Description

A 59-year-old man died in a pedestrian-vehicle collision while crossing Colorado Highway 9 near the area of Gold Hill trailhead the night of Tuesday, Aug. 19, and the Summit County Coroner has released his cause and manner of death.

Timothy Sheffield was from Colorado Springs, according to the Colorado State Patrol. His cause of death was multiple blunt force injuries, and the manner of his death was an accident, according to his autopsy report.

Sheffield’s autopsy found alcohol in his postmortem blood, with a blood alcohol content of 0.3%.

A Ford Mustang driven by a 35-year-old man from Black Hawk hit Sheffield.

Colorado State Patrol Trooper Sherri Mendez said the vehicle was traveling northbound in the right lane when the collision occurred. State Patrol’s preliminary investigation showed the driver braked before impact, Sheffield crossed in front of the vehicle and that Sheffield was at fault.

State Patrol did not immediately respond to a request for documents related to its investigation of the incident.
