Lean hog futures surged on Thursday, with prices climbing between ninety-five cents and one dollar and twelve cents. However, the national base hog price dipped by one dollar and six cents. The CME Lean Hog Index showed a slight increase of fifty-seven cents. Pork export sales were strong, but actual shipments were at a nine-week low. Coffee and cocoa prices have been falling due to favorable weather conditions in major producing regions. The USDAs pork carcass cutout value decreased, with only loin and rib sections seeing price increases. February twenty-six hog futures closed up one dollar and twelve and a half cents, with April and May twenty-six hogs also gaining.
