Can UConn Tech Park Transform Connecticut into a Semiconductor Powerhouse?
Description
UConn Tech Park in Connecticut formed a partnership with Tescan Group to accelerate semiconductor research, manufacturing, and workforce development. Tescan acquired FemtoInnovations, a UConn-based startup, to establish a Laser Technology Business Unit and the FLAME Center for advanced laser and nanomachining research. The collaboration introduces on-site manufacturing at the Tech Park, provides students with research opportunities, and expands access to high-tech equipment. The Innovation Partnership Building, supported by $175 million in state investment, has attracted over $450 million in additional funding. Tescan will integrate its new unit with existing business lines and support UConn Ph.D. students, while FemtoInnovations’ laser technology will be used in multiple industries.
