Cattle Futures Dip, Export Sales Down, December Report Anticipated
Update: 2025-12-19
Description
Live cattle futures experienced a decline on Thursday, with prices dropping by one dollar and ninety cents. Cash trade started, with some early sales reaching two hundred twenty-eight dollars. However, an online auction for fed cattle had no sales despite bids ranging from two hundred twenty-five to two hundred twenty-six dollars and fifty cents. Feeder cattle futures also closed lower, with the CME feeder cattle index slightly increasing to three hundred fifty dollars and five cents. Weekly export sales data showed a decrease in beef sales and export shipments. The upcoming December Cattle on Feed report is highly anticipated, with expectations of a decrease in November placements and marketings, and a lower number of cattle on feed. Wholesale boxed beef prices were mixed, with Choice boxes increasing and Select boxes decreasing. The estimated cattle slaughter for Thursday was one hundred twenty-three thousand head, bringing the weekly total to four hundred seventy-two thousand head, which is twelve thousand head below last week.
