Description

JUNG im Gespräch mit Sam Chermayeff
In 1963, the book "Community and Privacy: Toward a New Architecture of Humanism" edited by Serge Chermayeff and Christopher Alexander, was published. In their detailed analysis, they propose a new kind of urban order, structured to provide clearly delineated areas in which different human needs – in hierarchies ranging from public urban life to individual solitude – can be met without interference or conflict with other activities. These are intended to create a rational order of physical relationships based on human qualities.
It's a coincidence that 61 years after the book's publication, we meet the publisher's grandson, Sam Chermayeff, in our podcast today to once again talk about community and privacy. Sam Chermayeff is also an architect, designer and educator and is particularly interested in how we can renegotiate private spaces to make our lives more open.
