, and led significant policy changes in Michigan. Atkinson serves on various boards and was elected to Wayne State University's Board of Governors in 2022. She lives in Royal Oak with her husband and six children.
