Live cattle futures saw modest gains in October, with October contracts up nearly four dollars and cash trade prices hitting two hundred thirty dollars in the north. Feeder cattle futures slipped, but the CME Feeder Cattle Index dropped by four dollars and sixty-two cents. Boxed beef prices showed a mixed trend, with choice box prices dropping by over three dollars. Cattle slaughter increased, but was still below last year's levels. Producers and buyers are watching prices and production numbers closely as we head into November.
